The rapid evolution of artificial intelligence technologies, with the corresponding impact on human well-being, calls for an increase in ethical awareness to influence the computer science students who will be creating the future. Interdisciplinary teams of scholars are attempting to build frameworks for explaining appropriate ethical considerations for responsible computing. Although professional computing codes of ethics are intended for managing ethical dilemmas in computing, there are no single fixed solutions to all possible challenges which computer scientists face in their professional work. The use of narratives is one way to engage computer science (CS) students as they explore the ethical implications of their work and critically examine the implications of decisions that are made as part of professional practice. This experience report shares the story of a team of faculty (Computer Science and applied Philosophy) working to integrate computing ethics into their undergraduate CS programs in different instructional contexts;a liberal arts college in the USA and a technology and research university in Nigeria. This collaborative work in progress shares examples of modules and assessments refined over time based on evolving student interests and curriculum needs that are responsive to rapid advances in computing technologies. Contributions of this report include: 1) documentation of the origins of this interdisciplinary partnership, 2) a rationale for a narrative-based approach for fostering responsible computing principles and practices, and 3) preliminary data the impact of this approach within international computing environments.

The application of mastery learning, where students progress through their learning in a self-paced manner until they have mastered specific concepts, is considered appealing for teaching introductory programming courses. Despite its growing popularity in computing and its extensive use in other disciplines, there is no overview of the design of courses that use mastery learning. In this position paper, we present an overview of five mastery learning models and discuss examples of how these can be applied in practice, both in foundational programming as well as more advanced courses. Our analysis focuses on the student progression through the course, the assessment structure, and the support for self-paced learning, including for struggling students. This work provides a greater understanding of mastery learning and its application in a computing education context.

Research exploring the connection between students' learning and their psychological factors (e.g., emotions, attitudes, and beliefs) is often grounded in models and theories from literature related to psychology and learning sciences. These theories provide insights into how psychological factors influence students' learning, motivation, and academic performance. To deepen our understanding of the interplay between these factors and students' learning and performance, this paper provides findings from a systematic literature review (SLR) of research studies about theories and methods used to understand the emotions and self-efficacy of undergraduate computing and engineering students. We examined thirty studies published between 2005 and 2023 in top-tier academic venues for computing and engineering education research. These studies leverage diverse methodologies, including validated surveys, physiological data, and grounded theory approaches, to explore the nuances of students' emotions and self-efficacy in computing and engineering education. We discuss how these factors are defined in the literature, the methods applied to measure and analyze them, and the implications for future research and educational practice. This SLR could assist computing and engineering education researchers in designing rigorous research studies focused on exploring these factors in students' learning. Furthermore, this may provide educators with a reference for devising effective teaching strategies to improve students' perceptions of computing, thereby enhancing their academic achievement.
