Robust small infrared target detection has becoming increasingly important in security and defense applications. Current detection methods can be divided into two *** performance of the model-driven methods is limited by the prior assumption parameters, while data-driven methods perform poor in semantic feature extraction due to the lack of the shape characteristic. In this paper, we proposed to embed a model-driven module into a convolution network, which has clear advantages on detection performance and running time. Our method consists of a backbone based on dilated convolution, a multi-scale local intensity and gradient module, and a segmentation head. Experimental results using extended SIRST dataset demonstrated that the proposed method achieves a good balance between the detection performance and running time. © 2023 SPIE.

To enhance the measurement accuracy and robustness of 3D reconstruction systems for obtaining precise shape and position information of object surfaces, including resistance to texture interference, we propose an anti-interference structured light measurement system based on scene surface. This system addresses limitations in stripe-encoded structured light 3D measurement, such as abrupt surface reflectance changes and camera defocusing, while investigating methods for phase retrieval and surface reflectance-based phase compensation. By adjusting the projection modulation intensity of the projector, we control the intensity of the reflected light on the measurement surface, reducing the sensitivity of the camera defocusing blur coefficient to texture variations. We propose an adaptive modulation intensity adjustment method to minimize phase errors between neighboring pixels, enabling high-precision phase retrieval. Experimental results demonstrate that in simulated experiments, the root mean square errors before and after anti-interference processing are 0.2124 rad and 0.0371 rad, respectively. In real-world scenarios, the errors of different measured surfaces decrease by approximately 60%. Comparative experiments validate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method, indicating a significant improvement in measurement accuracy. The method enhances the performance of the coded structured light in applications such as industrial measurement and precise sorting, exhibiting high robustness, accuracy, and anti-interference capabilities. © 2023 SPIE.

To address the problems such as poor real-time performance, difficulty in supervision, and low accuracy in the production process of industrial electronic equipment, an industrial production line simulation platform based on digital twin is proposed in this paper. It studies the timeliness problem of transforming the physical space into the virtual space. It uses a 2D simulation algorithm based on matrix transformation to construct online simulation quickly, configuration and other production monitoring and large screen visualization scenarios of automated production workshop, so as to improve production efficiency. At present, the simulation platform has been applied in the industrial production lines of the instrument and meter industry with good performance. © 2024 SPIE.

Fourier ptychographic microscopy technique combines the concept of phase retrieval algorithm and synthetic aperture, which can solve the problem that large field of view and high resolution cannot coexist. However, describing the linear transfer process of the imaging system by coherent transfer function in conventional calculations leads to ringing artifacts. Gaussian apodization coherent transfer function constraints is proposed and embedded into the software platform, and a high-resolution Fourier ptychographic microscopy imaging system is constructed together with the designed hardware. The proposed algorithm can reduce the ringing artifacts and ensure the accuracy and resolution of the reconstructed results by simulating experiments and acquiring real images. © 2023 SPIE.

Many real-time cognitive sensing signal processing and control applications require low SWAP edge processors with ultra-low latency adaptation and learning capabilities along with strict throughput, accuracy and power requirements. Achieving 3rd generation AI capabilities, i.e., real-time contextual adaptation, requires fast adaptive inference operations at low power beyond what is achievable with currently available neural networks and deep learning systems. While there has been tremendous progress in the form of edge accelerators, today's processors lack capabilities for real-time processing, adaptation to novel situations, and low latency decision making. This paper addresses currently unsolved critical challenges in real-time cognitive sensing and autonomous system control applications, such as ultra-wide bandwidth and real-time signal denoising, anomaly detection, blind signal separation, and adaptive system equalization and control. We also present experimental results for low Cost-Size Weight and Power (C-SWAP) hardware implementation of an edge processor prototype implemented on a commercially available FPGA board. © 2021 SPIE.

This paper talks about the challenges involved in building an in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI), the need for one and the advantages of choosing the CAN protocol for the proposed in-vehicle infotainment system. For a formula-style electric car, the main objective of the designed infotainment system is to read various real-time data from different sensors present in the car and providing such information to the driver. This information is also logged and can be viewed by the team to assess the safety and performance of the various components of the car and the car as a whole. The paper further describes the main features of the System on Module (SoM) chosen for this system, the motivation behind utilizing the CAN protocol for intra-vehicular communication, and the advantages of choosing CAN. In addition, the design of the interface using the Qt framework and other elements involved in the design of the system are also discussed. The system has also been tested and validated in both workshop conditions and on track and has proven to be a robust real-time system. The applications of such a system in making crucial data of the vehicle’s dynamics available to the driver and the crew are explored. Also, some light is shed upon how valuable it is to have such a system installed in a student-built formula-style electric car. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

In the real-world ubiquitous computing systems, it is difficult to require a significant amount of data to obtain accurate information through pure data-driven methods. The performance of data-driven methods relies on the quantity and 'quality' of data. They perform well when a sufficient amount of data is available, which is regarded as ideal conditions. However, in real-world systems, collecting data can be costly or impossible due to practical limitations. On the other hand, it is promising to utilize physical knowledge to alleviate these issues of data limitation. The physical knowledge includes domain knowledge from experts, heuristics from experiences, analytic models of the physical phenomena and etc. The goal of the workshop is to explore the intersection between (and the combination of) data and physical knowledge. The workshop aims to bring together domain experts that explore the physical understanding of the data, practitioners that develop systems and the researchers in traditional data-driven domains. The workshop welcomes papers, which focuses on addressing these issues in different applications/domains as well as algorithmic and systematic approaches to applying physical knowledge. Therefore, we further seek to develop a community that systematically analyzes the data quality regarding inference and evaluates the improvements from physical knowledge. Preliminary and on-going work is welcomed.

Today's fast-moving world sees an abundance of image data in everyday life. From messages to insurance claims to even judicial systems, image data plays a pivotal role in facilitating several critical Big Data applications. Some of these applications such as automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) use CCTV cameras to capture snapshots of traffic from real-time video, inadvertently resulting in the generation vast amounts of image data on a daily basis. This brings with it the herculean task of processing these images to extract the essential information as efficiently as possible. The conventional method of processing images in a sequential manner can be very time consuming on account of the vast multitude of images and the intensive computation involved in order to process these. Distributed image processing seeks to provide a solution to this problem by splitting the computations involved across multiple nodes. This paper presents a novel framework to implement distributed image processing via OpenCV on HPCC systems distributed node architecture, a set of high-performance computing clusters. The proposed approach when tested on the Indian License Plates Dataset was found to be 85 percent accurate. Additionally, a 30 percent decrease in computation time was observed when executed on a multi-node setup without any impact to accuracy. © 2020 Association for computing Machinery.

The design of complex systems on FPGAs can be challenging because of the semantic gap between development of high-performance IP blocks on programmable hardware and the construction of software for general purpose processors. We aim at closing this gap between software- and programmable hardware development. To deliver maximal flexibility and performance while simplifying the design process, we propose a unification of the dissimilar blocks of such hybrid systems. Targeting hybrid CPU-FPGA architectures in this manuscript we provide high-level support for combining and connecting high-performance IP blocks with soft-core processors and prefabricated systems-on-Chip. Hardware structure and software design are both defined in a unified programming environment. A tool-chain automatically integrates soft-core code compilation, standardized connection of the involved components and custom embedded runtime support, minimizing the number of steps for system development. An important design objective is the simple extensibility for the definition of new IP blocks and the integration of new target hardware. In case studies with various challenges from the medical computing domain, ranging from real-time multi-core medical monitoring to high-performance signal processing, the practical value of our approach in creating high-performance embedded systems is demonstrated. © VDE VERLAG GMBH · Berlin · Offenbach
