The rise of the Internet of Things to promote the development of technology development board, the processor speed of operation and memory capacity increases, more and more applications, can already be completed before the data on the board computing, combined with the network to sort the information after Sent to the cloud for processing, so that the front of the development board is no longer simply retrieve the data device. This study uses Asus Tinker Board to install OpenCV for real-time face recognition and capture of the face, the acquired face to the Microsoft Cognitive Service cloud database for artificial intelligence comparison, to find out what the face now represents the mood. The face of the corresponding person name, and finally, and then through the text of Speech to read the name of the name to complete the identification of the action. This study was developed using the Asus Tinker Board, which uses ARM-based CPUs with high efficiency and low power consumption, plus improvements in memory and hardware performance for the development board.

The article considers the problems of optimization of the load on communication channel, created by the traffic of a medical nanonetworks application. Previously developed operating modes were analyzed and evaluated, new protocol was suggested. This protocol allows to optimize the load on communication channel. Also simulation of traffic was carried out, result of simulation allows to evaluate the advantages of the developed protocol. © 2017, Springer international Publishing AG.

The rapidly emerging Internet of Things supports many diverse applications including environmental monitoring. Air quality, both indoors and outdoors, proved to be a significant comfort and health factor for people. This paper proposes a smart context-aware system for indoor air quality monitoring and prediction called DisCPAQ. The system uses data streams from air quality measurement sensors to provide real-time personalised air quality service to users through a mobile app. The proposed system is agnostic to sensor infrastructure. The paper proposes a context model based on Context Spaces Theory, presents the architecture of the system and identifies challenges in developing large scale IoT applications. DisCPAQ implementation, evaluation and lessons learned are all discussed in the paper. © 2017, Springer international Publishing AG.

Due to large distances between surveillance cameras and subjects, the captured images usually have low resolution in addition to uncontrolled poses and illumination conditions that adversely affect the performance of face recognition algorithms. In this paper, we present a low-resolution face recognition technique based on Discriminant Correlation Analysis (DCA). DCA analyzes the correlation of the features in high-resolution and low-resolution images and aims to find projections that maximize the pair-wise correlations between the two feature sets and at the same time, separate the classes within each set. This makes it possible to project the features extracted from high-resolution and low-resolution images into a common space, in which we can apply matching. The proposed method is computationally efficient and can be applied to challenging real-time applications such as recognition of several faces appearing in a crowded frame of a surveillance video. Extensive experiments performed on low-resolution surveillance images from the SCface database as well as FRGC database demonstrated the efficacy of our proposed approach in the recognition of low-resolution face images, which outperformed other state-of-the-art techniques. © 2017 IEEE.

The complexity of optics manufacturing is not only due to the demanding geometrical features of single surfaces, it increases significantly when several surfaces need to be aligned in the correct position within a multi element optical system. Even slight imperfections of this alignment process in the range of a few microns can lead to a substantially reduced quality of the overall system. The functional orientated wavefront based alignment approach offers an elegant solution to this challenge. Compared to conventional alignment methods it has the potential to reach very high accuracies in the sub-μm-range with an excellent efficiency. A consecutive stepping through the system is not necessary, since after the measurement of the optical performance of the system the correction of all possible degrees of freedom will be calculated at the same time. In order to transfer this potential into real applications two major challenges related to the available measurement devices have to be met. The first one is the repeatability of the wavefront measurement. Tiny errors in the position lead to also quite small changes in the wavefront properties which need to be detected reliable. The other aspect concerns the limited sensor area of real measurement devices. Depending on the magnitude of the perturbation in the different degrees of freedom the lateral displacement of the resulting spot is generally a lot larger the sensor area available. Therefore, this publication will initially introduce to the capabilities of the wavefront based alignment approach, illustrating the performance and accuracies as well as some of the parameters decisive to the procedure. Furthermore this paper will elaborate on the mentioned challenges in the transfer of these results to real applications. © 2016 SPIE.

The recently introduced Intel Haswell processors implement major changes compared to their predecessors, especially with respect to power management. Haswell processors are used in the new-generation DOE NNSA tri-lab supercomputer, Trinity, hosted at Los Alamos National Laboratory. In this paper we measure and analyze a number of power-based parameter of Haswell that are of great importance for the energy consumption of applications. We study three HPC benchmarks, HPL, STREAM, FIRESTARTER and a hydrodynamics application, CLAMR. They are representative of workloads stressing different components of computers. Our experimental results show that real-time on-board power monitoring causes substantial power use if no optimization is performed;adapting P-states provides a cost-effective way to improve the power-performance of applications;enabling hyperthreading can significantly save energy by up to 96.3% for compute-bound applications;HPC applications should employ differentiated core affinity strategies in order to achieve the maximum power-performance. Moreover, we study the imbalance of sockets on a server in their power and energy use, and then propose approaches to mitigate such imbalance.

The term "Crossing the Chasm", coined by Geoffrey A. Moore [1], states that there is a significant time gap in high-tech marketing between the phase of early adopters and visionaries using new products and the early majority. With the latest success of wearable devices or the marketing of such devices, we seem to cross the chasm in wearable technology in general. One of the ideal pictures, we painted over the last years, is the use of Augmented reality-based wearable computing systems overlaying our view of the real world with useful information. Such systems, though, are only about to become commodities or actual tools and many research results presented at previous ISWC conferences have yet to be implemented and industrialized. Augmented reality (AR) is a successful application area of Wearable computing, especially for professional, industrial settings, in which mobility is an important factor. With the proliferation of mobile technology in the workplace, wearable computing research can offer a valuable contribution to the usability of mobile solutions, such as the use of context information to inform devices and services of the current task and user situation, relieve professionals of tedious and repetitive information entry tasks and increase worker safety in complex and hazardous environments. Wearable AR systems in general are widely utilized in various domains, including architecture, military, tourism, navigation, and entertainment. Such diverse usages impose several challenges on researchers from both areas of Augmented reality and Wearable computing, such as interaction, activity and context recognition, wearability, design, and modeling. With the prevalence of graph data in real-world applications (e.g., social networks, mobile phone networks, web graphs, etc.) and their ever-increasing size, many distributed graph computing systems have been developed in recent years to process and analyze massive graphs. Most of these systems adopt Pregel's vertex-centric computing model, while various techniques have been proposed to address the limitations in the Pregel framework. However, there is a lack of comprehensive comparative analysis to evaluate the performance of various systems and their techniques, making it difficult for users to choose the best system for their applications. We conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the performance of existing systems on graphs with different characteristics and on algorithms with different design logic. We also study the effectiveness of various techniques adopted in existing systems, and the scalability of the systems. The results of our study reveal the strengths and limitations of existing systems, and provide valuable insights for users, researchers and system developers. © 2014 VLDB Endowment 21508097/14/11.
