In large projects parallelization of existing programs or refactoring of source code is time consuming as well as error-prone and would benefit from tool support. However, existing automatic transformation systems are not extensively used because they either require tedious definitions of source code transformations or they lack general adaptability. In our approach, a programmer changes code inside a project, resulting in before and after source code versions. The difference (the generated transformation) is stored in a database. When presented with some arbitrary code, our tool mines the database to determine which of the generalized transformations possibly apply. Our system is different from a pure compiler based (semantics preserving) approach as we only suggest code modifications. Our contribution is a set of generalizing annotations that we have found by analyzing recurring patterns in open source projects. We show the usability of our system and the annotations by finding matches and applying generated transformations in real-world applications. © 2012 IEEE.

Recent advances in wireless communication, miniaturization of spatially enabled devices and global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) services have resulted in a large number of novel application domains. applications in these novel domains (moving objects tracking, sensor networks, fleet management, real-time intelligent transportation systems, etc.) process huge volume of continuous streaming data, i.e. data that is produced incrementally over time, rather than being available in full before processing. Data stream management systems (DSMS) have been developed to manage continuous data streams. Usually based on relational paradigm, they have rudimentary support for spatial data. Recent research efforts in data stream management systems focus mainly on processing continuous queries over traditional data streams, and only a few papers addressed spatio-temporal continuous queries. In this paper we present OCEANUS, an ongoing effort to extend TelegraphCQ DSMS with spatial support providing a platform for spatio-temporal streaming applications. © 2012 ACM.

The World Wide Web has naturally been evolving towards processing extra-large data volumes, such as collected by Linked Life Data or Open PHACTS repositories, capable of hosting billions of information entities (e.g., rdF triples used in Semantic Web) and beyond. In view of the explosive data growth along with excessive QoS requirements on scalability and processing time constraints, the Web is expected to dominate the data-centric computing already in the next decade. On the other hand, most of the current HPC infrastructures, both academic and industrial, do not support parallel Web applications, e.g., developed in the Hadoop framework, due to their service-oriented implementation in the Java programming language, which is (and will surely remain) prevalent for the Web programming. As a reaction to novel challenges of promoting data-centric supercomputing to the Web, we present a solution that introduces the Message Passing Interface (MPI) bindings to Java, seamlessly integrated in one of the most popular current MPI implementations - Open MPI. Our implementation enables Javabased Semantic Web applications to be successfully ported to the most of modern HPC systems. We also discuss the design features of Open MPI that enable the proliferation of MPI into Java applications. Finally, we present a pilot Semantic Statistics scenario implemented with MPI, Random Indexing, and discuss future work in terms of promising Semantic Web applications, such as Reasoning. The dramatic growth of the amount of information that is made available through computer systems and the increasing need to access relevant information anywhere at any time are more and more overwhelming the cognitive capacity of human users. Instead of providing the right information at the right time, current computer systems are geared towards providing all information at any time. For many future applications, the integration of embedded systems from multiple smart spaces is a primary key to provide a truly seamless user experience. The project PECES has worked during the last two years to offer the technological basis to enable the global cooperation of embedded devices residing in different smart spaces in a context-dependent, secure, and trustworthy manner. The main output of this paper relies on the set of tools developed to create PECES based applications in an easy and understandable way for developers.

By adding a subsystem that provides continuous network service to a host system such as a PC (Personal Computer), even while the host system is sleeping, it is possible to achieve efficient use of the system and energy reduction. Remote management is a typical example. Recently, to maintain network service anytime and anywhere, WWAN (Wireless Wide Area Network) technology such as 3G (3rd generation mobile telecommunications) has been employed. The design of the subsystem should be independent of the network device in terms of development cost because once modifications are made, they are dependent on a network device;this would lead to extra work being required to use the new network devices and retain the modification. Furthermore, modification to the logic or firmw are of a wireless network device may make re-certification necessary owing to rules and regulations for radio devices. Therefore, realization of a method that does not require any modification to wireless network devices, network drivers, and connection software is considered ideal;however, it has not been achieved thus far. In this paper, we propose a unique architecture for a subsystem that overcomes this design issue by introducing two elements to achieve host unaware network service: pseudo-response and bridge functionality for communicating through the subsystem. In general, a highly independent design contributes to processing overhead and tends to degrade performance. Hence, we prototype the subsystem on an ARM7 board and evaluate it using actual 3G network and cloud services. The results show that the proposed technique works transparently, even when the host system uses the network, and the required CPU (Central Processing Unit) frequency is more than 70 MHz. Furthermore, it is confirmed that power reduction of around 60% can be achieved while downloading.

Exascale computers will enable the unraveling of significant scientific mysteries. Predictions are that 2019 will be the year of exascale, with millions of compute nodes and billions of threads of execution. The current architecture of high-end computing systems is decades-old and has persisted as we scaled from gigascales to petascales. In this architecture, storage is completely segregated from the compute resources and are connected via a network interconnect. This approach will not scale several orders of magnitude in terms of concurrency and throughput, and will thus prevent the move from petascale to exascale. At exascale, basic functionality at high concurrency levels will suffer poor performance, and combined with system mean-time-to-failure in hours, will lead to a performance collapse for large-scale heroic applications. Storage has the potential to be the Achilles heel of exascale systems. We propose that future high-end computing systems be designed with non-volatile memory on every compute node, allowing every compute node to actively participate in the metadata and data management and leveraging many-core processors high bisection bandwidth in torus networks. This position paper discusses this revolutionary new distributed storage architecture that will make exascale computing more tractable, touching virtually all disciplines in high-end computing and fueling scientific discovery. © 2011 ACM.

In the peer-to-peer based video-on-demand systems, when the number of users online reaches a certain scale, It will greatly influence the bandwidth and the speed of response server when the number of online users reaches a certain scale. At the same time, there are so many video resources and sometimes the base number of users can not fully meet the number of P2P users that a lot of video resources need to be dealt with by the server, and increase the load on the server, bring the buffer phenomenon as well. To solve this problem, the article refereed to the idea "cloud computing" to design a kind of cross-platform cache server group based on Hadoop synchronization operation storage and solved the problem that store temporary files using cache server. Compared the simulation results with the traditional method of using load balancing and multiple buffer servers we found that the performance of Hadoop framework was improved significantly in feasibility and efficiency when dealing with large data. Finally the prospects of application of cloud computing in VoD/P2P were prospected. © 2011 IEEE.
