The computational fluid dynamics (CFD) grid application platform provides a grid environment for CFD applications using high performance computing. It adopts service oriented architecture (SOA), is based on IBM's Service Domain, extends and customizes it for CFD applications in several modules, such as service requesting, job scheduling, job management, failure recovery, etc. By defining general CFD application interfaces such as data format, the platform integrates different CFD applications, including mesh generation, domain decomposition and resolvers, to follow the workflow customized by end-users to finish a complete CFD job. Furthermore, CFD application development specifications and packages are provided to facilitate migrating most sequential and parallel CFD applications to the platform. Currently, a prototype system is available online to the public for testing.

computing potential is wasted and idle not only when applications are executed, but also when a user navigates by Internet. To take advantage of this, an architecture named Parasite has been designed in order to use distributed and networked resources, without disturbing local computation. This is the working principle of certain global computing projects, but our development introduces new ideas with respect to user intervention, the distributed programming paradigm or the resident software on each user's computer. The project is based on developing software technologies and infrastructures in order to facilitate Web-based distributed computing. This paper outlines the most recent advances in the project, as well as discussing the architecture developed and an experimental framework that would validate this infrastructure.

The unparalleled growth in the areas of microprocessor development, transmission media and computing models has given rise to a totally new environment in computing technology. The evolution of computing models, combined with the advances of the enabling technologies, gave way to the client/server perspective of computing. The origin and economics of the client/server model are depicted within the context of this paper. A general overview of client/server architecture is also included to provide a comfort level with the concept itself.

Procedural languages like C and FORTRAN have historically been the languages of choice for implementing programs for high performance parallel computers. The inherent difficulties in writing efficient parallel codes with a procedural programming model are a motivation for pursing alternatives such as high-level parallel programming languages. SequenceL is a high-level parallel language that provides declarative constructs for non-scalar processing. Rather than specifying program control structures that, in turn, imply a data product, the problem solver specifies a data product and the control structures to produce or process the data product are implied, including the parallelisms. This paper focuses on the recent advances in the development of SequenceL as a parallel programming language.

Wireless technology provides the service of being connected, while on move. As computer and wireless communication technology advances, handheld devices are entering in the arena of mobile computing. It can be seen that small wireless devices like PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) will dominate the mobile computing environment in future world However, because of lack of resources and high mobility, PDAs need integrated fault-tolerant mechanisms to ensure their computational progress. In this paper, we present our classification of faults, experienced by mobile devices and then we present our architectural framework to provide availability for applications running on mobile devices. Our approach takes into account the nature of application and provides suitable fault tolerance mechanism as per the requirements of every application.

Recent advances in both portable devices and wireless networks make mobile computing a reality. Embedded and invisible computing resources are paving the way to a new paradigm known as pervasive computing. More attention needs to be paid to the development of intelligent services in such a highly dynamic environment. This paper aims to present a conceptual model for context awareness based service adaptation methodology. We describe context in context space and represent it with 4-tuple. We then discuss context awareness in terms of both context organization and utilization. Finally, we introduce the notion of adaptation and present the framework for context-aware adaptive services.

A high performance, freely accessible medical image processing environment based on a distributed architecture is presented: MedIGrid is the result of a joined interaction between scientists devoted to the design and deployment of new and efficient tomographic reconstruction techniques, researchers in the field of distributed and parallel architectures, and physicians interested in experimenting with new advances in the field of image reconstruction and analysis. The main goal of the project was to design an easily accessible and usable environment with which the medical community can experiment on one side, and that research groups can use as a reference or as a basis for continuing research on the other side. The outcome of this work consists of a prototypal grid infrastructure along with an open and distributed software environment. The Grid computing architecture includes a storage server, a high performance parallel computing unit, and two PCs that act as clients to the system and that are located in geographically distant areas. The Globus Toolkit has been chosen to implement the middleware between hardware and software. The latter consists of a set of tools and strategies to reconstruct, display, analyze as well as store, share, distribute and organize medical images, addressing the major problems in the field of image reconstruction and processing. It is platform independent, remotely executable, freely downloadable and accessible, and based on open source code.
