A 3D design methodology based on voxel-graphics was applied to multi- component engineering systems. Using this methodology a java-based graphics user interface (GUI) was developed to setup and control the simulations on a remote Beowulf cluster. In addition to a general geometric design the GUI is capable to preform simulation setup, execution, monitoring, data sampling and visualization all through a secure link from a web-browser. This approach was applied to the simulation of fuel cell stacks on Beowulf clusters. The integrated methodology based on java technology and voxel-graphics can also be used in modeling of physical processes and for visualization of scientific data.

A java based discrete event Grid simulator toolkit called HuskySim, developed at University of Connecticut, was discussed. The HuskSim toolkit provides core functionalities that can be used to simulate a distributed computing environment. It can be used to predict the performance of various classes of Grid scheduling algorithms including static scheduling algorithms, dynamic scheduling and adaptive scheduling. The simulator allows fast comparisons of Grid scheduling algorithms in realistic conditions. An object-oriented design, which allows an easy mapping and integration of simulation objects into the simulation program, was considered.
Most network simulators are stand-alone, monolithic applications that are unsuitable for modeling distributed systems. VNET is a distributed system environment that enables simulation of wired and wireless networks by...

Proportional delay differentiation (PDD) model is an important approach for relative differentiated services provisioning on the Internet. It aims to maintain pre-specified packet queueing-delay ratios between different classes of traffic at each hop. Existing PDD packet scheduling algorithms are able to achieve the goal in long time-scales when the system is highly utilized. This paper presents a new PDD scheduling algorithm, called Little's average delay (LAD), based on a proof of Little's Law. It monitors the arrival rate and the cumulative delays of the packets from each traffic class, and schedules the packets according to their transient queueing properties so as to achieve the desired class delay ratios in both short and long time-scales. simulation results show that, in comparison with other PDD scheduling algorithms, LAD can provide no worse level of service quality in long time-scales and more accurate and robust control over the delay ratio in short time-scales. In particular, LAD outperforms its main competitors significantly when the desired delay ratio is large.

Easy javasimulations, Ejs, is a software authoring tool that helps create scientific simulations in java. We show in this paper a sequence of sample simulations that endorse the claim that is the starting point of Ejs: creating simulations of scientific phenomena can be a challenging yet attainable task, suitable for science and engineering students. We'll also try to show the pedagogical attractive that creating simulations can have, as long as we let the students engage in model description and not get distracted by computer specific issues, which are of course needed in order to create a modern simulation, but that Ejs automatically takes care of.
