A numerical simulation for body surface potential mapping was investigated using boundary element method (BEM). After forward simulation, we investigated the accuracy and stability of ECG inverse solution from the viewpoint of minimum description length principle (MDL). It became obvious that the solution containing up to 16th expansion components is optimal for ECG inverse problem.

The task scheduling policy and the processor allocation scheme affect the system performance significantly. In this paper, we propose an efficient processor allocation scheme for 3D mesh interconnection network with a simple FIFO scheduling policy. Complexity analysis shows that the allocation and deallocation of the scheme are O(LWH/sup 2/) and O(LH), respectively, which are better than earlier schemes. Comprehensive computer simulation shows that the average allocation time of the proposed scheme is improved up to about 85% compared to the best earlier 3D approach.

A new generic simulation approach is presented in order to analyze digitally-controlled switching mode power converters. The computer-aided simulation procedure proposed here is based on a circuit equation modeled by time varying resistors taking place of the active switches and diodes, a state equation for the inductors and the capacitors, and an algebraic computation method to transform the matrices of the circuit equation into the matrices of the state equation. The feasible estimation method of the calculation time step in the numerical integration to solve the state equation is also discussed with its eigenvalues.

Three-rule fuzzy PID controllers are developed which employ only a single input variable to generate the fuzzy proportional action. The nonlinear mapping between the input and output of the fuzzy system is represented explicitly, and the control actions are defined in terms of the design parameters. Important properties of the nonlinear relationship are discussed to provide an analytical basis for the systematic design of the controllers. Numerical simulation is presented to show the performance of the proposed controllers.

The throughput of a multichannel slotted-ALOHA protocol in a short haul communication environment is analyzed for a simple exponential backoff retransmission scheme. For a particular system configuration, i.e. for a particular number of channels and number of stations, parameters may be chosen to have the system normalized throughput almost the same as that of single channel slotted ALOHA. Also the parameters of the protocol may be chosen to have stable system throughput performance over a large range of user numbers. The effect of different parameters on the system capacity are investigated. simulation results agree with the numerical results.

Markov chain is a convenient tool to analyze parallel systems for architects who are not experts of theoretical analysis. However, it is sometimes difficult to use especially when the model becomes complicated or extremely small probabilities are used in the model. In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable Markov chain simulation system and evaluate on a reconfigurable testbed. In this system, a user describes the target system in a dedicated description language called "Taico". The description is automatically translated into the Verilog-HDL description, of the Markov chain simulator. Then, the simulator is implemented on a reconfigurable testbed called FLEMING, and executed directly. From the evaluation with analysis of example parallel systems, it appears that the simulation speed of proposed system is more than hundreds times faster than software simulation on a high speed workstation.
