Urban mobility especially vehicular mobility is important for many real-world applications. A lot of work has been done based on data from mobile sensor networks and stationary sensor networks, where each of them has its only weakness in spatiotemporal coverage and penetration rates. In this paper, we aim to coordinate the strength of heterogeneous sensor networks to achieve mobility modeling. Specifically, we design a mobility prediction system called Mohen to predict the destination of all the vehicles after they leave the coverage of stationary sensors with (i) only small portion vehicles with mobile sensors (i.e., GPS devices);(ii) historical data from stationary sensors (i.e., toll stations). the key novelty of Mohen is that we utilize the complementary features from heterogeneous sensor networks that mobile sensor networks provide better spatiotemporal coverage whereas stationary sensor networks capture vehicles with high penetration rates. We implement and evaluate Mohen in Guangdong Province, China by two real-world datasets, an electric toll collection (ETC) data set of 2 million vehicles, and an insurance-based vehicular tracking system of 114 thousand vehicles and show the accuracy of 75%. © 2019 Authors.

the increasing availability of heterogeneous ambient sensing systems challenges the according information processing systems to analyse and compare a variety of different systems in a single scenario. For instance, localization of objects can be performed by image processing systems as well as by radio based localization. If such systems are utilized to localize the same objects, synergy of the outputs is important to enable comparable and meaningful analysis. this demo showcases the practical deployment and challenges of such an example system.

In natural hazard warning systems fast decision making is vital to avoid catastrophes. Decision making at the edge of a wireless sensor network promises fast response times but is limited by the availability of energy, data transfer speed, processing and memory constraints. In this work we present a realization of a wireless sensor network for hazard monitoring based on an array of event-triggered single-channel micro-seismic sensors with advanced signal processing and characterization capabilities based on a novel co-detection technique. On the one hand we leverage an ultra-low power, threshold-triggering circuit paired with on-demand digital signal acquisition capable of extracting relevant information exactly and efficiently at times when it matters most and consequentially not wasting precious resources when nothing can be observed. On the other hand we utilize machine-learning-based classification implemented on low-power, off-the-shelf microcontrollers to avoid false positive warnings and to actively identify humans in hazard zones. the sensors' response time and memory requirement is substantially improved by quantizing and pipelining the inference of a convolutional neural network. In this way, convolutional neural networks that would not run unmodified on a memory constrained device can be executed in real-time and at scale on low-power embedded devices. A field study with our system is running on the rockfall scarp of the Matterhorn Hornligrat at 3500m a.s.l. since 08/2018.

Privacy preservation is critical for control information dissemination in Platoon-based Vehicular Cyber-Physical systems (PVCPS). However, the vehicular communication is vulnerable to wireless eavesdropping attack and message modification, due to broadcast nature of radio channels. In this poster, we present a secret key generation testbed for PVCPS security, which is built based on off-the-shelf autonomous robotic vehicles and TelosB wireless transceivers. A cooperative secret key agreement (CoopKey) scheme is demonstrated for encrypting/decrypting the disseminated control messages. To unify the secret key generated by the vehicles, CoopKey explores received signal strength (RSS) measurements and channel estimation on the inter-node radio channel. In addition, a Python-based user interface is also implemented to show real-time bit mismatch rate of CoopKey.

embedded networked sensor systems are deeply coupled with the physical world, and the deployed systems are usually difficult to debug. therefore, it is especially important to thoroughly test and profile the systems before deploying to the real world. Traditional debugging methods are incompetent for detailed tracing on resource constrained devices due to their intrusiveness. this paper proposes a low-cost Hardware Assisted Tracing testBED (HATBED) to enable non-intrusive tracing and profiling for embedded networked sensor systems independent of operating systems and applications. We hope HATBED will foster research on comprehensive testing and profiling of embedded networked systems based on modern 32-bit architecture.

Body-worn inertial sensors has become a convenient tool for sensing and recognizing human activities. the work presented in this poster uses Nordic Semiconductor's thingy: 52 IoT sensor kit as the data collection device. We built a body area network with four thingy: 52 devices that collect data of the wearer. In this work, we focused only on periodic and continuous activities and experimented with walking and running.

Air pollution is a major cause of health problem in urban areas. Vehicles are the major sources of the current air pollution in urban cities. In this work, we proposed a pollution monitoring system for vehicles using IoTs. this system measures the real-time pollution generated by vehicles on road. this paper describes the design of the system for sensing the pollution using sensor, arduino, smart phone and mobile applications for displaying the personalize air pollution information for individual vehicle. We evaluate the proposed approach on real-data experiment and it shows some preliminary results.

Modern microcontrollers come with a selection of clock sources that have widely differing frequencies and power consumptions. For applications whose workloads vary over time, dynamically changing the clock can provide significant energy savings. the varying constraints of embedded hardware environments and the complex interactions of multiprogrammed systems makes this approach burdensome to do in application logic. Power Clocks orchestrates energy optimizing clock management in the kernel, obviating the need for application involvement while still achieving acceptable performance for typical workloads. this poster describes Power Clocks's design and presents preliminary results.

the proliferation of Internet of things (IoT) devices has led to the deployment of various types of sensors in the homes, offices, buildings, lawns, cities, and even in agricultural farms. Due to the diverse nature of IoT deployments and the likelihood of sensor failures in-the-wild, a key challenge in the design of IoT systems is ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and fidelity of sensor data. We present a system based on the Fall-curve primitive - a sensor's voltage response when the power is turned off - to characterize the sensor. A sensor's Fall-curve constitutes a unique signature using which it is possible to identify the sensor and also detect whether it is operating correctly or not. In this demo, we show Fall-curve in action to accurately detect and identify the sensors connected to an IoT device. Furthermore, we also show that Fall-curves can reliably detect various transient and permanent sensor faults in an IoT device.

Moving nodes in a Mobile Wireless sensor Network (MWSN) typically have two maintenance objectives: (i) extend the coverage of the network as long as possible to a target area, and (ii) extend the longevity of the network as much as possible. As nodes move and also route traffic in the network, their battery levels deplete differently for each node. Dead nodes lead to loss of connectivity and even to disengaging full parts of the network. Several reactive and rule-based approaches have been proposed to solve this issue by adapting redeployment to depleted nodes. However, in large networks a cooperative approach may increase performance by taking the evolution of node battery and traffic into account. In this paper, we present a hybrid agent-based architecture that addresses the problem of depleting nodes during the maintenance phase of a MWSN. Agents, each assigned to a node, collaborate and adapt their behaviour to their battery levels. the collaborative behavior is modeled through the willingness to interact abstraction, which defines when agents ask and give help to one another. thus, depleting nodes may ask to be replaced by healthier counterparts and move to areas with less traffic or to a collection point. At the lower level, negotiations trigger a reactive navigation behaviour based on Social Potential Fields (SPF). It is shown that the proposed method improves coverage and extends network longevity in an environment without obstacles as compared to SPF alone.
