In this paper, we present a real time remote triggered laboratory which has multi-set, multi-group of wireless sensor network experimental setup which is envisioned to provide a practical experience of designing and implementing wireless sensor networks' algorithms in both indoor and outdoor conditions. the architecture provides a remote code editing mechanism using deluge protocol that offers the user a flexible environment for the experimentation. Central and local authentication agents serve a two level security mechanism which makes the system robust to security threats. the lab is accessible for all the students in the world through internet and it will provide an intuitive web-based interface, where registered users can access the code and do code editing.

Time series forecasting aims at improving energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by reducing the amount of data traffic. One such technique has each node generate a model that predicts the sampled data. When the actual, sensed data deviates from the model, a new model is generated and transmitted to the sink. Reductions in application data traffic as high as two orders of magnitude can be achieved. However, our experience in applying such forecasting in a real world deployment shows that the actual lifetime improvement is significantly less due to networking overheads. the study reported here reveals that careful, coordinated network parameter tuning can leverage the reduced traffic of forecasting techniques to increase lifetime without compromising application performance.

Up-to-date information on urban air pollution, such as reliable pollution maps, is of great importance for health protection agencies to timely assess the air quality situation and provide advice to the general public. Ultrafine particles (UFPs) are widely spread in urban environments and believed to have severe impact on the human health. However, the lack of spatially resolved data hampers profound evaluation of these effects. In this work, we introduce one of the largest spatially resolved UFP data set available today, with over 25 million measurements to build high-resolution pollution maps for an urban area of 100 km2. the data is collected throughout more than one year using mobile sensor nodes, which are installed on top of public transport vehicles in the city of Zurich, Switzerland. We develop land-use regression models to create pollution maps with a high spatial resolution and study their temporal resolution limit.

Traditional low-power wireless protocols maintain distributed network state to cope with link dynamics. Modeling the protocol operation as a function of network state is difficult as the state is frequently updated in an uncoordinated fashion. Recent protocols use synchronous transmissions (ST): multiple nodes send simultaneously towards the same receiver, as opposed to pairwise link-based transmissions (LT). ST enable efficient multi-hop protocols with little network *** studied whether ST in Glossy enable simple yet accurate protocol modeling [10]. Based on extensive testbed experiments and statistical analyses, we found that: (i) unlike LT, packet receptions and losses with ST largely adhere to a sequence of independent and identically distributed (i.i.d.) Bernoulli trials; (ii) this property greatly simplifies accurately modeling ST-based protocols, as we demonstrated by obtaining model errors below 0.25% in energy for the Glossy-based Low-Power Wireless Bus (LWB).
