This paper presents a top-down mixed-signal modeling approach that relies on Simulink converted-C modeling. This modeling flow is divided into four fundamental operations: Build the behavioral model using Simulink. Generate the portable stand-alone C code using RTW. Use FLI to link the generated C code with HDL. Write HDL wrappers. The resulting discrete-time C-based HDL model can seamlessly integrate with the digital and mixed-signal simulation environments without any special requirements from the simulator. With this approach we can truly achieve chip level or system level mixed-signal verification and analog vector generation.

The use of behavioural modelling for operational amplifiers has been well known for many years and previous work has included modelling of specific fault conditions using a macro-model. In this paper, the models are implemented in a more abstract form using analogue Hardware Description Languages (HDLs), including MAST, taking advantage of the ability to control the behaviour of the model using high-level fault condition states. The implementation method allows a range of fault conditions to be integrated without switching to a completely new model. The various transistor faults are categorised, and used to characterise the behaviour of the HDL models. simulations compare the accuracy and speed of the transistor and behavioural level models under a set of representative fault conditions.

This paper describes the set of packages providing a standard for the declaration of the most frequently used constants and types required for multiple energy domain modeling. Use of these packages with their defined types, constants and attributes is intended to provide a mechanism for writing VHDL models (compliant with ieee Sid 1076.1-1999) that are portable and interoperable with other VHDL models adhering to this standard. The standard serves a broad class of applications including electronics, thermal, magnetic, optical, fluidic and mechanical systems. The work described is the culmination of efforts by groups with the same basic goals working over a period of over two years. During this time many individuals have made valuable contributions to the development of this standard from the academic, industrial and EDA communities. In this paper, rather than describe every aspect of the standard in detail (impractical in a short paper), we have highlighted the key elements of the proposed standard.

We present a general behavioralsimulation method for the approximate of lumped, pressure-driven, static and time-dependent solute and solvent transport in large microfluidic chips. The method is based on a one-dimensional discretization of the convection-diffusion equation that tracks solvent and solute transport using four dual-branch nodal quantities. A comparison of static and transient behavior of microfluidic dilution networks and a PCM signal generator indicates that the simulation results are in good agreement with the model simulations.

In this paper we present the Vienna Grid Environment, a service-oriented Grid infrastructure based on standard Web Services technologies. VGE automates the provision of HPC applications as Grid services for on-demand super-computing and simplifies the construction of client-side applications. As a key distinguishing feature, VGE supports a flexible QoS negotiation model which enables clients to negotiate dynamically, and on a case-by-case basis, QoS guarantees on execution time and price with potential service providers. The VGE service provision framework is currently utilized in the context of the EU Project GEMSS, which focuses on the provision of advanced medical simulation services by means of a Grid infrastructure.

A computational grid is a wide-area computing environment for cross-domain resource sharing and service integration. Resource management and load balancing are key concerns when implementing grid middleware and improving resource utilization. Grid resource management can be implemented as a multiagent system with resource advertisement and discovery capabilities if job requests from users are associated with explicit QoS requirements. In this work agent-based self-organization is proposed to perform complementary load balancing for batch jobs with no explicit execution deadlines. In particular, an ant-like self-organizing mechanism is introduced and proved to be powerful to achieve overall grid load balancing through a collection of very simple local interactions. A modeling and simulation environment is developed to enable performance of the ant algorithm to be investigated quantitatively. simulation results included in this work illustrate the impact of different performance optimization strategies on the overall system load balancing level, speed and efficiency.

The experience of implementing the Data Encryption Standard (DES) using high level VHDL and behavioral synthesis is described. It is shown that it is possible to describe an algorithm which is notoriously low-level such that it is both readable and synthesizable using behavioral modelling appropriate for behavioural synthesis. The paper also discusses typical design issues that arise when working at the behavioral level and shows that human insight is still necessary to achieve the best possible results. However, this insight is brought to bear at a high level - which is what humans are good at - whilst the synthesis system provides "decision support" and optimisation - which is what software and computers are good at.

We have developed a threaded parallel data streaming approach using Logistical Networking (LN) to transfer multi-terabyte simulation data from computers at NERSC to our local analysis/visualization cluster, as the simulation executes, with negligible overhead. Data transfer experiments show that this concurrent data transfer approach is more favorable compared with writing to local disk and later transferring this data to be post-processed. Our algorithms are network aware, and can stream data at up to 97Mbs on a 100Mbs link from CA to NJ during a live simulation, using less than 5% CPU overhead at NERSC. This method is the first step in setting up a pipeline for simulation workflow and data management.

During behavioral model verification, it is important to determine the stopping point for the current test strategy and for moving to a different test strategy. It has been shown that the location of the stopping point is highly dependent on the statistical model one should choose to describe the coverage behavior during the verification process. This paper presents a study on the coverage behavior of VHDL models. The resulting statistical behavior is compared to the statistical behavior used by some commonly used models for software reliability and shows the inappropriateness of applying the existing models for the behavior model verification.
