Modeling and simulation tools have been used for helping in the early stages of hardware/software systems design. The DEVS formalism is a technique that enables hierarchical description of discrete event models that can be used for this task. CD++Modeler is an application that permits defining DEVS models graphically. We present the design and main features of the application.

simulation provides the U.S. Navy Submarine Force with the opportunity to safely, efficiently, and economically train Sailors at all levels in most aspects of their profession, starting with individual skills as the fundamental building blocks and assembling progressively larger teams. The Navy has invested heavily in providing the correct level of simulation fidelity for each application. This paper introduces the submarine training system in place today with emphasis on the impact of simulation technology and the benefits it provides across the spectrum of submarine training.

A blackjack simulation was created in GPSS/H to provide both an introduction to the language and a simple domain in which to investigate and use the scientific method. Students were provided a basic play strategy and required to formulate an alternative, create a hypothesis, and implement the changes in the code necessary to test it. The results from the two strategies were used to provide data for statistical analyses and the generation of conclusions. This paper describes the presentation of this project and some of the results generated over the last few semesters.

This paper deals with the development of intelligent agents with respect to their process specifications. The development process can be handled and documented by the standard UML tool. UML activity diagrams were extended for our purposes - Agent Behaviour Diagram. Next, the behaviour reconfiguration principle is described in more detail. A learning mechanism of agents was specified thanks to mentioned reconfiguration principle. Our approach was implemented in the area of traffic simulation.

Proactive contact campaigns play a growing role in modern contact centers. Their traditional usage as a telemarketing tool now is widely extended to different types of service notifications. In this paper we describe the most common model of a proactive telephone contact campaign, suggest several methods of its pacing algorithm and present simulation results.

We introduce the simulation of a spiking neural terminal using the CD++ toolkit. Operation of the neuron spike sequences are split between two channels - one for initiating and another one for terminating spikes. The firing condition for the spiking neuron is reached when two rectangular responses, one for the initiating spike and another one for terminating spike, overlap in time domain. A Coupled model of the spiking neuron consists of two atomic models, the timer and the controller, which ensure detection of the spikes in time domain and reaction of the neuron.

Modelling and simulation with integrated parameter optimisation is a well established technique. This paper introduces an extended, simulation based optimisation method. Behind automatic parameter value variation the method is able to re-configure model structure during optimisation. This is achieved through a combination of optimisation, simulation and model management methods. Using this approach simulation is used to establish the performance of a current model structure and parameter value set and the optimiser searches for an optimal solution with repeated model structure and model parameter value changes assisted by the model management methods.
