We present a parallel logic simulation framework aiming at more then one simulation language, not only some special. After investigating a number of research issues in parallel logic simulation, we study these key techniques including general parallelization method, code portioning, and practical synchronization algorithm. Based on ArchSim (a system-level parallel simulation platform), the framework can run on heterogeneous computing environments. By using the framework, we parallelize two logic simulation languages: SystemC and Verilog. Then, we design a pipelined multi-stage benchmark to evaluate the framework. Encouraging test results indicate that speedup gradually approaches to the linear growth with the computation complexity or the number of stages increasing. Another SoC application shows that speedup of the parallel logic simulation framework is almost the same with the shared-memory scheme. To sum up, by using our framework, a logic simulation language is easily parallelized to gain an excellent speedup. © 2010 SCS.

Nowadays, the speed of high-speed train is very high and the control of high-speed train is mainly based on distributed control network. The most important mission of the control network is to implement the right control logic relationship among all components of the train. This paper proposes an approach to build a logic deduction agent based distributed parallel test platform for the hardware-in-the-loop high-speed train simulation system. The test platform can fully support automatic test which will greatly reduce the cost of testing and improve the quality of test. With the introduction of Logic Deduction Agent (LDA), the intelligence and test efficiency of the test platform are considerably increased. What's more, the parallel and distributed framework based on LDA contributes to the high executing efficiency and flexibility of the test platform. On the other hand, the test coverage can be well evaluated with the help of LDA. © 2010 SCS.

simulation has become a widely accepted technology for analyzing or planning systems in various domains. In production logistics, for instance, many companies use simulation to evaluate scenarios before actually the construction or modifications of the production hall or processes are performed in order to get insights about the performance of planned configurations. In this paper, we propose an approach to knowledge-based adaptation of simulation models. The vision of this work is to go one step beyond parameter optimization, namely to provide means for automated structural changes in simulation models, and thus for the generation of simulation model variants. For a first evaluation of our approach, we introduce a system consisting of a simulation control as well as a model adaptation module with a set of adaptation operations. Our implementation is coupled to the simulation system Plant simulation in order to perform simulation runs. For illustration we apply our system to a test scenario and present first results. © 2010 SCS.

The modeling and simulation (M&S) community is faced with the task of informing public policy decision makers, from both the defense community and from the civilian sector, of the impact of their decisions on the beliefs, values and interests (BVIs) of the populations in their areas of influence. The M&S techniques used for these types of analyses by necessity challenge the traditional boundaries and methods regarding validation efforts. Given that the analysis of populations is largely intractable via reductionist methodologies, we posit that insight must be garnered through experiment and iteration using simulated societies. Further, the designs of these simulation experiments must be based on the information needs of the community. We discuss the concept of developing social simulations by use case, the validation of data sources for model development, validation techniques guided by usefulness, and a case study approach to validation of social simulations. © 2010 SCS.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) and event-driven architecture (EDA) have received significant attention recently. This paper presents an event-driven service-oriented simulation framework that combines both features of SOA and EDA and it can be used to evaluate embedded applications. The framework allows events, event generators, and event handlers to be published, discovered, and composed to develop an event-driven system, furthermore these can be seamlessly integrated into the existing SOA framework where publishing, discovery, composition and runtime monitoring are key features. This paper also uses PSML (Process Specification and Modeling Language) [1] to specify events. Finally, this paper uses an embedded system to illustrate the framework. © 2010 SCS.

To achieve a new web service functionality based on already existing web services, we need to describe a web service composition which consists of not only a set of interface collaborations among the web services but also a set of internal behaviors of the web services like a business process. But the description of a web service composition should be verified in terms of the correctness or time-related properties while representing internal and external behaviors which are written in xml-based standards, such as WSBPEL or WS-CDL. In this paper, a verification method is proposed which evaluates the choreography and the composition of the orchestrations for a web service composition. For that purpose, this paper provides a transformation method from orchestration descriptions and a choreography description to a set of formal state-based models. Moreover, we suggest analysis guidelines to evaluate the static and dynamic properties of the expecting web service composition through checking the simulation results. © 2010 SCS.

Allocating storage space at TPL systems differs significantly from traditional private logistics systems. The resources are commodities sold directly to customers of different characteristics. Total revenue suffers when allocating too much to lower-rate (i.e. price sensitive) customers;and the resources allocated to full-rate (i.e. time sensitive) customers become "spoiled" when the orders do not arrive as expected. The random nature of order characteristics (including arrival pattern) makes allocation decisions very hard. This paper proposed a simulation approach that focuses on the development of a robust conceptual framework for simulation modeling and analysis of this important class of problems. Computer models are being developed with ARENA© and used to verify and validate the concepts and mechanisms developed. Limited simulation experiments were conducted to compare allocation strategies in terms of defined performance measures, and produced the results consistent with intuition and practice. © 2010 SCS.

To reduce the manufacturing cost and promote the producing efficiency, 300mm wafer is increasingly adopted rather than 200mm one in semiconductor industry. In order to use 300mm wafer, it is necessary to have an automated process for 300mm wafer because it's heavy weight and big size. And companies intend to save cost by constructing it. As you know the automated manufacturing process is more influenced by disposition of equipments and way of transmission. In this paper we've carried out the experiments focused on cutting down a producing cost and increasing a producing efficiency according to change the transmission way from one-way to two way In conclusion, the two way is more profitable than one way even if there are many restrictions. © 2010 SCS.

The interest in having architects utilize building simulation software to better inform conceptual design decisions has been present in the design industry for more than a decade, yet the adoption of simulation by architects in practice has been slow. Past research into the barriers of adoption has often looked through the lens of particular software, with conclusions aimed at improving the tools' interface and applicability to the architects' process. While software has made great advancement, we hear more often today of the engineer stepping forward to apply simulation to the conceptual design process rather than the architect learning to use simulation. In a survey of ten North American firms, diverse in offering design and/or engineering services, individual practices for incorporating simulation into conceptual design were compared. The more common presence of the engineer in conceptual design modeling promises a new collaborative approach to the sustainable design process, overcoming a significant barrier to the architects own adoption while highlighting a need for greater efficiencies in communication between software and analysis time. © 2010 SCS.
