Urban transport systems are increasingly important for modern cities as they provide sustainable transport and a positive social environment. The systems that allow controlling transport infrastructures integrate many legacy systems and require increasing resources for maintenance. Authorities managing public transport facilities not only need to dynamically adapt to the daily fluctuations in city life, but they also strive to be in constant dialogue with the citizens. In this poster paper, we present our preliminary insights from a study where we looked closely at the operations centre of a light rail and bus operator in a major German city. Through contextual inquiry, we chart emerging issues and design challenges. We showcase how urban facility managers negotiate legacy systems and cooperate with each other to keep transport systems functioning.

In recent years, with the rapid development of the Internet, the data scale of application behavior and application traffic have exploded. How to classify the real-time traffic of network becomes a big challenge. How to balance the accuracy and real-time of traffic classification is a difficult problem in technology. Therefore, this paper proposes a pattern matching real-time traffic classification method named PM, which first uses jpcap to accept network traffic data in real time, and then uses pattern matching to perform real-time matching traffic characteristics to achieve traffic classification. Among them, the use of the distributed message system kafka and the parallel computing framework Spark significantly improve the execution efficiency of the program. The experimental results show that PM has good performance in terms of accuracy. © 2018 IEEE.

The focus of classic mechanism design has been on truthful direct-revelation mechanisms. In the context of combinatorial auctions, the truthful direct-revelation mechanism that maximizes social welfare is the Vickrey-Clarke-Groves mechanism. For many valuation spaces, computing the allocation and payments of the VCG mechanism, however, is a computationally hard problem. We thus study the performance of the VCG mechanism when bidders are forced to choose bids from a subspace of the valuation space for which the VCG outcome can be computed efficiently. We prove improved upper bounds on the welfare loss for restrictions to additive bids and upper and lower bounds for restrictions to non-additive bids. These bounds show that increased expressiveness can give rise to additional equilibria of poorer efficiency. © 2018 acm

Engineering Change Orders (ECO) modify a synthesized netlist after its specification has changed. ECO is divided into two major tasks: Finding target signals whose functions should be updated and synthesizing the patch that produces the desired change. This paper proposes an efficient SAT-based solution for the second task: Resource-aware computation of multi-output patch functions. The solution is based on several new algorithms and outperforms the top three winners of the 2017 ICCAD CAD Contest (Problem A). © 2018 Association for computing Machinery.

To solve the problem that network services provided by ships can’t distinguish different users and the Quality of Service (QoS) is poor, an intelligent shipborne terminal system which combines advanced positioning technology and wireless communication technology is designed in this paper. The overall design of the system including hardware design and software design is proposed. The test results show that the system can distinguish between different users’ Wi-Fi connection, intelligentize the management of system users, realizes the function of GPS positioning navigation and has a rich local resource storage, which all proved its good application value. © ICST Institute for computer Sciences, social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering 2018.

Atmospheric muons are the dominant component of the down-going events for the KM3NeT neutrino telescopes. Deep underwater measurements of muons provide important information about the cosmic ray properties. The KM3NeT research infrastructure includes two telescopes currently in operation while still being under construction in the Mediterranean Sea. The KM3NeT/ORCA detector is deployed at 2450 m depth near Toulon, France. The KM3NeT/ARCA telescope is located at 3500 m depth off-shore Capo Passero, Italy. In this work, the measured atmospheric muon flux is compared to the Monte Carlo simulation using the CORSIKA package with the Sibyll 2.3d model for high-energy hadronic interactions and the GSF model for mass composition. The data from both KM3NeT/ORCA and KM3NeT/ARCA telescopes are considered for this analysis. In the current configuration, KM3NeT/ORCA covers cosmic ray energy range from several TeV up to hundreds of TeV per nucleon, while for KM3NeT/ARCA the range is from several TeV up to PeV per nucleon. Systematic uncertainties considered for the analysis include that on the cosmic ray flux normalization and its composition, water properties, detector response, and high-energy hadronic interaction models. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

Advances in Wearable Devices and Artificial Intelligence upgrade the use of ICT aiming both at improving humans’ life quality as well as safety. This paper presents a system for the detection of mental focus depletion comprising a robust embedded system used for aggregating EEG data and transferring them in real time to a central server where specific purpose software is used for further processing. With the explosive growth of online social networks, many social recommendation methods have been proposed and demonstrated that social information has potential to improve the recommendation performance. However, existing social recommendation methods always assume that the data is missing at random (MAR) but this is rarely the case. In fact, by analysing two real-world social recommendation datasets, we observed the following interesting phenomena: (1) users tend to consume and rate the items that they like and the items that have been consumed by their friends. (2) When the items have been consumed by more friends, the average values of the observed ratings will become smaller, not larger as assumed by the existing models. To model these phenomena, we integrate the missing not at random (MNAR) assumption in social recommendation and propose a new social recommendation method SPMF-MNAR, which models the observation process of rating data based on user's preference and social influence. Extensive experiments conducted on large real-world datasets validate that SPMF-MNAR achieves better performance than existing social recommendation methods and the non-social methods based on MNAR assumption. © 2018 IEEE.

The main goal of my research project is to investigate the social and technological conditions for infrastructuring computer-supported collaboration with the aim to enhancing the life condition of low-income people living on Madeira island. The idea underpinning the project is to foster the connection between high and low-skilled people, trying to find common interests that could lead them to collaborate with mutual advantages. The objective of the resulting ICT tool is to provide those usually considered merely as "low-skilled" with the opportunity to take advantage of their practical skills and informal knowledge. They will benefit from the process of re-Thinking their abilities, from the possibility to interact with people belonging to other social networks and from discovering the possibilities provided by technology in terms of communication and organization. © ECSCW 2017 - proceedings of the 15th European conference on computer supported cooperative work. I378 applications on mobile devices are attracting more users nowadays. Unfortunately, mobile devices have limited resources while interactive applications run compute-intensive algorithms with extreme latency needs. Cloud offloading is proposed to compensate for the computing capacity. However, how to retrieve data efficiently in distributed clouds remains to be a significant open problem. In this paper, we propose Sailfish, a cooperative parallel-flow data retrieving framework which can reduce the latency of all users to support interactive applications. We further formulate the Data Retrieving Minimization (DRM) problem to minimize the sum of all users' data retrieving latency under bandwidth constraints. To solve large scale problems efficiently, we design a high-efficient Parallel-Flow Greedy Algorithm (PFGA) that leverages parallel flows to retrieve data from multiple cloud storage servers. We implement PFGA and evaluate it with extensive trace-based simulation. Evaluation results demonstrate all users' data retrieving latency of PFGA outperforms that of the state of the art by up to 68.3%. © 2018 IEEE.
