Component-based software is a major recent design trend in robotics. It brings many benefits to system design, implementation, maintenance and architectural flexibility. While previous methods of structuring software led to monolithic robot software incapable of easily using multiple architectures, the component-based approach, combined with some suitable software engineering decisions, opens new possibilities for interaction amongst architectures. Rather than using a single architecture for an entire robot system, we now have the opportunity to use the best architecture for the job in each part of the robot without inefficient wrapping or translation. For example, a real-time architecture for actuator control and a planning-based architecture for intelligence. In this paper, we use the example of a native ROS transport for the OpenRTM-aist architecture to illustrate the benefits of allowing architectures to interact in this way.

ANIMA has as a primary objective to compare three non-conventional human com-puter interfaces that comply with the industrial robot ST robotics R-17 instructions. This mod-ule, Alpha Waves Related Potentials - ARP- explains how brain waves are obtained, processed, analyzed and identified depending on their frequency. This module makes use of the Open EEG Project's open hardware monitor for brain wave activity, called the modular EEG. The brain waves are obtained through an electrode cap complying with the international 10-20 system for electrode positioning. The brain waves are processed with a fast Fourier transform using a mi-crocontroller and analyzed in software identifying the alpha wave's contribution. A program identifies the amount of time that alpha wave generation was maintained through concentration, and instructions are sent to the robotic arm, executing one of four pre-defined routines. Thirty percent of the users attained control over the robotic arm with the human computer interface.

This paper analyze a control strategy for simultaneously regulating the position of the ZMP and the joints of the robot. The unexpected rotation of the supporting foot is avoided via the control of zero moment point (ZMP). The proposed controller is based on a path-following control strategy, we used a class of ¿continuous time-invariant feedback controllers¿ to provide globally finite-time stability. The objective of the control law is based on tracking a reference path in the joint space instead of a reference function of time.
