Studies have shown that the formation of emotion as self-awareness and cognitive appraisal process is complicated and can lead to idiosyncratic differences. Subject's self emotion evaluation process could be biased due to factors of environment, personal experience, and one's own cognitive ability, and the true affective state may be neglected (un-noticeable) due to an unconscious mental process. In this work, we present a comprehensive study to investigate the emotion recognition accuracy obtained using physiology with respect to different annotation schemes, i.e., intended, self-reported, and observed emotion labels. We found that when performing recognition across these three different labeling schemes using the same physiological parameters, the accuracy of the self-reported emotion labels results in about 10.3% and 3.1% drop when compared to two other annotation schemes. It indicates that self-assessed emotion labels may be noisier and induces a larger mismatch with respect to the affect-stimulated physiological responses. Further analysis shows that the electrodermal activity signal has the highest recognition rate with respect to the intended emotion of the stimuli. Finally, our error analysis reveals that there may exist a bias in the self-annotated label that is conditioned on the intended stimuli's valence polarity.

In order to realize automatic recognition of surgical processes in surgical brain tumor removal using microscopic camera, we propose a method of detecting and tracking surgical tools by video analysis. the proposed method consists of a detection part and tracking part. In the detection part, object detection is performed for each frame of surgery video, and the category and bounding box are acquired frame by frame. the convolution layer strengthens the robustness using data augmentation (central cropping and random erasing). the tracking part uses SORT, which predicts and updates the acquired bounding box corrected by using Kalman Filter;next, the object ID is assigned to each corrected bounding box using the Hungarian algorithm. the accuracy of our proposed method is very high as follows. As a result of experiments on spatial detection. the mean average precision is 90.58%. the mean accuracy of frame label detection is 96.58%. these results are very promising for surgical phase recognition.

Touch plays an important role in socio-emotional communication: a loving hug from a spouse, a comforting tap on the back by friend, a push from a stranger convey efficiently an emotion or an intent, specially when combined with other modalities such as audition and vision. In a parent-child relationship, the frequency of maternal touch is positively correlated to the a child early social development. In addition, Touch occurs frequently in patient care situation: a massage therapy, for instance, reduces chronic pain and alleviates anxiety when properly applied by a nurse. Underexplored by the human-machine-interaction and the affective computing literature, the purpose of this thesis is to integrate the sense of touch into interactive systems. In this paper we introduce a novel data collection framework for social touch and present the social touch recognition pipeline.

In recent years, the imbalance between urban and rural development in China has caused more and more social problems, such as the imbalance of urban and rural development structure, and insufficient rural development. For that, the country has launched a new model of spatial integration development of ecological-production-living (EPL) spaces, among which, especially the forest development and construction research is at a crucial stage. By referring to relevant domestic researches, this paper takes Nanxi Village, at Puyang Town, in Dujiangyan City, as the research object, selects its three remote sensing images about 2005, 2012 and 2020, and uses ArcGis mapping and analyzing functions to obtain land use data for three years. After drawing the first and second classification maps of production space, living space, ecological space pattern and various land use area statistics in the three phases of the study area, we analyze the quantitative structure changes, land type conversion and pattern change of the EPL spaces in Nanxi Village. the results show that: (1) Southern Village EPL spaces area of production space> ecological space> living space. the EPL spaces' functions are based on production, ecological function as vice, and life for the secondary. (2) Comparing the three-phase data, it is found that the ecological space and living space of Nanxi Village increase year by year, and the production space decreases sharply. © 8th international Symposium on Project Management, ISPM 2020. Associative models are Artificial Intelligence tools and have been used in many applications such as pattern recognition, classification, encryption, among others. In this paper we applied these models to trace a person in an indoor environment by the means of the power of a Wi-Fi signal. We deal with this problem as a classification task. We used a preprocessing for the data to improve the results. Our performance was 95.75%.

Automated argument stance (pro/contra) detection is a challenging text categorization problem, especially if said arguments are to be detected for new topics. In previous research, we designed and evaluated an explainable machine learning based classifier. It was capable to achieve 96% F1 for argument stance recognition within the same topic and 60% F1 for previously unseen topics, which informed our hypothesis, that there are two sets of features in argument stance recognition: General features and topic specific features. An advantage of the described system is its quick transferability to new problems. Besides providing further details about the developed C3 TFIDF-SVM classifier, we investigate the classifiers effectiveness for different text categorization problems spanning two natural languages. Besides the quick transferability, the generation of human readable explanations about why specific results were achieved is a key feature of the described approach. We further investigate the generated explanation understandability and conduct a survey about how understandable the classifier's explanations are.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have been being widely employed to solve the challenging remote sensing task of aerial scene classification. Nevertheless, it is not straightforward to find single CNN models that can solve all aerial scene classification tasks, allowing the development of a better alternative, which is to fuse CNN-based classifiers into an ensemble. However, an appropriate choice of the classifiers that will belong to the ensemble is a critical factor, as it is unfeasible to employ all the possible classifiers in the literature. therefore, this work proposes a novel framework based on meta-heuristic optimization for creating optimized ensembles in the context of aerial scene classification. the experimental results were performed across nine meta-heuristic algorithms and three aerial scene literature datasets, being compared in terms of effectiveness (accuracy), efficiency (execution time), and behavioral performance in different scenarios. Our results suggest that the Univariate Marginal Distribution Algorithm shows more effective and efficient results than other commonly used meta-heuristic algorithms, such as Genetic Programming and Particle Swarm Optimization. © 2020 IEEE

A time series analysis method for spacecraft telemetry data is presented in this paper. For spacecraft testing and on-orbit flight, this method can monitor the changes of telemetry data automatically and identify the failure modes of spacecraft. Using dynamic time warping (DTW) algorithm, combining historical data samples as well as fault cases with this method analyzes the similarity of telemetry data transformed into time series. By comparing the results of analysis with the results of DTW distance calculation, the relative deviation of data is measured and the abnormal data in fault mode is identified. the results show that the telemetry data analysis method based on DTW algorithm can effectively detect data anomalies and realize fault identification, which has a certain application prospect. © 2020, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Inertial sensors such as accelerometers and gyroscopes have gained popularity in recent years for their use in human activity recognition. However, little work has been done on using these sensors for gait-based person identification. Gait-based person identification turns out to be important in applications such as where different people share the same wearable device and it is desirable to identify who is using the device at a given time while walking. In this research, we present the first multi-sensory gait-based person identification dataset EJUST-GINR-1 and present our work on gait-based person identification using multi-sensory data, by mounting 8 wearable inertial sensory devices on different body locations and use this data to identify the person using it. Two of these sensors are smart watches worn on both wrists. We explore the correlation between each body location and the identification accuracy, as well as exploring the effect of fusing pairs of sensory units in different locations, on the final classification performance.
