With the advancement and proliferation of technology, non-profit organisations have embraced social media platforms to improve their operational capabilities through brand advocacy, among many other strategies. The effect of such social media campaigns on these institutions, however, remains largely underexplored, especially during disaster periods. This work introduces and applies a quantitative investigative framework to understand how social media influence the behaviour of donors and their usage of these platforms throughout (natural) disasters. More specifically, we explore how on-line engagement – as captured by Facebook interactions and Google search trends – corresponds to the donors’ behaviour during the catastrophic 2019–2020 Australian bushfire season. To discover this relationship, we analyse the record of donations made to the Australian Red Cross throughout this period. Our exploratory study reveals that social media campaigns are effective in encouraging on-line donations made via a dedicated website. We also compare this mode of giving to more regular, direct deposit gifting. © 2022 Information systems for Crisis Response and Management, ISCRAM. All rights reserved.

In the manufacture information capture system of discrete manufacturing, because of the difference of equipment performance, there is a big difference between the detection data of multiple sensors for the same production information, which directly affects the reliability of manufacturing execution system. In this paper, a data fusion algorithm of discrete manufacturing detection based on fractional order differential operator is proposed, and a data fusion model of discrete manufacturing detection based on fractional order differential operator is established. The application of 0.5 order differential operator in the data fusion of lathe energy consumption detection proves the superiority of fractional order differential fusion algorithm. The experimental results show that the fractional differential operator has the advantages of real-time and good fusion effect in the production information fusion processing of discrete manufacturing online detection, and can improve the reliability of discrete manufacturing system.

During financial crises or other unexpected events, investors often seek to include lower-risk assets in their portfolios. Some assets are more sensitive than others to such phenomena. In the equities markets, adjustments tend to be made to the shareholdings of companies that are associated with a higher level of uncertainty. In this work, we explore the evolution of shareholder structure of various well-known companies in the technology sector during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. We model, as graphs, shareholder ownership data about twenty US-listed companies between 2020 and 2022. We use freely available tools to explore the bipartite interactions and generate a wide range of topologies that facilitate the identification of how shareholding structures have evolved during the pandemic. In addition, we study the role that some nodes play in the network topology and the process of change that is observed. Our findings include that (1) most investors reduced the amount invested in technology stocks during the pandemic and that these investments tended to bounce back in the post-pandemic era;(2) Vanguard Group, Inc., is the most influential investor in the network;(3) Apple has the highest market capitalization of all technology stocks for all quarters in this study, Microsoft Corp has a significantly lower market capitalization, but a significantly higher number of investors;and (4) While investors for Apple and Microsoft tend to be from London and New York, companies such as Oracle have investors from a variety of locations. © 2022 Copyright for this paper by its authors. In various industrial production environments a burn-in phase of a specific settling-length precedes a stable (i.e. steady-state, stationary) process mode. The identification of the corresponding physical parameters may be difficult to perform in the presence of strong noise. We propose a method using isotonic regression which circumvents the negative effects of heteroscedasticity related to naive estimation procedures adding robustness against different occurrences of scale on which the run-in effect is observed. Social media has been a powerful tool and integral part of communication, especially during natural disasters. Social media platforms help nonprofits in effective disaster management by disseminating crucial information to various communities at the earliest. Besides spreading information to every corner of the world, various platforms incorporate many features that give access to host online fundraising events, process online donations, etc. The current literature lacks the theoretical structure investigating the correlation between social media engagement and crisis management. Large nonprofit organisations like the Australian Red Cross have upscaled their operations to help nearly 6,000 bushfire survivors through various grants and helped 21,563 people with psychological support and other assistance through their recovery program (Australian Red Cross, 2021). This paper considers the case of bushfires in Australia 2019-2020 to inspect the role of social media in escalating fundraising via analysing the donation data of the Australian Red Cross from October 2019 - March 2020 and analysing the level of public interaction with their Facebook page and its content in the same period. © 2022 Information systems for Crisis Response and Management, ISCRAM. The 'Virtual Touch Toolkit' is the exergame bundle of a newly developed smartphone application for mental health. The primary aim of the exercises is to promote self-discovery by focusing on social, affective touch. The necessity of acknowledging the undervalued properties of affective touch in this day and age is more important than ever as a global pandemic is provoking societal changes that are predicted to be detrimental to our mutual need for affective touch. The toolkit comprises multiple features and sets of exercises, which are designed to stimulate the user's oxytocinergic and reward systems while offering educational insights on affective touch. © 2022 IEEE.

The EU-funded FET Proactive Environmental Intelligence project "I-Seed"(Grant Agreement n. 101017940, https://***/) targets towards the development of a radically simplified and environmentally friendly approach for environmental monitoring. Specifically, I-Seed aims at developing a new generation of self-deployable and biodegradable soft miniaturized robots, inspired by the morphology and dispersion abilities of plant seeds, able to perform low-cost, environmentally responsible, in-situ measurements. The natural functional mechanisms of seeds dispersal offer a rich source of robust, highly adaptive, mass and energy efficient mechanisms, and behavioral and morphological intelligence, which can be selected and implemented for advanced, but simple, technological inventions. I-Seed robots are conceived as unique in their movement abilities because inspired by passive mechanisms and materials of natural seeds, and unique in their environmentally friendly design because made of all biodegradable components. Sensing is based on a chemical transduction mechanism in a stimulus-responsive sensor material with fluorescence-based optical readout, which can be read via one or more drones equipped with fluorescent LiDAR technology and a software able to perform a real time georeferencing of data. The I-Seed robotic ecosystem is envisioned to be used for collecting environmental data in-situ with high spatial and temporal resolution across large remote areas where no monitoring data are available, and thus for extending current environmental sensor frameworks and data analysis systems. © 2022 Owner/Author.

Pulse localization is the basic task of the pulse diagnosis with robot. More accurate location can reduce the misdiagnosis caused by different types of pulse. Traditional works usually use a collection surface with a certain area for contact detection, and move the collection surface to collect changes of power for pulse localization. These methods often require the subjects place their wrist in a given position. In this paper, we propose a novel pulse localization method which uses the infrared camera as the input sensor, and locates the pulse on wrist with the neural network. This method can not only reduce the contact between the machine and the subject, reduce the discomfort of the process, but also reduce the preparation time for the test, which can improve the detection efficiency. The experiments show that our proposed method can locate the pulse with high accuracy. And we have applied this method to pulse diagnosis robot for pulse data collection. © 2021 ACM.

Software-intensive Cyber-Physical Production systems (SiCPPS), like metallurgical plants or manufacturing plants, are highly variable systems of systems that frequently evolve. They typically involve a large number of heterogeneous components (mechanical, electrical, mechatronic, software) that can be configured and combined in different ways. Variability results not only from hardware and software components but also development processes, disciplines (mechanical, electrical, software engineering), methods, and tools. Dealing with variability in industry currently depends too much on mostly tacit domain expert knowledge and custom-built tools focusing on very specific artifacts and software and hardware platforms. Existing research in the area of SiCPPS does not explicitly and systematically deal with variability. Promising software engineering methods and tools, e.g., from the area of Software Product Lines, need to be adapted for the particular challenges in SiCPPS. In this research preview paper, we discuss open research issues, research goals, and propose a research agenda towards mastering variability in SiCPPS. (C) 2021 The Authors.
