Recently, the horizon of dynamic time warping (DTW) for matching two sequential patterns has been extended to deal with non-Markovian constraints. the non-Markovian constraints regulate the matching in a wider scale, whereas Markovian constraints regulate the matching only locally. the global optimization of the non-Markovian DTW is proved to be solvable in polynomial time by a graph cut algorithm. the main contribution of this paper is to reveal what is the best constraint for handwriting recognition by using the non-Markovian DTW. the result showed that the best constraint is not a Markovian but a totally non-Markovian constraint that regulates the matching between very distant points;that is, it was proved that the conventional Markovian DTW has a clear limitation and the non-Markovian DTW should be more focused in future research.

the Proteus architecture is a highly parallel, multiple instruction, multiple data machine (MIMD) optimized for large granularity tasks such as machine vision and image processing. the system can achieve 20 gigaflops (80 gigaflops peak). It accepts data via multiple serial links at a rate of up to 640 MB/s. the system employs a hierarchical reconfigurable interconnection network with the highest level being a circuit-switched enhanced hypercube, serial interconnection network for internal data transfers. the system is designed to use 256 to 1024 RISC processors. the processors use 1-MB external read/write allocating caches for reduced multiprocessor contention. the system detects, locates, and replaces faulty subsystems using redundant hardware to facilitate fault tolerance. the parallelism is directly controllable through an advanced software system for partitioning, scheduling, and development. System software includes a translator for the INSIGHT language, a parallel debugger, low- and high-level simulators, and a message-passing system for all control needs. Image-processing application software includes a variety of point operators, neighborhood operators, convolution, and the mathematical morphology operations of binary and gray-scale dilation, erosion, opening, and closing.

Modulation pattern recognition of communication signals is a key technology in wireless communication, and the continuous complexity of the channel environment has put forward higher requirements on the communication signal modulation capability. this paper proposes a pattern recognition method of communication modulated signal based on weighted KNN. Firstly, signals of different modulation modes were generated in MATLAB. then, the modulated signal features in the time and frequency domain were extracted, and the information entropy was included. Secondly, the extracted features were used to train and test the weighted KNN algorithm. By comparing the recognition effect of the modulated signals before and after signal feature extraction, it is concluded that feature extraction has a substantial improvement on the recognition accuracy and computing efficiency of weighted KNN, and different features have a significant effect on the recognition. © 2022 IEEE.

Information on the ratings of several features of items can be deployed to improve the quality of recommendations in recommender systems by incorporating them into similarity calculation between any two users or two items. However, the incremental information of these features has important impacts on recommender systems. For example, the complexity of similarity calculation is increased and more resources are consumed during the process for generating recommendations. In this paper, we propose several techniques by using this information to provide relevant recommendations and to reduce the complexity in similarity computation by directly matching between preferences of user and the strength of item features. © 2010 IEEE.

Modern computationally-heavy applications are often time-sensitive, demanding distributed strategies to accelerate them. On the other hand, distributed computing suffers from the bottleneck of slow workers in practice. Distributed coded computing is an attractive solution that adds redundancy such that a subset of distributed computations suffices to obtain the final result. However, the final result is still either obtained within a desired time or not, and for the latter, the resources that are spent are wasted. In this paper, we introduce the novel concept of layered-resolution distributed coded computations such that lower resolutions of the final result are obtained from collective results of the workers - at an earlier stage than the final result. this innovation makes it possible to have more effective deadline-based systems, since even if a computational job is terminated because of timing, an approximated version of the final result can be released. Based on our theoretical and empirical results, the average execution delay for the first resolution is notably smaller than the one for the final resolution. Moreover, the probability of meeting a deadline is one for the first resolution in a setting where the final resolution exceeds the deadline almost all the time, reducing the success rate of the systems with no layering.

Kubernetes' high resource requirements hamper its adoption in constrained environments such as the edge and fog. Its extensible control plane is a significant contributor to this, consisting of long-lived processes called "controllers" that constantly listen for state changes and use resources even when they are not needed. this paper presents a WebAssembly-based framework for running lightweight controllers on-demand, only when they are needed. this framework extends the WebAssembly System Interface (WASI), in order to run Kubernetes controllers as lightweight Wasm modules. the framework runs these Wasm controllers in a modified version of Wasmtime, the reference WebAssembly (Wasm) runtime, that swaps idle controllers to disk and activates them when needed. A thorough evaluation shows this framework achieves a 64% memory reduction compared to traditional container-based controller frameworks.

Temperature can change the chemical composition and internal structure of metals during heat treatment processing, which is the decisive factor affecting the quality of processing devices. Aiming at the trend change of temperature in the process of heat treatment, a state recognition method based on piecewise linear representation of time series is proposed. the method first extracts the turning point according to the angle change of the time series temperature data, then divides the trend segment of the original data by turning point, then uses bottom-Up algorithm to merge the trend segment to obtain the segmented linear representation, trains the SVM classification by the statistical characteristics of the segmented data, and finally obtains the processing state of the heat treatment process. Taking the actual data of a unit heat treatment workshop site as an example, the effectiveness of this method is verified by experimenting with the proposed method. © 2022 IEEE.

this paper presents a development of classification Deep Learning (DL)-based model for simulated vehicles intruding a sensor network. the study proposes a DL architecture that is capable of learning and classifying a set of six different vehicle classes including motorcycles, military SUV, trucks, tank, etc. the proposed DL architecture consists of number of layers including: input, convolution, activation, pooling, flatten, fully-connected, and soft-max layers. To train and validate the proposed model, a simulated sensor network was developed to detect intruding vehicles to a guarded area. Simulated sensors were deployed on large scale, detection patters are collected and fed to the DL model for training and validation. the experimental results showed that the proposed model was effective and reliable with an average accuracy of 95.41% and a highest accuracy of 98.31%. the primary outcome of this study is that simple large-scale deployment of simple sensors is effective in detecting and tracking objects within a sensor network. We believe the proposed model can be extended to different domains such as wildlife surveys and forest protection. © 2024 Bharati Vidyapeeth, New Delhi.

Sequential pattern mining is a technique which finds out frequent patterns from the data set with a time attribute. Dynamic weighted sequential pattern mining can be applied to a computing environment that is constantly changed according to time period and it can be applied to a variety of environments with changes of weight value. In this paper, we propose a new sequential pattern mining method to discover frequent sequential patterns by applying the dynamic weight. this method reduces the number of candidate patterns by dynamic weight according to the relative time sequence. this also decreases the memory usage and processing time compared with existing methods. And we show the importance of processing USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) stream data with hash map structure and the method of renewing current frequent pattern list. © 2017 ACM.
