Crowd counting, a crucial task in visual surveillance and automated public monitoring, entails accurately determining the number of individuals within a given image. While significant progress has been made in this domain, existing solutions often exhibit limitations, such as requirements for individuals to be in motion, simplistic backgrounds, or high image resolutions. However, real-world scenarios typically involve both moving and stationary individuals, complex backgrounds, and videos with relatively low resolutions in visual surveillance systems. Consequently, achieving accurate crowd counting and human identification in such contexts remains a significant challenge. the primary objective is to develop a robust vision system capable of monitoring activities within a site over extended durations. To address these challenges, we propose an innovative crowd counting application leveraging artificial neural network methodologies, particularly utilizing the latest iteration of the YOLO (You Only Look Once) framework. this approach operates on live video streams in real-time, offering instantaneous analytics that can substantially enhance security measures and inform infrastructure development initiatives. By harnessing the power of deep learning and real-time analytics, our proposed framework aims to overcome the limitations of existing crowd counting methods and provide actionable insights for risk management applications. © 2024 IEEE.

learning representations of the world as a pretraining task before a supervised or reinforcement learning phase is a common application for self-supervised learning. In theory, if the learnt representations are good and broad enough, a new model based on them should require fewer instances to learn a specific job. It is generally expected that good self-supervised algorithms are also good few-shot learners. this research examines the few-shot capabilities of two well-known self-supervised learning algorithms for visual representations, SimCLR [1] and SimSiam [2], and compares them against a supervised counterpart. A common evaluation protocol is to train a linear classifier on top of (frozen) representations learnt by self-supervised methods. this protocol is taken a step further by evaluating supervised and self-supervised methods on a few-shot image classification task using frozen representations. the experiments find that, as expected, the supervised method has higher performance than self-supervised methods SimCLR [1] and SimSiam [2]. However, SimCLR [1] gives a consistently better performance and is proposed as a potentially good self-supervised approach to learn image representations for few-shot image tasks when supervised learning is not feasible. Furthermore, this opens up a new area of focus for future research - evaluating the efficacy of other SOTA self-supervised methods like BYOL [3] and Barlow Twins [4] for a variety of few-shot tasks across domains. © 2024 IEEE.

We present a gate synthesis application of the Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) algorithm for continuous control in a noisy quantum environment. Gate synthesis plays a crucial role in quantum computing, and optimizing control strategies for gate synthesis is of significant interest. the proposed approach leverages a DNN-based actor-critic architecture to optimize gate synthesis performance. the effectiveness of the algorithm is evaluated through simulations in a noiseless and noisy quantum environment, demonstrating its ability to achieve high-fidelity gate synthesis, O(10-3), despite the presence of Markovian damping terms. the results highlight the potential of DDPG and reinforcement learning techniques for addressing continuous control challenges in quantum computing applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Quantum Computing promises the availability of computational resources and generalization capabilities well beyond the possibilities of classical computers. An interesting approach for leveraging the near-term, Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum computers, is the hybrid training of Parameterized Quantum Circuits (PQCs), i.e. the optimization of a parameterized quantum algorithms as a function approximation with classical optimization techniques. When PQCs are used in machine learning models, they may offer some advantages over classical models in terms of memory consumption and sample complexity for classical data analysis. In this work we explore and assess the advantages of the application of Parametric Quantum Circuits to one of the state-of-art Reinforcement learning algorithm for continuous control - namely Soft Actor-Critic. We investigate its performance on the control of a virtual robotic arm by means of digital simulations of quantum circuits. A quantum advantage over the classical algorithm has been found in terms of a significant decrease in the amount of required parameters for satisfactory model training, paving the way for further developments and studies. Security applications use machine learning (ML) models and artificial intelligence (AI) to autonomously protect systems. However, security decisions are more impactful if they are coupled with their rationale. the explanation behind an ML model's result provides the rationale necessary for a security decision. Explainable AI (XAI) techniques provide insights into the state of a model's attributes and their contribution to the model's results to gain the end user's confidence. It requires human intervention to investigate and interpret the explanation. the interpretation must align system's security profile(s). A security profile is an abstraction of the system's security requirements and related functionalities to comply with them. Relying on human intervention for interpretation is infeasible for an autonomous system (AS) since it must self-adapt its functionalities in response to uncertainty at runtime. thus, an AS requires an automated approach to extract security profile information from ML model XAI outcomes. the challenge is unifying the XAI outcomes with the security profile to represent the interpretation in a structured form. this paper presents a component to facilitate AS information extraction from ML model XAI outcomes related to predictions and generating an interpretation considering the security profile. © 2023 IEEE.

this study aims to design and implement a financial risk control system based on machine learning algorithms and big data technologies to improve the risk management capability of financial institutions. the system is designed using key steps such as data collection and collation, feature engineering, model selection and training, risk assessment and prediction, risk reporting and monitoring, and automated decision making and *** the data collection and collation phase, the system collects a large amount of financial market data, transaction data and customer data, and ensures the accuracy and consistency of the data through data cleansing and collation. Next, the system performs feature engineering, using machine learning algorithms to extract and transform features from the data to better express the characteristics and relationships of the data. this includes statistical features, time series features, technical indicators, etc. the system then selects machine learning models suitable for financial risk control, such as decision trees, random forests, support vector machines, etc., and uses historical data to train and optimise the models. the trained models are used to perform risk assessment and prediction on current data, such as assessing the risk of investment varieties such as stocks and bonds, predicting market volatility, and detecting abnormal transactions. the system also generates detailed risk reports and monitoring indicators to help financial institutions identify and respond to potential risk events in a timely manner. this includes the calculation of risk indicators and the generation of risk alerts, etc. Finally, the system can automatically trigger risk management strategies and trading decisions based on risk assessment results to reduce risk and improve investment returns. the design and implementation can effectively improve the risk management capability of financial institutions and promote the stable development of the financial mar
