In this paper, we present a novel application for interactive browsing of (recorded) surveillance content. the application is based on user feedback and enables an operator to switch between camera views that are likely to contain the same activity. Our system relies on off-the-shelf background-subtraction activity detection mechanisms. We use two techniques from machine learning to automatically learn the topology of surveillance camera networks. the first technique identifies connections between camera views for which objects are temporarily out of view, while the second technique identifies overlap between views. Testing on an actual surveillance camera network suggests that the approach is both accurate and robust, despite the simplicity of the involved computer vision methods.

the Didactic Networks proposed in this paper are based on previous publications in the field of the RSR (Rhetorical-Semantic Relations). the RSR is a set of primitive relations used for building a specific kind of semantic networks for artificial intelligence applications on the web: the RSN (Rhetorical-Semantic Networks). We bring into focus the RSR application in the field of e-learning, by defining Didactic Networks as a new set of semantic patterns oriented to the development of e-learning applications. the different lines we offer in our research fall mainly into three levels: • the most basic one is in the field of computational linguistics and related to Logical Operations on RSR (RSR Inverses and plurals, RSR combinations, etc), once they have been created. the application of Walter Bosma 's results regarding rhetorical distance application and treatment as semantic weighted networks is one of the important issues here. • In parallel, we have been working on the creation of a knowledge representation and storage model and data architecture capable of supporting the definition of knowledge networks based on RSR. • the third strategic line is in the meso-level, the formulation of a molecular structure of knowledge based on the most frequently used patterns. the main contribution at this level is the set of Fundamental Cognitive Networks (FCN) as an application of Novak's mental maps proposal. this paper is part of this third intermediate level, and the Fundamental Didactic Networks (FDN) are the result of the application of rhetorical theory procedures to the instructional theory. We have formulated a general set of RSR capable of building discourse, making it possible to express any concept, procedure or principle in terms of knowledge nodes and RSRs. the Instructional knowledge can then be elaborated in the same way. this network structure expressing the instructional knowledge in terms of RSR makes the objective of developing web-learning lessons semi-autom

When the amount of color data is reduced in a lossy compression scheme, the question of the use of a color distance is crucial, since no total order exists in R-n, n > 1. Yet, all existing color distance formulae have severe application limitation, even if they are widely used, and not necesseraly within the initial context they have bony] developed for. In this paper, a manifold learning approach is applied to reduce the dimension of data in a Vector Quantization approach to obtain data expressed in IR. three different techniques are applied before construct the codebook. Comparaisons with the standard LBG-based VQ method are performed to judge the performance of the proposed approach using PSNR, MS-SSIM and VSNR measures.

Financial forecasting is a lucrative and complicated application of machine learning. In this paper, we focus on the finding investment opportunities. We therefore explore four different Genetic Programming approaches and compare their performances on real-world data. We find that the novelties we introduced in some of these approaches indeed improve the results. However, we also show that the Genetic Programming process itself is still very inefficient and that further improvements are necessary if we want this application of GP to become successful. © 2010 IEEE.

Given a set of images captured using different integer zoom settings of a camera, we propose a fast approach to obtain super-resolution (SR) for the least zoomed image at a resolution of the most zoomed image. We first obtain SR approximation to the super-resolved image using a learning based approach that uses training database consisting of low-resolution (HI) and their high-resolution (HR.) images. We model the LE. observations as the aliased and noisy versions of their HR parts and estimate the decimation using the learned SR approxiination and the available least zoomed observation. A discontinuity preserving Markov random field (MRF) is used as a prior and its parameters are estimated using the SR approximation. Finally, Maximum a posteriori (MAP)-MRF formulation is used and the final cost function is optimized using particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique which is computationally efficient compared to simulated annealing. the proposed method can be used in multiresolution fusion for remotely sensed images where the available HR panchromatic image can be used to obtain HR multispectral images. Another interesting application is in immersive navigation for walk through application. Here one can change zoom setting without compromising on the spatial resolution.

For the past 4-5 years, we've been investigating a variety of computational methods for extracting linguistic structures from relatively large language corpora. these include the use of well-known standard labeled language resources such as those from the Linguistic Data Consortium, as well as a spectrum of unlabeled resources, including the Google n-gram repository and a variety of more specific search engine query and answer resources (e.g., from Sogou). Our specific goals in these investigations also vary, ranging from the induction of "tightness" of compound terms (e.g., the degree to which a collection of terms is compositional), spelling correction, extraction of concepts, methods for predicting nominal gender, and methods for resolving a variety of anaphora. In this spectrum of computational linguistic research, we can identify an emergent perspective on the nature of "noise" in both labeled and unlabeled corpora. Overall, we have found that there are many notions of "noise" across the spectrum of digital resources;our presentation attempts to summarize our observations on that structure. A basic premise to be elaborated is that there are at least two important notions of linguistic noise, including that arising from language use and variance in everything from spelling, grammar, and style in base language use, to what we might call the variance on linguistic structures arising from machine learning methods applied to a succession of labeled linguistic resources. A simple example is the use of any labeled data in subsequent structure induction, e.g., "golden" standards for tokenization or ontology tagging, subsequently used to construct labeled refinements for use in anaphora resolution or ontology matching. If there is value in our summary, it lies in helping to identify a framework for understanding a variety of distinct noise characteristics, which we hope will help reduce the compound impact of noise types that obtain in the application of learning method

S4 is a general-purpose, distributed, scalable, partially fault-tolerant, pluggable platform that allows programmers to easily develop applications for processing continuous unbounded streams of data. Keyed data events are routed with affinity to Processing Elements (PEs), which consume the events and do one or both of the following: (1) emit one or more events which may be consumed by other PEs, (2) publish results. the architecture resembles the Actors model [1], providing semantics of encapsulation and location transparency, thus allowing applications to be massively concurrent while exposing a simple programming interface to application developers. In this paper, we outline the S4 architecture in detail, describe various applications, including real-life deployments. Our design is primarily driven by large scale applications for data mining and machine learning in a production environment. We show that the S4 design is surprisingly flexible and lends itself to run in large clusters built with commodity hardware. © 2010 IEEE.

Internet traffic is continuously growing fast due to the rapid spread of the internet and the speed-up of the internet connection. Also, the applications provided on the internet have become more diversified. To support the QoS requirements for these internet applications, it would be better to measure the traffic volume according to the applications. therefore, we are engaged in the application classification method, which is an offline technique for identifying the applications in units of flow. In some application classification methods, the applications of the target flows are analyzed according to their statistics on traffic metric, or features. We focus on these feature based classification methods, since the methods have the advantage that the port number and the packet payload need not be checked for classification. In the field of the machine learning, the classification methods that consist of multiple classifiers have been discussed. this is why the classification methods are improved in performance. However, the conventional feature based classification methods consists of single classifier. Also, the design of multiple classifiers has hardly been discussed. the design includes the way of combining some classifiers. Here, we introduce the fusion of multiple classifiers and propose applying the score level fusion using feature vectors to concatenate each classifier score to classify the flow into applications. © 2010 IEEE.
