A discrete version of the Ricci flow, applicable to images, is introduced and applied in image denoising and in single-image-based enhancement and super-resolution. this flow is unique among the geometric flows that have been applied in image processing, in that it is the only flow wherein the metric of an image evolves rather than the image itself as is the case in other geometric flows applicable in image processing. the flow is based on the combinatorial Ricci curvature defined by Forman, that was previously introduced by the authors in the context of image processing. It is shown that the Ricci flow preserves image structure much better than the Beltrami flow and other state-of-the-art image enhancement schemes. Implementation of the Ricci flow is applicable also to general surfaces such as required in computergraphics and other applications.

In this paper we propose a novel methodology for rendering a surround sound in a prescribed area using a loudspeaker array, which exploits the early reflections on the walls of the room. With respect to the state of the art, the proposed technique is able to take advantage of the knowledge of the acoustic scene (i.e. room geometry and reflective properties of the walls) in order to reduce undesired wall reflections. Simulative results show that the use of room compensation enables an improved accuracy of the virtual surround.

this paper describes a statistical 3-D digital watermarking method using distributions of distances measured along mesh surfaces. the proposed method employs a mesh propagation procedure called the Fast Marching Method (FMM), which defines regions of equal geodesic distance width calculated with respect to a reference location on the mesh surface. the embedding is performed by statistically changing the normalized distribution of local geodesic distances. Vertices are moved onto the plane of triangles containing the current geodesic front line as generated by the FMM. Such vertex perturbations ensure that the resulting distortions in the 3-D graphics is minimal.

A novel speech enhancement method based on generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) and auditory properties is presented. We show that it is possible to reduce audible speech distortions and preserve residual noise level under system model uncertainties. It can be done by constraining a speech leakage power according to masking effect phenomena. An optimal noise cancellation filter is derived using constrained minimization of the residual noise power. We implemented the GSC structure using a simple delay-and-sum beamformer and corresponding (delays-dependent) blocking matrix. Finally a comparative evaluation of the selected methods is performed using objective speech quality measures. the results show that the novel method outperforms conventional one providing lower speech distortions and comparable noise attenuation.
