With the huge amount of crowd mobility data generated by the explosion of mobile devices, deep neural networks (DNNs) are applied to trajectory data mining and modeling, which make great progresses in those scenarios. However, recent studies have demonstrated that DNNs are highly vulnerable to adversarial examples which are crafted by adding subtle, imperceptible noise to normal examples, and leading to the wrong prediction with high confidence. To improve the robustness of modeling spatiotemporal trajectories via DNNs, we propose a collaborative learning model named 'Auto-GRU', which consists of an autoencoder-based self-representation network (SRN) for robust trajectory feature learning and gated recurrent unit (GRU)-based classification network which shares information with SRN for collaborative learning and strictly defending adversarial examples. Our proposed method performs well in defending both white and black box attacks, especially in black-box attacks, where the performance outperforms state-of-the-art methods. Moreover, extensive experiments on Geolife and Beijing taxi traces datasets demonstrate that the proposed model can improve the robustness against adversarial examples without a significant performance penalty on clean examples. © 2022 IEEE.

Container-based architectures are widely used for cloud computing and can have an important role in the implementation of fog computing infrastructures. However, there are some crucial dependability aspects that must be addressed to make containerization suitable for critical fog applications, e.g., in automation and robotics. This paper discusses challenges in applying containerization at the fog layer, and focuses on one of those challenges: provision of fault-tolerant permanent storage. The paper also presents a container-based fog architecture utilizing so-called storage containers, which combine built-in fault-tolerance mechanisms of containers with a distributed consensus protocol to achieve data consistency.

Complex distributed applications are highly depended on the quality of service of the underlying networks connecting their components. Common approaches for testing these applications may not be sufficient to ensure stability of a distributed system during networking issues. In this paper we try to explore the possibility of using lightweight virtualization for distributed application testing. Our approach is to use a set of tools provided by the Docker containerization platform to build a virtual network model of arbitrary topology with the tested application running inside. We explore scalability of this approach both when using one or more computers for modelling and try to show how the use of the developed simulation system named L3NS can allow developers to test and benchmark large-scale distributed systems e.g. blockchain networks.

In this paper, we propose a way of distributed processing of realtime physics simulations for 3D video games with a large virtual space. The basic idea of the proposed method is to divide a given virtual space into multiple subspaces, and to simulate each subspace with a physics simulator running on a container of virtual environment by assuming that subspaces are sufficiently independent so that each simulation is not affected by the others. In the prototype system we have implemented, the configuration of objects in the subspace allocated to a client is exchanged among hosts every few frames through WebSocket. According to the experiments conducted with the prototype system, it is confirmed that we could achieve a sufficiently high processing speed and high frame rate by bounding the number of objects in each subspace, even if the entire virtual space contains a huge number of virtual objects exceeding 10,000.

Parallel computing is currently the only possible method for providing sufficient performance of large scale urban traffic simulations. The need for representing large areas with detailed, continuous space and motion models exceeds the capabilities of a single computer in terms of performance and memory capacity. Efficient distribution of such computation, which is considered in this paper, poses a challenge due to the need of repetitive synchronization of the common simulation model. We propose an architecture for efficient memory and communication management, which allows executing simulations of huge urban areas and efficient utilization of hundreds of computing nodes. In addition to analyzing performance tests, we also provide general guidelines for designing large-scale distributed simulations.

The Hadoop distributed File System (HDFS) is a robust and flexible file system designed for reliably storing large volumes of data in distributed environments. Its storage model relies upon data replication and one of its central features is to optimize the placement of the replicas across the cluster for fault tolerance, availability, and performance. To this end, the Replica Placement Policy selects which nodes will store the data blocks. This work presents an experimental investigation of the different placement strategies available in HDFS. For a broader analysis, we consider different stages where the placement of the replicas is necessary, such as writing files in the system, re-replicating blocks among the nodes, and balancing the replica distribution in the cluster. The evaluation results allowed a deeper understanding of the behavior of the policies, in addition to highlighting the advantages and drawbacks of the replica placement concerning optimizations in data availability, data locality, write and read throughput, and in the overall performance of the HDFS.

Science ecosystems are being built by federating computing systems and instruments located at geographically distributed sites over wide-area networks. These computing-instrument ecosystems are expected to support complex workflows that incorporate remote, automated AI-driven science experiments. Their realization, however, requires various designs to be explored and software components to be developed, in order to support the orchestration of distributed computations and experiments. It is often too expensive, infeasible, or disruptive for the entire ecosystem to be available during the typically long software development and testing periods. We propose a Virtual Infrastructure Twin (VIT) of the ecosystem that emulates its network and computing components, and incorporates its instrument software simulators. It provides a software environment nearly identical to the ecosystem to support early development and testing, and design space exploration. We present a brief overview of previous digital infrastructure twins that culminated in the VIT concept, including (i) the virtual science network environment for developing software-defined networking solutions, and (ii) the virtual federated science instrument environment for testing the federation software stack and remote instrument control software. We briefly describe VITs for Nion microscope steering and access to GPU systems.

Online voting is the current trend in modern society. It eliminates the usage and printing cost of ballot papers, this technology also reduces the amounts of paperwork, human resources, and time. But it has disadvantages like the security of data and potential attacks such as DoS and DDoS attacks. The best way to solve this security issue is using blockchain technology. The e-voting is expanded with blockchain technology and that could be the solution to mitigate the present concerns in e-voting. In blockchain every block is secured and connected with each other using hashing technology, it protects from being tampered by an unauthorized person. Blockchain technologies offer an infinite range of application benefiting from sharing economies. This study proposes a blockchain-based voting system, named e- Vote that preserves voter privacy and increases accessibility while keeping the voting system transparent, secure, and cost-effective e-Vote. In addition, e-Vote utilizes a few cryptographic techniques, including homomorphic encryption, to promote voter privacy. Proposed implementation was deployed on Ethereum's Test net to demonstrate usability, scalability, and efficiency to evaluate the application of blockchain as a service to implement the distributed electronic voting system. © 2023 IEEE.

Online Social Networks(OSNs) have grown in popularity along with the use of mobile devices and the advancement of network technologies. Every time we experience a wonderful moment in our daily lives, we feel the impulse to capture it on camera and share it on OSNs. Users are frequently hesitated or struggled while sharing photos because photos often contain some privacy. To address this problem, we propose the design, implementation, and evaluation of SmartCircles, a personalized policy recommendation scheme based on attribute analysis. SmartCircles acts as a plugin to existing photo sharing OSNs, and it enables the following: a)extract various factors when users upload their photos, b)calculate the intimacy of photos and users according to extracted factors, c)calculate profit and loss, and recommend optimal policy by trade-off them. We have implemented a prototype of SmartCircles, and evaluation results have demonstrated its effectiveness and efficiency, the accuracy rate of strategy recommendations can reach about 90%. © 2022 IEEE.
