three-dimensional (3D) transformations are a fundamental concept in computergraphics and are used for modelling, view transformations, animation, and efficient rendering. Understanding 3D transformations can be difficult, since they typically involve geometric concepts, mathematics, specific programming constructs (e.g. using graphics APIs), and visuospatial skills. While previous research investigated students' problems with geometry in mathematics courses, we did not find any research investigating teaching and learning of 3D transformations in computergraphics. In this paper, we use historical data from eleven years of exam results to analyse the relationship between question difficulty and the dimension, representation, and complexity of a transformation. Our results suggest that the difficulty of a question is predominantly determined by the way students need to apply concepts to find a solution, rather than the concepts tested. We did not find a statistically significant difference for the spatial dimension used in a question (2D vs. 3D). However, we observed that the representation used for formulating the question did matter and many students seemed to struggle with interpreting images of 3D scenes. We suggest that many students lack spatial reasoning skills to interpret images of 3D transformations and to make suitable mental models. this is likely to impede learning and might produce inequities in the assessment. We discuss implications of our research on teaching and assessment of 3D transformations in computergraphics.

In this paper, we propose a novel U-System-based approach for representing and matching similar shapes. U-system is a complete orthogonal piecewise k-degree polynomials in L-2 [0,1] and it has some good properties, such as regeneration, convergence by group. Using U-system with finite items, it can be realized to accurate representation of shapes. this paper make shapes analysis in theory. We experimentally demonstrate that U descriptors are more suitable for representing and matching 2D shapes than Fourier descriptors.

this paper presents a novel skeleton-based method for deforming meshes, based on an approximate skeleton. the major difference from previous skeleton-based methods is that they used the skeleton to control movement of vertices, whereas we use it to control the simplices defining the model. this allows errors, that occur near joints in other methods, to be spread over the whole mesh, giving smooth transitions near joints. Our method also needs no vertex weights defined on the bones, which can be tedious to choose in previous methods.

the modem design concept is focused on the life - cycle, such that all the aspects of the designed systems, and the corresponding dependencies are considered. these conditions are fulfilled by the concurrent engineering (CE) approach that creates a new context for design and management according to which the life - cycle design is performed by functional and disciplinary heterogeneous teams. thus, results a new concept for computer aided design (CAD) that must support system's life-cycle analysis and design. Defining the CE context for electronics, the present paper determines the main elements of the CE-CAD concept, and the basic functional architecture of the corresponding environment in creating a total product design, highlighting, as a result, the concept of virtual 'world' distributed manufacturing enterprise.

the Wang Tiles method is a successful and effective technique for the representation of 2D-texture or 3D-geometry. In this paper we present a new method to fill Wang tiles with a 2D-FCN distribution or a 3D-geometry in order to achieve a more efficient runtime. We extend the Wang Tiles method to include information about their position. We further demonstrate how the individual tiles are filled with different intensities by using the FON distribution. Additionally, we present several new methods to eliminate errors between the tile edges and the different resource areas applying FON and corners relaxation techniques.

Contemporary trend of education in such a traditional field as technology needs the use of modern tools of learning - Internet, email, multimedia, remote access, animation and interactive work. One of important goals in teaching of electro-technology is understanding of technological process. However, it is not possible to demonstrate all technological processes at the laboratory conditions. the computer simulation can obtain primary knowledge of the technological processes of such the type. We use Macromedia FLASH for this purpose. this software tool is determined for creating of Web based animations on Internet or intranet networks. Professional animations, which show principles of the technological processes, can be created this way, too. the power and flexibility of Flash is ideal for our own creativity.

this panel will address the technical, economic and marketing hurdles that inhibit the widespread use of cloth/clothing modeling, design and animation technology. Many of the fundamental technologies needed to support cloth modeling have already been developed. Still, we do not see computer-animated characters wearing realistic clothing, and clothing designers are not creating new fashions withcomputer-based 3-D design systems. the CAD industry is capable of providing the systems for designing the Boeing 777, but almost none of the clothing we wear is designed with 3-D CAD tools. the panel will explore the reasons that the design of cloth and clothing, a material that has been a part of the human experience for thousands of years, has not yet been fully computerized.
