this paper proposes an accurate metric for image-based 3d reconstruction without ground truth. Specially, our metric is insensitive to texture changing and shadows, which are commonly occurred in real world scenes. Based on the inter-reflected rendering model, we improve the accuracy of previous irradiance-based metric. Additionally, we estimate the reflectance of each vertex on the surface to support the case with varying reflectance. We also consider the difference between estimated and observed irradiance in our metric to further eliminate the boundary effect of texture changing or self-shadow. Experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets illustrate the effectiveness of our metric. Our evaluation results are not only more accurate than the results of previous metrics, but also insensitive to the texture and shadow.

the circuit module design is one of the most important topics in electronic education. During their study, students have to design, simulate, realize and document a functional circuit. the education includes lectures and laboratory exercises. On the lectures the students will get acquainted withthe design rules and the use of the OrCAD software. the lecturer uses PC-projector for PowerPoint show and for the CAD program, overhead projector and the traditional blackboard. the topic of lectures gives an introduction to the computer aided design and a guide to the use of familiar OrCAD software. the first enclosing of CAD systems shows the place of the available tools in the design flow, and lets the students know the tasks that have to be fulfilled during the design. CAD systems are helpful tools to make the human work easier, but the role of human task is always accentuated. Design begins with an idea and defining the function of the circuit. After that there are a sequence of tasks that have to be finished before the manufacturing. To complete them, databases and some supplemental works are required. the students learn how to use the CAD, how to get the required supplemental information for their work and finally they build their own circuit.

In this paper, the design of parallel fuzzy logic sliding-mode controller (FSMC) for the spring-linked cartpole system is examined. Two FSMCs are developed to make the vertical pole always upright and regulate the cart's position even a spring is linked to the pole. the feasibility and robustness of the proposed scheme are illustrated by computer simulations and real experiments.

there is substantial interest in using SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) in distributed applications' inter-process communications due to its promise of universal interoperability. the utility of SOAP is limited, however by its inefficient implementation. Our research aims to make SOAP useful for high end or resource-constrained applications. the resulting SOAP-bin communication protocol exhibits substantially improved performance compared to regular SOAP communications. Gains are particularly evident when the same types of parameters are exchanged repeatedly, examples including transactional applications, remote graphics or visualization, and distributed scientific codes. A further improvement to SOAP-bin, termed SOAP-binQ, addresses resource-constrained applications like distributed media codes, where scarce communication bandwidth, for example, may prevent end users from interacting in real-time. SOAP-binQ offers quality management functions that permit SOAP to reduce parameter sizes dynamically, as and when needed. the methods used in size reduction are provided by end users and/or by applications, thereby enabling domain-specific tradeoffs in quality vs. performance. An adaptive use of SOAP-binQ's quality management techniques presented in this paper significantly reduces the jitter experienced in two sample applications like remote sensing and remote visualization.

the challenges engineering educators face in using the computer as an increasingly important tool in an academic curriculum constrained by shrinking resources, are discussed. In a case study, the Manufacturing and Plastics Engineering Technology programs at Western Washington University have integrated the computer as a tool throughout the curriculum. Students enter the program by taking two courses in engineering graphicsthat emphasize more sketching and solids modeling than traditional graphics. Sophomore students complete a computer aided engineering (CAE) tools course which they use to complete assignments and projects in other classes. Finite element analysis (FEA) is introduced in the junior year. Senior projects use FEA, injection mold analysis, project planning and database tools. Cost reductions are possible withthe PC-based platforms. this paper discusses the courses involved and how the computer as a tool has been integrated into each course.
