3D scatter plots depicting massive data suffer from occlusion, which makes it difficult to get an overview and perceive structure. this paper presents a technique that facilitates the comprehension of heavily occluded 3D scatter plots. Data points are projected to axial planes, creating x-ray-like 2D views that support the user in analyzing the data's density and layout. We showcase our open-source web application with a hardware-accelerated rendering component written in WebGL. It allows for interactive interaction, filtering, and navigation with datasets up to hundreds of thousands of nodes. the implementation is detailed and discussed with respect to challenges posed by API and performance limitations. © 2022 ACM.

computer games, often played with others, are a compelling pastime for many. However, they have been criticized for their mouse and keyboard or gamepad interactions, as they support a sedentary lifestyle. In contrast, a "hand exerciser" handgrip device can help strengthen hand and forearm muscles extensively through a simple spring mechanism. Our system "mousegrip" is an exertion interface to control computer applications while simultaneously exercising hand and arm muscles based on a handgrip device. We present a casual game of pong for two distributed players who control the game with a mousegrip each, demonstrating a low-cost approach to "exertion interactions over a distance". By showing how easy it can be to include exertion in interactions with computers, we hope to encourage other researchers and designers to consider exertion activity in their designs in order to support a healthy lifestyle.

Acupuncture is the kernel of traditional Chinese medicine and is nowadays being accepted by the whole world. the precise orientation of the points and meridian is important in acupuncture while it is difficult to be done via the 2-dimension pictures. So the 3D interactive exhibition is undoubtedly superior to the traditional 2D way. A Web3D technology Cult3D and its advantages in contrast to VRML are presented. the implementation process of interactive human point exhibition by using Cult3D is discussed in detail. A primary attempt of expressing the knowledge system of meridian more intuitionisticly is made. © 2005 IEEE.

Many graph drawing applications entail geographical constraints on positions of vertices;these constraints can be at odds with aesthetic requirements such as the use of straight-line edges or the number of crossings. Without positional constraints on vertices, of course, every planar graph can be drawn crossing-free with straight-line edges. On the other hand, inflexible and precise specification of all vertex positions essentially leaves no room for presenting the graph in an aesthetically pleasing drawing. However, small deviations from precise vertex positions can often be tolerated, and so a natural middle ground is to impose soft positional constraints on vertices and then optimize for an appropriate aesthetic criterion. We explore one such trade-off: the amount of vertex position displacement vs. the number of bends in planar polyline drawings. In particular, let G = (V,E) be a planar graph, where each vertex v has a specified (target) position-(v). We wish to draw G so that no vertex is placed at distance more than- from its target position and no edge has more than b bends. Given a bound on b, what is the smallest value of- achievable for all n-vertex planar graphs? Our main result establishes that- =-(n) is both necessary and sufficient if b is constant. Symmetric dense Eigen value problems arise in many scientific and engineering simulations. In this paper, we use GPUs to accelerate its main computational kernel, the tridiagonalization of a dense symmetric matrix on a distributed multicore architecture. We then study the performance of this hybrid message-passing/shared-memory/GPU-computing paradigm on up to 16 compute nodes, each of which consists of 16 Intel Sandy Bridge processors and three NVIDIA GPUs. these studies show that such a hybrid paradigm can exploit the underlying hardware architecture and obtain significant speedups over a flat message-passing paradigm can, and they demonstrate a potential of efficiently solving large-scale Eigen value problems on a GPU cluster. Furthermore, these studies may provide insights on the general effects of such hybrid paradigms on emerging high-performance computers. © 2013 IEEE.

Control system design packages like MATLAB, MATRIXx, Control C, SIMNON, etc. have become essential ingredients of both undergraduate and graduate courses in the systems and controls area. this work describes our experience, at the Great Valley Campus of the Pennsylvania State University and the University of Arkansas, with the use of one of these packages, namely MATLAB with its Control Systems, Robust Control and LMI toolboxes in an optimal control course. In this paper we will describe those standard functions of MATLAB and Control Systems Toolbox that are most appropriate for use in an optimal control course. Next, we will focus on some special features of MATLAB that can be used to produce interactive simulations, using user interface controls. With the help of interactive simulations instructors can effectively illustrate the change in system response due to parameter variations. Examples illustrating these features are included. A discussion of how MATLAB helps in reducing the amount of time spent in performing computational homework assignments and the advantages of using graphics user interface control will follow. Finally, the general positive student reaction will be reported.
