Learning is a fundamental part of daily life across all ages. Educators and researchers continually seek new approaches to enhance its efficiency and overall experience. therefore, knowledge transfer has been a well researched topic for several decades. One approach that has gained prominence is the use of Storytelling. Edge computing has been introduced to expand the deployment of modular software to the Cloud with machines that are located close to end-users’ devices. Due to hardware and software restrictions on the capabilities of machines at the Edge, the deployment of modular software to machines at the Edge is not always feasible. there are various approaches in the literature that focus on how to produce Edge-eligible deployment plans for modular software. these plans map components of modular software to machines that meet the requirements of the components for hardware and software capabilities of machines. We extract from the existing approaches a pattern that produces Edge-eligible deployment plans via comparing the hardware and software requirements of modular software against the hardware and software capabilities of machines at the Edge (possibly extended with machines at the Cloud). © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). the effectiveness of mutation testing depends heavily on the types of faults that the mutation operators are designed to represent. thus, the quality of the mutation operators is key to mutation testing. Although, mutation operators for object-oriented languages have previously been presented, little research has been done to show the usefulness of the class mutation operators. To assess the usefulness of class mutation operators, we conducted two empirical studies. In the first study, we examine the number and kinds of mutants that are generated for object-oriented programs. In the second study, we investigate the way in which class mutation operators model faults that are not detected by traditional mutation testing. We conducted our studies using a well-known object-oriented system, BCEL.

In July 2023 a unique interdisciplinary workshop brought together leading researchers and practitioners in the emerging field of hybrid learning and working, utilizing design patterns to explore the promises and dilemmas it raises from social, methodological, pedagogic, spatial and technological perspectives. this report presents the results of a pattern workshop on Future Hybrid Creative Spaces (FHCS), held at Irsee in Germany as part of the EuroPLoP 2023 conference. During the first half of the workshop, a group of experts gathered to share their real-world experiences related to various design issues of hybrid creative spaces (i.e. spatial design, pedagogy, and social interaction). In the second half of the workshop, a different group of experts started with reorganizing the selected patterns (from physical, hybrid and digital space domains) by their "creative affordance". Based on the shared "creative affordance", new "hybrid patterns" were created using selected patterns from physical and digital spaces. As a result, the experts proposed 13 new hybrid patterns and identified the most important affordances that make a working or learning environment "creative". © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

In this paper, we report on the development of a language which is especially tailored to the specification and simulation of microprocessor operations and parallel instructions. the approach is rigorous, and it combines the naturalness and readability of the traditional pseudocode with the formality and rigour of instruction specifications in the programming language C (but without the disadvantages of the latter). the underlying semantic model has been formalized by the equations of an appropriate denotational semantic model. the specifications can be used for a variety of purposes, such as the generation of a data book and other on-line documentation, the generation of a simulator that allows functional testing of programs even before the hardware has been designed and implemented, and the generation of a test suite to perform functional tests of a given design or real chip.

Graphs play a major role in many applications in business, science, and social sciences allowing modeling and analysis of interactions among objects and their structural relationships. the recent push for analytical methods to study inter-object associations in these domains has resulted in many interesting algorithms such as page rank and random walk, and systems such as TALE, SUMMA, QuickSI and C-Tree. While these algorithms address different aspects of graph analysis with varying degrees of effectiveness, their focus is not on declarative querying of graphs except GraphQL and IsoSearch. However, the first-order framework on which both GraphQL and IsoSearch are based does not allow for many queries of interest. In this paper, we argue that this limitation may be, at least partially, removed by implementing novel graph operators for relational databases. We present the idea of minimum hub covers as a basis for a compact and non-redundant representation of graphs in nested relational databases, and leverage this representation, called g-relations, toward graph operator implementation for graph isomorphisms and graph comparisons. this is an ongoing research and hence, depicts partial results. © 2012 IEEE.

the smoothness hypothesis is critical for graph-based semi-supervised learning. this paper defines local smoothness, based on which a new algorithm, Reliable Label Inference via Smoothness Hypothesis (ReLISH is proposed. ReLISH has produced smoother labels than some existing methods for both labeled and unlabeled examples. theoretical analyses demonstrate good stability and generalizability of Re! ASH. Using real-world datasets, our empirical analyses reveal that ReLISH is promising for both transductive and inductive tasks, When compared with representative algorithms, including Harmonic Functions, Local and Global Consistency, Constraint Metric Learning, Linear Neighborhood Propagation, and Manifold Regularization.

Context. Features and styles inspired by functional programming have grown in popularity in the world of object-oriented programming. Immutability is a core concept of functional programming, which brings advantages to software development. However, introducing immutability in object-oriented programming presents some challenges. Problem. One of these challenges is method overriding. When inheriting non-destructive mutators (methods used on immutable objects which return a new object instead of modifying the receiver), a naive approach generates code duplication and has scalability issues. Contribution. We analyse an example of this overriding problem and propose a solution in a new design pattern based on the factory method pattern. We also discuss the advantages and limitations of this pattern, as well as implementations in Clojure, Java, and Kotlin. We also identify and discuss the language features that mostly affect the implementation of this pattern. Conclusion. Our proposed design pattern helps mitigate some of the code duplication and scalability problems of a naive approach. However, the inclusion of a functional updating language feature is required to completely remove the scalability issues. © 2023 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). patterns and pattern catalogs (pattern languages) have been proposed as a mechanism for re-use. Traditionally, patterns have been used to foster design re-use, and generative design patterns have been used to achieve both design and code re-use. In theory, a pattern catalog could be created and used to provide re-usable patterns within a project and across a group of related projects. this idea raises a natural question. How can we measure the effectiveness of a pattern catalog or compare the effectiveness of different pattern catalogs? In this paper, we define four metrics that can be used to measure the effectiveness of pattern catalogs. We illustrate these metrics by applying them to a case study that uses a pattern catalog of generative design patterns to generate scripting code for computer games. the metrics are general enough to assess any pattern catalog, independent of application domain or whether the patterns are generative or descriptive.
