The web has matured as a publishing platform: news outlets regularly publish rich, interactive stories while technical writers use animation and interaction to communicate complex ideas. This style of interactive media has the potential to engage a large audience and more clearly explain concepts, but is expensive and time consuming to produce. Drawing on industry experience and interviews with domain experts, we contribute design tools to make it easier to author and publish interactive articles. We introduce Idyll, a novel "compile-to-the-web" language for web-based interactive narratives. Idyll implements a flexible article model, allowing authors control over document style and layout, reader-driven events (such as button clicks and scroll triggers), and a structured interface to JavaScript components. Through both examples and first-use results from undergraduate computer science students, we show how Idyll reduces the amount of effort and custom code required to create interactive articles.

AspectAG is a domain specific language embedded in Haskell to represent modular attribute grammars. In AspectAG attribute grammar fragments can be defined independently (even in separate modules) and then combined in a safe way. This flexibility is achieved through the use of extensible records, which are implemented using type-level programming techniques. Type-level programming support has remarkably evolved in Haskell since the first version of AspectAG was designed;having incorporated new features like data promotion and kind polymorphism, among others, which allows to program in a "strongly typed"way at the level of types in a similar way as when programming at the level of values. In this paper we redefine AspectAG applying the new type-level programming techniques. As a consequence, we obtain a more robust system with better error messages. © 2019 ACM.

The article shows the relevance of using digital twins. The authors have embodied individual technical elements of the digital twin concept and demonstrated the successful results of their application. The work shows predictive analysis, technologies of the industrial Internet of things and cloud distributed control systems. The section of the industrial Internet of things demonstrates the use of a system of interconnected computer networks and connected industrial (production) facilities. This technology is used to monitor and control the condition of process equipment. The section with predictive analysis shows the possibility of using the accumulated data in the implementation of mathematical models and their use for practical purposes, for example, predicting the state of an object. The section of cloud distributed control systems shows the possibility of effectively implementing the functions of distributed control systems and the functions of operators for managing continuous processes in the cloud infrastructure and integration with the IIoT architecture. The conclusion shows the prospect of using a fully functional digital twin, against the background of the successful implementation of its individual parts. © 2020 Danube Adria Association for Automation and Manufacturing, DAAAM. Managing next-gen applications over Fog computing infrastructures is challenging and calls for new methodologies and tools that enable flexible, scalable and application-specific management along the Cloud-IoT continuum. This article proposes a novel approach for realising a fully decentralised application management in opportunistic Fog computing infrastructures. We present a Prolog implementation of the approach and assess it over some motivating scenarios by experimenting with three different management policies via simulation. © 2020 IEEE.

Mavo is a small extension to the HTML language that empowers non-programmers to create simple web applications. Authors can mark up any normal HTML document with attributes that specify data elements that Mavo makes editable and persists. But while applications authored with Mavo allow users to edit individual data items, they do not offer any programmatic data actions that can act in customizable ways on large collections of data simultaneously or that modify data according to a computation. We explore an extension to the Mavo language that enables non-programmers to author these richer data update actions. We show that it lets authors create a more powerful set of applications than they could previously, while adding little additional complexity to the authoring process. Through user evaluations, we assess how closely our data update syntax matches how novice authors would instinctively express such actions, and how well they are able to use the syntax we provided.

High-resolution satellite imagery has been regarded as one of important datasets to analyze urban environment composed of complex features. In this study, texture-based image analysis was applied to characterize urban features for regional planning, and firstly new implementation with user interface and main algorithms for this purpose was performed for texture image generation and wavelet image processing. As for quantitative texture analysis in the spatial domain, extraction and imaging of texture parameters based on GLCM (Grey Level Co-occurrence Matrix) was used: Homogeneity, Dissimilarity, Energy, Entrophy, ASM (Angular Second Moment), and Contrast. Results obtained by texture analysis in the frequency domain based on wavelet image processing framework provide useful indicator to delineate complex features within urban transportation environment. Through this study, experiment cases with actual satellite imagery such as KOMPSAT-EOC (6.6 M) were carried out to demonstrate and characterize complex types of urban features for regional planning, respectively. In urban remote sensing application with highresolution imagery, it is concluded that these approaches based on integrated texture analysis in the both domain can be considered as one of practical application schemes for further multi-layer classification and recognition.

The growing of the Internet has emphasized the need for interoperability among different and heterogeneous systems, i.e. their ability to exchange data and services in a transparent way. This article addresses interoperability in a GIs context where systems, historically monolithics, need to exchange spatial data. The work is based on the models proposed by the OpenGIS Consortium, whose mission is the unification of spatial data models and services in order to achieve interoperability among GtSs. The paper faces the problems connected with the interoperability at direrent levels of abstraction. At the highest level (the spatial data on the Internet) a set of common interfaces are adopted to represent both data and services;at the bottom level (database level), the concept of a specialized sewer (called OGIS/SQL server) is introduced, which is the entity that tries to obtain data integration among the data sets. This paper discusses, also, an implementation of a JavaRMI-based application, that allows different and web distributed data sets to be interconnected. The architecture of the application is made up of two direrent relational databases (one stores rivers and the other cities), a distributed object (representing the origin of its own spatial reference system), and a client that acquires (by query) spatial data from the previous mentioned spatial data sources, stores them in a local database and then visualizes the result. © 1999 IEEE.

This paper presents the implementation of an efficient interpreter for a Scheme-like language using manually written *** code. The *** specification defines an optimizable subset of JavaScript which has already served well as a compilation target for web applications where performance is critical. However, its usage as a human-writable language that can be integrated into existing projects to improve performance has remained largely unexplored. We therefore apply this strategy to optimize the implementation of an interpreter. We also discuss the feasibility of this approach, as writing *** by hand is generally not its recommended use-case. We therefore present a macro system to solve the challenges we encounter. The resulting interpreter is compared to the original C implementation and its compiled equivalent in ***. This way, we evaluate whether manual integration with *** provides the necessary performance to bring larger applications and runtimes to the web. © 2016 ACM.

'How to' manuals help potential users with deploying and understanding software technologies such as web applications or servers. In a domain analysis, we survey existing 'how to' manuals to assess the feasibility of making the manuals executable and to derive a suggestion for domainspecific language support. We realize a DSL for executable 'how to' manuals and refer to the approach as 'literate deployment scripting', as it is inspired by literate programming in that all the code for deployment and configuration is embedded into its documentation. This includes code (or commands) for an initial deployment or changes to a deployed software system. © 2016 ACM.
