Cloud computing offers advantages such as seamless scalability and speedup of computation. Nevertheless, these benefits come with notable tradeoffs, e.g., processing sensitive data without compromising security. Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) solves this by processing of encrypted data. In this work, we develop an FHE hardware accelerator that uses a custom control interface to maximally utilize the bandwidth of HBM, following the memory access patterns of FHE. © 2024 IEEE.

Virtual Reality (VR) is an emerging technique that provides a unique real-time experience for users. VR technologies have provided revolutionary user experiences in various scenarios (e.g., training, education, gaming, etc.). However, testing VR applications is challenging due to their nature which necessitates physical interactivity, and their reliance on specific hardware systems. Despite the recent advancements in VR technology and its usage scenarios, we still know little about VR application testing. To fill up this knowledge gap, we performed an empirical study on 314 open-source VR applications. Our analysis identified that 79% of the VR projects evaluated did not have any automatic tests, and for the VR projects that did, the median functional-method to test-method ratios were lower than those of other project types. Moreover, we uncovered tool support issues concerning the measurement of VR code coverage, and the assertion density results we were able to generate were relatively low, with an average of 17.63%. Finally, through a manual analysis of 370 test cases, we identified the different categories of test cases being used to validate VR application quality attributes. Furthermore, we extracted which of these categories are VR-attention, meaning that test writers need to pay special attention to VR characteristics when writing tests of these categories. We believe that our findings constitute a call to action for the VR development community to improve their automatic testing practices and provide directions for software engineering researchers to develop advanced techniques for automatic test case generation and test quality analysis for VR applications. Internet of Things (IoT) has become prevalent in various fields, especially in the context of home automation (HA). To better control HA-IoT devices, especially to integrate several devices for rich smart functionalities, trigger-action programming, such as the If This Then That (IFTTT), has become a popular paradigm. Leveraging it, novice users can easily specify their intent in applets regarding how to control a device/service through another once a specific condition is met. Nevertheless, the users may design IFTTT-style integrations inappropriately, due to lack of security experience or unawareness of the security impact of cyber-attacks against individual devices. This has caused financial loss, privacy leakage, unauthorized access and other security issues. To address these problems, this work proposes a systematic framework named MEDIC to model smart home integrations and check their security. It automatically generates models incorporating the service/device behaviors and action rules of the applets, while taking into consideration the external attacks and in-device vulnerabilities. Our approach takes around one second to complete the modeling and checking of one integration. We carried out experiments based on 200 integrations created from a user study and a dataset crawled from ***. To our great surprise, nearly 83% of these integrations have security issues.

Digital technologies play a growing role in exacerbating financial abuse for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV). While abusers of IPV rarely employ advanced technological attacks that go beyond interacting via standard user interfaces, scant research has examined how consumer-facing financial technologies can facilitate or obstruct IPV-related attacks on a survivor's financial well-being. Through an audit of 13 mobile banking and 17 peer-to-peer payment smartphone applications and their associated usage policies, we simulated both close-range and remote attacks commonly used by IPV adversaries. We discover that mobile banking and peer-to-peer payment applications are generally ill-equipped to deal with user-interface bound (UI-bound) adversaries, permitting unauthorized access to logins, surreptitious surveillance, and, harassing messages and system prompts. To assess our discoveries, we interviewed 12 financial professionals who offer or oversee frontline services for vulnerable customers. While professionals expressed an interest in implementing mitigation strategies, they also highlight barriers to institutional approaches to intimate threats, and question professional responsibilities for digital safety. We conclude by providing recommendations for how digital financial service providers may better address UI-bound threats, and offer broader considerations for professional auditing and evaluation approaches to technology-facilitated abuse.

The increasing adoption of confidential computing is providing individual users with a more seamless interaction with numerous mobile and server devices. TrustZone is a promising security technology for the use of partitioning sensitive private data into a trusted execution environment (TEE). Unfortunately, third-party developers have limited accessibility to TrustZone. This is because TEE vendors need to validate such security applications to preserve their security rigorously. Moreover, TrustZone-based systems suffer from vulnerabilities affecting Trusted App and trusted OS, possibly causing the entire system to be compromised. Advanced virtualization-based TEE introduced in the recently new concept of Confidential Compute Architecture (CCA) creates a new physical address space called Realm world for confidential computing to protect the data confidentiality and integrity. The current version of CCA primarily targets the VM level in the Realm world and does not provide user-level isolated environments. To fill up this gap, we present SHELTER, which is a complement to CCA's primary Realm VM-style architecture. SHELTER allows thirdparty developers to deploy their applications with isolation in userspace. SHELTER is designed by cooperating with Arm CCA hardware primitive available in Armv9.2 to provide hardware-based isolation while removing the need for software workloads to trust their data to a Host OS, hypervisor, or privileged software (e.g., trusted OS, Secure/Realm hypervisor). We have implemented and evaluated SHELTER, and the results demonstrated that SHELTER guarantees the security of applications with a modest performance overhead (<15%) on real-world workloads.

Bodily play, which is a productive social interaction for bonding social relationships, has positive impacts on self-efficacy, acute cognitive benefit, and emotion. However, most bodily play encourages players to enjoy their own experiences. There are limited researches on sharing players' perspectives to enhance players' empathy for understanding others. Thus, we propose an asymmetric two-person game in an immersive environment. This bodily play, which supports perspective-taking via the integration with the first- and second-perspectives, has a collaborative interface that allows users to share their physiological and emotional perspectives. Initial testing of the system shows that players can not only understand well the feeling and problems encountered by each other through sharing perspectives and information but also increases the social closeness of players and stimulates empathy after the interplay.

Generic, type-driven web-based editors have been an integral feature of the iTask Framework (iTasks) since its conception, and even predate it in the form of the iData library. Generic editors enable rapid prototyping, because they allow the generation of graphical user interfaces from any first-order type. As applications mature, the need for increased control over the look and feel of editors arises. This can be accomplished by creating customised editors. Unfortunately defining custom editors is no trivial task in iTasks. The interface for creating custom editors from scratch is sufficiently powerful, but exposes many implementation details that make it complicated to use. In this paper we present a new interface and composition API for editors in iTasks. This new approach is based on an asymmetric typed interface for editors with separate type parameters for data that is consumed by, and data that is produced by, the web editors. We demonstrate the new possibilities by reconstructing a previously builtin editor as a composition of simpler editors and various other examples.
