Environmental perception, including object recognition and distance estimation, is a crucial aspect in the field of computer vision. Although distance estimation has received relatively less attention compared to object recognition, its accuracy becomes particularly crucial in specific scenarios, such as when ships are entering ports or gates. In such situations, precise distance control is essential, as errors could lead to the risk of collisions between the ship and the dock. Due to significant variations in the sizes of ships, traditional distance estimation methods often exhibit substantial errors. To mitigate these inaccuracies, this paper proposes a self-Adaptive ship size estimation approach. In addition to introducing an adaptive model, we further design a distance estimation model incorporating tilt information to enhance the accuracy of distance estimation, especially for objects closer to the camera. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in improving the accuracy of distance measurements, particularly in overhead perspectives. © 2023 IEEE.

Optimizing scene management and reducing rendering data are key to improving efficiency in the virtual real interaction of the metaverse. Using Morton codes to map three-dimensional spatial data into a linear number list, achieving reasonable partitioning of large-scale grids, and making improvements according to the needs of the metaverse. By using a hierarchical construction approach and utilizing the Morton code based BVH for coarse segmentation, combined with KD Tree for further segmentation, efficient scene partitioning is achieved. On this basis, focus on local adaptive removal of key areas to improve the running frame rate of digital twin scenes. Through this series of methods, unnecessary visibility analysis or deep query operations can be reduced while reducing scene state changes in each frame, thereby improving computer rendering efficiency and providing strong support for virtual real interaction in the metaverse. © 2024 SPIE.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) have the ability to actively control wave propagation through space, enabling the creation of Programmable Wireless Environments (PWEs). This capability allows for the uti-lization and control of previously unexploited resources. However, there is a notable gap in allocating these resources to network users in a way that aligns with the pricing policies of telecommunications stakeholders. This paper considers RIS elements as network resources and describes a pricing policy that links the PWE efficiency of individual users to an optimal method for sharing RIS elements. A specialized policy tailored to this purpose, is designed with a focus on robustness, ensuring its applicability across various RIS functionalities and frequency bands. Its computational efficiency further underscores its viability for deployment in practical scenarios. © 2024 IEEE.

Proposed a method for calculating the area of road diseases using a monocular camera. The camera and the road plane are calibrated to obtain the mapping relationship between pixel points and spatial points;the Mask R-CNN is used to detect and segment the road disease;the inverse perspective transformation is used to convert the target image into a bird’s-eye view to obtain the relationship between the pixel scale and the real scale;binarize the bird’s-eye view according to the segmentation effect, and the area of the road disease could be obtained through calculating the number of target pixels. It has been verified that the calculation error of the algorithm is about 2.1675% in the near vicinity. © 2023 SPIE.

The past several years have seen a lot of activity in the field of gender classification research. For a wide range of tasks including surveillance, computer vision, human-computer interaction, and traffic monitoring, gender classification is essential. The traditional approach used to classify gender has a number of drawbacks and is insufficient when used with live images. However, gender classification is just one of several computer vision applications where deep learning algorithms have demonstrated their potential. CNNs are capable of automatic feature generation and provide data insight which is used for efficient classification. In this paper, a special class of pre-trained CNN, called EfficientNet is proposed for automatic gender classification from input image. The experiment is carried out using a dataset with 58,700 images categorized into male and female. The performance of EfficientNet-B0 is also compared with other benchmark pre-trained CNN models i.e. VGG16, ResNet50 and DenseNet. The Precision, Recall and F1-Score values achieved for EfficientNet-BO are 96.80%, 96.60% and 96.88% respectively. © 2023 IEEE.

Due to the complex working environment of the pipeline, the collected pipeline signals contain a lot of noise signals, which seriously affects the extraction of pipeline signals. A denoising method based on improved INGO-VMD joint energy entropy in this paper. First of all, The VMD parameters were optimized by the improved Northern Goshawk algorithm, then a variational mode decomposition is carried out on the noisy signal. Finally, the boundary line between noise and signal is determined according to energy entropy, and the signal is reconstructed to the denoised signal is obtained. The results can see the proposed method has the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 24.22dB. The RMSE error is the lowest, 0.079. It is proved that the method not only can filter noise signal, but also has better noise reduction effect and stability. © 2024 SPIE.

Air conditioning and refrigeration plant rooms have always been at risk of equipment damage and energy wastage due to water leakage faults. At present, only manual methods of water leakage fault detection, especially in the dark light environment, are obviously unable to avoid the potential risks. In this paper, we propose an improved algorithm YOLO-SEE (SENet+EIOU) based on computer vision technology to identify water leakage faults in potential leakage areas of air conditioning and refrigeration plant rooms under different lighting environments to reduce the risk of subsequent damage caused by faults. The self-made water leakage dataset of refrigeration plant rooms has 2485 images, the attention mechanism SENet is inserted into the backbone part of the model to improve the feature extraction ability of the model, the loss function EIOU is improved to increase the convergence speed of the model and provide better location results, and the performance of the algorithm is validated by comparing the algorithms such as SSD, YOLOv5s and etc. on the test set. The experimental results show that the improved YOLO-SEE algorithm achieves an average precision of 88.9% for water leakage detection in air-conditioning and refrigeration plant rooms, and still ensures the accuracy and real-time performance under different lighting environments, which can meet the needs of real-time monitoring of water leakage faults in actual refrigeration plant rooms. © 2023 IEEE.

In the field of autonomous driving, vision-based environmental perception methods usually use monocular or multi-ocular cameras to capture images, and use computer vision technology to analyze images to complete perceptual tasks such as object recognition, target detection and tracking, semantic segmentation, three-dimensional reconstruction, and distance measurement. Where there is a lack of prior knowledge or relational structure, the application of existing methods is limited. A method for calculating similarity matching between azimuth and polarity eigenvectors of components is proposed, and 5 defects of common components are accurately detected. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can quickly and accurately locate and identify PCB components, and effectively detect the defects of different components of the circuit board, because information is only passed between tightly connected nodes, this approach fails to capture novel interactions between distant nodes. The way to solve this limitation is to introduce an attention layer with induced sparsity to find. Therefore, based on specific projects in the laboratory, this paper conducts in-depth research on the visual environment perception for automatic driving in complex environments, aiming at the actual needs of intelligent unmanned units for automatic driving on complex off-road road conditions, and the problems such as low accuracy and insufficient robustness of existing algorithms. © 2024 SPIE.

Humans frequently communicate effectively using their faces in addition to their words. The use of computer vision techniques to categorize face emotion has been extensively studied. Given the difficulties and restrictions of databases, such as the use of static data or facial capture in artificial contexts, these have had different degrees of success. As a result, we think that novel preprocessing methods are necessary to increase the precision of facial expression detection models. In this study, we suggest a novel, yet straightforward, approach to improving the precision of face emotion identification. Our research was done using the FER2013 dataset, which includes static facial photos of 7 basic emotions. Resizing and Normalization image preprocessing techniques were applied on the dataset prior to the splitting into train and test sets. The training images were split into train and test sets in the ratios of 75% and 25% respectively. The facial expressions in the photos were classified using Convolution Neural Networks [CNNs], with an accuracy of 76.75% on the test set. © 2023 IEEE.

With an increasing number of on-road vehicles, there is an increasing need to save time for drivers and travelers without waiting in long lines or stop at every toll booth. This research study intends to develop an upgraded FasTag system, which eliminates the need for toll booths. The proposed automated toll collection system is developed by using vehicle number recognition, which reads vehicle license plates from images using OpenCV and Tesseract OCR Engine. This can be accomplished via human agents or highly advanced smart technology that recognizes automobiles in real-time environment based on the license plates. The proposed technology detects number plates, identifies the vehicle based on the license plate number, and then sends the appropriate toll amount as an SMS to the car owner for payment purpose. © 2023 IEEE.
