A novel wideband digital predistortion (DPD) technique that can relax the requirement for sampling frequency is proposed. the proposed band-split parallel signal processing DPD can reduce the sampling frequency to the half of normal DPD while compensating all nonlinear terms and achieve the same compensation performance. After presenting the principle of the proposed scheme, the simulation results employing twocomponent carrier (2CC) LTE-A signal are presented that achieve ACLR of less than -50 dB and EVM of less than 2.5 %. the proposed DPDs with four-band and two-band splitting methods can decrease the sampling frequencies to the half and two thirds of the normal DPD, respectively. © 2018 ieee.

Recent work has shown how to train Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) rapidly on large image datasets [1], then transfer the knowledge gained from these models to a variety of tasks [2]. Following [3], in this work, we demonstrate similar scalability and transfer for Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) for Natural Language tasks. By utilizing mixed precision arithmetic and a 32k batch size distributed across 128 NVIDIA Tesla V100 GPUs, we are able to train a character-level 4096-dimension multiplicative LSTM (mLSTM) [4] for unsupervised text reconstruction over 3 epochs of the 40 GB Amazon Reviews dataset [5] in four hours. this runtime compares favorably with previous work taking one month to train the same size and configuration for one epoch over the same dataset [3]. Converging large batch RNN models can be challenging. Recent work has suggested scaling the learning rate as a function of batch size, but we find that simply scaling the learning rate as a function of batch size leads either to significantly worse convergence or immediate divergence for this problem. We provide a learning rate schedule that allows our model to converge with a 32k batch size. Since our model converges over the Amazon Reviews dataset in hours, and our compute requirement of 128 Tesla V100 GPUs, while substantial, is commercially available, this work opens up large scale unsupervised NLP training to most commercial applications and deep learning researchers1. A model can be trained over most public or private text datasets overnight.

the paper presents a novel digital circuit that allows to determine the winning neuron among all neurons in a self-organizing map (SOM), on the basis of their distances to a given input learning pattern. the proposed bit-wise circuit subsequently compares particular bits of the distance signals, starting from the most significant to least significant bits. the overall calculation process is very fast and does not depend on the number of neurons in the SOM. It is only dependent on the resolution of the compared signals. One of the advantages of the proposed solution is its ability to operate with signals distributed at large chip area, without using any clock generator. A prototype circuit comparing 64 signals of the resolution of 6-bits was realized in the CMOS 130 nm process and verified by transistor level simulations. the overall calculation process takes in the worst case 5 ns.

Rapid developments in Communications and Computation will lead new disruptive innovation resulting in a better way to deliver healthcare and education to all i.e. "e-Wellness." the Flexible Fractal Network (FFN), an architecture for a scalable network with distributed processing, storage and control, presented in this paper, has the potential to play the role of the IBM-PC as the disruptive innovation to transform insurance-based, institutional health care into personalize, patient centered e-Wellness. With the rapidly growing demand for more home-based-care, especially for the aging population, and adaptive education, a new delivery system that leverages advances in Communications and Computation will benefit the patient/caregiver and student/parent/teacher. the Flexible Fractal Network, a new innovative perspective on Communications and Computation, with a core of a permanent, high-capacity, high-reliability, low-latency network ("5G-like") is composed of scaled similar (fractal) networks. At each level, there are computational / storage / decision resources, which can provide services throughout the network. the key to the FFN is that all Network Resources [Transport, Storage, Computation, or Decision] are accessed as a Service and delivered "as needed." the Node doesn't need to know where the actual hardware/algorithms are located. All Services are "paid for" through the aid of a Service Broker. the FFN provides rapid, reliable and secure transport, storage, processing and actuating as needed. With 5G at the "Local Level" [i.e. the "Edge"], the FFN backbone makes possible the integration of e-Health and e-Education [Health as a Service "HaaS," Education as a Service "EaaS"]. the goal is to make the FFN the "IBM PC for HaaS & EaaS sparking the e-Wellness Revolution. Several FFN application examples are provided.

A significant disadvantage of fully homomorphic encryption is the long periods of time needed to process encrypted data, due to its complex and CPU-intensive arithmetic techniques. In this paper, a communication protocol is developed to ensure authenticity, integrity and privacy of measurement data across a distributed measuring system. the fully homomorphic encryption library LibScarab was extended by integer arithmetics, comparisons, decisions and multithreading to secure data processing. Furthermore, it enhances 32 and 64-bit arithmetic operations, improving them by a higher factor. this extension is integrated into a cloud computing architecture establishing privacy by design. the resulting parallelized algorithm solved the time constraint issues for smart meter gateway tariffs. Several tests were performed, fulfilling tariff specifications, where preserving privacy of accumulated data was necessary. It was concluded that this extension of the fully homomorphic encryption library meets the requirements of real world applications.

State Machine Replication (SMR) is a well-known technique to implement fault-tolerant systems. In SMR, servers are replicated and client requests are deterministically executed in the same order by all replicas. To improve performance in multi-processor systems, some approaches have proposed to parallelize the execution of non-conflicting requests. Such approaches perform remarkably well in workloads dominated by non-conflicting requests. Conflicting requests introduce expensive synchronization and result in considerable performance loss. Current approaches to parallel SMR define the degree of parallelism statically. However, it is often difficult to predict the best degree of parallelism for a workload and workloads experience variations that change their best degree of parallelism. this paper proposes a protocol to reconfigure the degree of parallelism in parallel SMR on-the-fly. Experiments show the gains due to reconfiguration and shed some light on the behavior of parallel and reconfigurable SMR.

We present a highly scalable, parallel implementation of first-principles electron dynamics coupled with molecular dynamics (MD). By using optimized kernels, network topology aware communication, and by fully distributing all terms in the time-dependent Kohn-Sham equation, we demonstrate unprecedented time to solution for disordered aluminum systems of 2000 atoms (22,000 electrons) and 5400 atoms (59,400 electrons), with wall clock time as low as 7.5 s per MD time step. Despite a significant amount of non-local communication required in every iteration, we achieved excellent strong scaling and sustained performance on the Sequoia Blue Gene/Qsupercomputer at LLNL. We obtained up to 59% of the theoretical sustained peak performance on 16,384 nodes and performance of 8.75 Petaflop/s (43% of theoretical peak) on the full 98,304 node machine (1,572,864 cores). Scalable explicit electron dynamics allows for the study of phenomena beyond the reach of standard first-principles MD, in particular, materials subject to strong or rapid perturbations, such as pulsed electromagnetic radiation, particle irradiation, or strong electric currents. Large scale computing and applications with large data sets often cause high cache miss rate because of using array of structures or linked-list data structure. When traversing these data structures, the memory accesses may have constant long strides across pages on virtual address (VA), but mostly scatter over the physical address (PA). therefore, conventional stride prefetcher (SP) based on PA cannot prefetch data efficiently here. In this paper, we propose a hardware data prefetching design named Virtual Address-based Stride Prefetcher (VASP) to exploit the prefetch potential of long-stride access pattern on VA. VASP detects the access strides on VA including those cross pages, then it predicts a new VA and prefetches data after address translation. We implement VASP in the gem5 simulator and use SPEC CPU2006 integer benchmarks to evaluate its performance. Our simulation results show that, compared with SP, applying VASP to caches offers up to 43% performance improvement in the mcf benchmark, and improves the overall performance by 6%.

Today, artificial neural networks (ANNs) are important machine learning methods which are widely used in a variety of applications. As the emerging field of ANNs, recurrent neural networks (RNNs) are often used for sequence-related applications. And Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) is an improved RNN which contains complex computational logic. To achieve high accuracy, researchers always build large-scale LSTM networks which are time-consuming and power-consuming. thus the acceleration of LSTM networks, low power & energy consumption become the hot issues in today's research. In this paper, we present a hardware accelerator for the LSTM neural network layer based on FPGA Zedboard and use pipeline methods to parallelize the forward computing process. To optimize our implementation, we also use multiple methods including tiled matrix-vector multiplication, binary adder tree, and overlap of computation and data access. through the acceleration and optimization methods, our accelerator is power-efficient and has a better performance than ARM Cortex A9 processor and Intel Core i5 processor.
