the Konstanz Information Miner is a user-friendly graphical workflow designer with a broad user base in industry and academia. Its broad range of embedded tools and its powerful data mining and visualization tools render it ideal for scientific workflows. It is thus used more and more in a broad range of applications. However, the free version typically runs on a desktop computer, restricting users if they want to tap into computing power. the grid and cloud User Support Environment is a free and open source project created for parallelized and distributed systems, but the creation of workflows withthe included components has a steeper learning curve. In this work we suggest an easy to implement solution combining the ease-of-use of the Konstanz Information Miner withthe computational power of distributed computing infrastructures. We present a solution permitting the conversion of workflows between the two platforms. this enables a convenient development, debugging, and maintenance of scientific workflows on the desktop. these workflows can then be deployed on a cloud or grid, thus permitting large-scale computation. To achieve our goals, we relied on a Common Tool Description XML file format which describes the execution of arbitrary programs in a structured and easily readable and parseable way. In order to integrate external programs into we employed the Generic KNIME Nodes extension.

this paper suggests multi-agent systems (MASs) for implementing game artificial intelligence (AI) for video games. One of main hindrances against using MASs technology in video games has been the real-time constraints for frame rendering. In order to deal withthe real-time constraints, we introduce an adaptation-oriented approach for maintaining frame rate in acceptable ranges. the adaptation approach is inspired from the level of detail (LoD) technique in 3D graphics. We introduce agent organizations for defining different roles of agents in game AI. the computational requirements of agent roles have been prioritized according to their functional roles in a game. In this way, adapting computational requirements of game AI works as a means for maintaining frame rate in acceptable ranges. the proposed approach has been evaluated through a pilot experiment by using a proof of concept game. the pilot experiment shows that LoD based adaptation allows maintaining frame rate in acceptable ranges and therefore enhancing the quality of service.

In parallel with advances in haptic-based mobile computingsystems, understanding of the neural processing of vibrotactile information becomes of great importance. In the human nervous system, two types of vibrotactile information, flutter and vibration, are delivered from mechanoreceptors to the somatosensory cortex through segregated neural afferents. To investigate how the somatosensory cortex differentiates flutter and vibration, we analyzed the cortical responses to vibrotactile stimuli with a wide range of frequencies. Specifically, we examined whether cortical activity changed most around 50 Hz, which is known as a boundary between flutter and vibration. We explored various measures to evaluate separability of cortical activity across frequency and found that the hypothesis margin method resulted in the greatest separability between flutter and vibration. this result suggests that flutter and vibration information may be processed by different neural processes in the somatosensory cortex.

Evaluation of the solutions for the tasks or projects solved by students is a complex process driven mainly by the subjective evaluation criteria of a given teacher. Each teacher is somehow biased meaning how strict she is in assessing grades to solutions. Besides the teacher's bias there are also some other factors contributing to grading, for example, teachers can make mistakes, the grading scale is too rough-grained or too finegrained, etc. Grades are often provided together with teacher's textual evaluations which are considered to be more expressive as a single number. Such textual evaluations, however, should be consistent with grades, meaning that if two solutions have very similar textual evaluations their grades should be also very similar. though, some inconsistencies between textual evaluations and grades provided by the teacher used to arise, especially, when a teacher has to assess a large number of solutions, or if more than one teacher is involved in the evaluation process. We propose a simple approach for detection of inconsistencies between textual evaluations and grades in this paper. Experiments are provided on two real-world datasets collected from the teaching process at our university.
