In handwritten text there are usually several accepted styles for forming each character. We hypothesize that in the handwriting of individuals there is a correlation among the styles used for characters, and that these correlations may be used to anticipate which styles particular writers will use for symbols that have not yet been seen. this approach may prove useful in the setting of mathematical handwriting recognition, where there are many symbols and it would be onerous to require writers to provide samples of every one in order to personalize handwriting recognition. We describe preliminary experiments using ideas from the area of recommendation systems to predict which styles writers will likely use for symbols they have not yet written. the experiments demonstrate that writers tend to use only a small fraction of the possible combinations of character writing styles, and there are correlations among the styles used for symbols.

the FlexRay communication protocol is expected to be the de-facto technique standard for the next generation highspeed networks on vehicles. A number of recent studies has thus investigated message scheduling techniques for FlexRay systems. However, most existing work focused on either the scheduling of periodic messages on the static segment or the scheduling of hard aperiodic messages on the dynamic segment while soft aperiodic messages have been neglected. Also, isolated scheduling severely limits the overall performance of all messages including periodic, hard aperiodic and soft aperiodic messages in terms of bandwidth utilization and transmission latency. In order to address these aspects, this paper presents an algorithm, referred to as Joint Scheduling Algorithm for FlexRay (JSAF), which jointly schedules soft aperiodic messages together with periodic and hard aperiodic messages in real-time FlexRay systems. the algorithm prioritizes periodic messages and hard aperiodic messages and first schedules them onto the static segment and the dynamic segment, respectively. Soft aperiodic messages are then dynamically scheduled with an online scheduler by utilizing unused time left by periodic messages and hard aperiodic messages. Performance evaluation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and competitiveness of our approaches when compared to existing algorithms.

When analyzing the performance of a bi-objective optimization algorithm, the empirical attainment function (EAF) is often used to visualize the attained parts of the objective space. Similarly, when comparing two algorithms, the differences in EAF values can be used to show the parts of the objective space in which the first algorithm outperforms the second one, and vice versa. this paper proposes to visualize the EAF values and differences also when assessing algorithmsthat optimize three criteria. this can be achieved by cutting through the 3D EAFs using multiple cutting planes and presenting the resulting intersections in 2D. the approach is described in detail and demonstrated on two arti- ficial Pareto front approximations.

Special features of a technology for flight development of the math-based software (MBS) for strapdown inertial satellite navigation systems (SISNS) are considered. the implementation of such a technology relies on modern flight data recorder equipment and permits one to optimize the MBF from the actual signals and on a set of the algorithms under study. A description of the SISNS based on a three-axis monolithic laser unit is given as an object of flight development. the results of tests of such a system are analyzed, which corroborate the fact that it is possible and expedient to apply the proposed technology to the creation of SISNS which can be made to order.

Forest vehicle routing is an important step in optimization of forest transportation system to minimize the total cost. To perform this work, we propose a mathematical model and use two metaheuristics approaches, a reactive tabu search and an extended great deluge. the objective is to minimize the total cost and respecting the time window of all customers which is sometime important in this field. Finally, the experimental results obtained withthe two metaheuristics approaches of the named vehicle routing problem are showed, discussed and compared to identify the best solution.
