Transient events in railway rolling noise, such as the characteristic impulsive noise at switches and crossings, can significantly contribute to the perceived annoyance, despite being difficult to detect in the standard frequency-domain methods to analyse rolling noise [1], [2]. Studying these transient effects and their perception requires predicting the noise in time-domain. While several time-domain approaches exist for predicting the dynamic interaction of wheel and rail, predicting the associated rolling noise with adequate accuracy is computationally costly. the lack of a model for transient noise and the need for studying its perception were recently identified [2], [3]. Aiming for a comprehensive time-domain radiation model that includes the wheel and track contributions to rolling noise, this work focusses on the track radiation. the modelling approach taken here is based on a 2.5D formulation for the acoustic radiation and moving Green's functions in air. the computational cost, which lies mainly in the 2.5D BE calculations, is addressed by pre-calculating acoustic transfer functions. these transfer functions can be combined with different dynamic track models. Different dynamic track models in turn affect radiated sound field in different ways. Here, the sound fields produced by six different track models are compared, including different support types and analytical and numerical rail models. Several descriptors of the sound field are analysed. In terms of the radiated sound power and radiation efficiency, modelling the rail as a simple beam leads to similar results as elaborate numerical models up to about 5 kHz. In terms of the track-side sound pressure, simple beam models can provide similar results only up to 2.5 kHz. Euler-Bernoulli beams seem unfit for time-domain predictions of the radiated noise as they overestimate the bending wave speed at high frequencies. the results also show that the standard track decay rate and the decay of acoustic sound

the use of drones or UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) for civilian applications and the related new paradigm of drone communications are arousing great interest in the subject over the last years. the application contexts are various and most of them need to transmit time critical data between the drone and the Internet and, particularly, towards a command and control station. In such a case it is essential to equip the drone with a communication system capable of solving typical concerns such as connection reliability, coverage area, bandwidth limitations, high packet loss rate and similar. this research presents a prototype of a mobile gateway exploiting the VPN (Virtual Private Network) bonding technique and the use of two 4G modems to improve the transmission of real time video to the remote control station. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed technique a preliminary test has been carried out equipping the drone with a mobile gateway during a flight campaign in rural areas: VMF (Video Multimethod Assessment Fusion) tool and the related index has been employed to evaluate the improvement in terms of video quality perceived by the operator.

Physical-layer network coding (PNC) is a promising technique in 6th-generation (6G) that can enhance the throughput of wireless communication systems, but it suffers from the performance loss because of relative phase offset that is brought by the asynchrony between different uplinks. Traditional way such as belief propagation (BP) that is used to solve the asynchrony needs estimated phases in uplinks as prior knowledge, and the computation complexity is high. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network (DNN) based PNC model that can deal with the phase asynchrony automatically and effectively without prior knowledge, and the system has small architecture that is easy to implement. Simulation results verify that our system has advantage of dealing with relative phase offset in PNC system under various modulation types.

While there are currently several methods available for pipeline leak detection, very few can be implemented on large complex gas pipelines in an intuitive and cost-efficient way. this is due to extensive measurements and additional instrumentations being rudimentary for such implementations to reach the expected real-time performances. this study explores a leak detection technology built for large, complex gas pipelines, created as a virtual simulation and a digital twin for real pipeline systems, that parallels the dynamic behaviors of the transient flows over time and space. the virtual system works as a mirror of the real systems to reveal the occurrences of abnormal events. thus, leaks can be observed and located by analyzing discrepancies in the simulated-measured pressure profiles of real-time transient models (PPRTM). the key assumption of this method is that discrepancies arising from the simulated-measured pressure profiles imply signatures of pipeline leaks. Such an assumption is verified by in-lab experiments as well as field trials. the underlying principles, assumptions, experiments, simulations, trials, and implementation of the PPRTM will be discussed in this study in detail. the application of this method on the YUJI natural gas pipeline system demonstrates that PPRTM is suitable as an efficient and effective implementation on large complex pipeline systems. the method provides a new way of continuously monitoring and locating the occurrences of leaks. It overcomes limitations of existing leak detection systems (LDS) since the pipeline system is monitored as whole and no extra measurements and instrumentation are required. Likewise, it is compatible with standard configurations of the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system and it is also capable of detecting and locating multiple leaks on the same pipeline.

In the Earth-star uplink system composed of multiple measurement and control stations and multiple satellites, the multipath effect caused by cloud reflection or refraction and the Doppler effect generated by the relative motion between the measurement and control station and the satellite will cause the injection signal distortion and attenuation. this paper proposes a channel estimation algorithm based on deep learning theory, which is different from the traditional orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) system in which the channel state information is estimated first. And then the estimated channel state information (CSI) is used to design the equalization module. In the process of restoring the transmission signal, this paper designs and uses a five-layer fully connected neural network to restore the useful information transmitted by the measurement and control station to the satellite in an end-To-end manner. the simulation results show that the channel estimation algorithm based on deep learning can effectively reduce the use of pilots, submit spectrum utilization, and reduce the system error rate. When pilots with the same length as the signal are used in OFDM symbols, the bit error rate performance of channel estimation algorithms based on deep learning is better than the traditional Least Squares (LS) algorithm. the performance of the LMMSE (Linear Minimum Mean Square Error) algorithm is equivalent to the proposed algorithm also in terms of bit error rate. When the pilot sequence length is reduced to 1/8 of the OFDM symbol, the algorithm proposed in this paper is far superior to the traditional Channel estimation algorithm. this result can be seen that the algorithm can greatly improve the spectral efficiency by reducing the use of pilots. © 2021 IEEE.

Time-Slotted Channel Hopping (TSCH) is a medium access control technology defined by the IEEE 802.15.4e standard to address reliability and timeliness requirements of low-power Internet of things (IoT) applications. Based on a communication schedule, TSCH exploits time-synchronization combined with frequency channel hopping to cope with wireless interference and multi-path fading. While standards define mechanisms for the basic configuration and communication of TSCH nodes, computing and adapting a schedule to the network and traffic dynamics are left as open research problems. In this paper, we propose a novel Distributed Traffic-aware Scheduling Function (DT-SF) for mobile IoT networks. DT-SF dynamically adapts the TSCH schedule to the changes of the traffic and the network topology. It estimates the node mobility by using a new lightweight approach and monitors the queue backlog to balance the traffic loads of children nodes. We model allocating TSCH timeslots to one-hop neighbors as a Mixed-Integer Convex Programming (MICP) problem which is solved by using the method of Lagrange multipliers and the Branch-and-Bound algorithm. We implement DT-SF on Zolerita Firefly IoT motes and the Contiki operating system to evaluate its performance on the testbed with 18 nodes. Evaluation results show that DT-SF improves the packet delivery ratio by up to 52% compared to the state-of-the-art method.
