the Shaped Metal Deposition (SMD) is a novel technique for rapid manufacturing of mechanical parts. It uses a robotic arm and a Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) arc welding system in order to obtain the desired component final shape adding progressively the needed material. Actually this is the first work, as far as we know, concerning an automatic control system on such a process. After a depth study of several aspects of the process, the fundamental key parameters have been identified. A simplified version of the SMD plant has been equipped both to study and to develop different control algorithms. In order to monitor and to investigate the process several types of sensors have been used during several simpler experimental tests. the experience acquired allowed to develop several basic control laws, so that a closed loop controller has been implemented. this controller takes and maintains the process around a stable working condition, so that the final process results totally automatic.

Different users have different needs and, especially in the web context, the user interfaces should deal withthese different needs. In this paper we propose a framework to support the design and development of flexible, adjustable interfaces;the framework is grounded in the semiotic concept of norms and is developed using Ajax technology. the framework was tested within the Vilanarede system, an inclusive social network system developed in the context of e-Cidadania project. the test helped us to identify the advantages and drawbacks of the proposed solution and the users provided us with important feedback to improve it.

Most research in Machine translation is about having the computers completely bear the load of translating one human language into another. this paper looks at the machine translation problem afresh and observes that there is a need to share the load between man and machine, distinguish reliable knowledge from the heuristics, provide a spectrum of outputs to serve different strata of people, and finally make use of existing resources instead of reinventing the wheel. this paper describes a unique approach to develop machine translation system based on the insights of information dynamics from Paninian Grammar Formalism. Anusaaraka is a Language Accessor cum Machine Translation system based on the fundamental premise of sharing the load producing good enough results according to the needs of the reader. the system promises to give faithful representation of the translated text, no loss of information while translating and graceful degradation (robustness) in case of failure. the layered output provides an access to all the stages of translation making the whole process transparent. thus, Anusaaraka differs from the Machine Translation systems in two respects: (1) its commitment to faithfulness and thereby providing a layer of 100% faithful output so that a user with some training can "access the source text" faithfully. (2) the system is so designed that a user can contribute to it and participate in improving its quality. Further Anusaaraka provides an eclectic combination of the Apertium architecture withthe forward chaining expert system, allowing use of boththe deep parser and shallow parser outputs to analyze the SL text. Existing language resources (parsers, taggers, chunkers) available under GPL are used instead of rewriting it again. Language data and linguistic rules are independent from the core programme, making it easy for linguists to modify and experiment with different language phenomena to improve the system. Users can become contributors by contrib

the Large Scale computing in Grids (LaSCoG) workshop originated in 2005, and when it was created we have stated in its preamble that: “the emerging paradigm for execution of large-scale computations, whether they originate as scientific or engineering applications, or for supporting large data-intensive calculations, is to utilize multiple computers at sites distributed across the Internet. In particular, computational Grids are collections of distributed, possibly heterogeneous resources which can be used as ensembles to execute large-scale applications. While the vision of the global computational Grid is extremely appealing, there remains a lot of work on all levels to achieve it.”
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a very useful technique for neurophysiological and neuropsychological investigations. In this paper we propose a user-friendly and a fully customizable system that allows exp...

the advent of various safety standards like ANSI /ISA 84, IEC 61511, API 14C, API 580 / 581, SAE JA1011, IEC 60330 and PSM guidelines has been a good impetus in improving the availability and reliability of safety systems and processes with an objective to meet the requirements defined by OSHA, EPA, HSE and other governmental groups around the world. Hazards analysis and risk assessments have become standard operating procedures in process plants over the past decade. Many organizations are carrying out more detailed asset specific risk assessments as part of Enterprise Asset Management programs. these risk assessments produce risk rankings and recommendations to maintenance / QA programs to mitigate these risks. this paper addresses the interaction between various risk assessment processes like Risk Based Inspection (RBI), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), Safety Integrity Level (SIL) analysis and movement toward developing a comprehensive risk management strategy. this paper envisages an asset integrity management approach to maintenance / QA programs wherein the integration of these analytical processes will result in a unified risk ranking. the unified risk ranking of assets can enhance safety, improve availability, reduce maintenance costs, and result in better operability.
