Communication systems are becoming more complicated to support different types of services. How to coordinate different services around a user in a flexible and customized way is a new and interesting challenge. Service providers have proposed solutions such as the Universal Communication Identifier (UCI) and IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) but they require the modification of current systems and only perform the service integration in their service domains. On the other hand, unified communications (UC) solutions have been proposed to support service integration across different service domains. In this paper, we proposed a personal unified communication system (PUCS). this system uses personal-oriented modules which allow it to integrate any communication services over heterogeneous wireless networks around a user in a customized and flexible way. Users can then enjoy unified communications in their personal domains without support from public or group service providers. the PUCS can provide users with UC capabilities such as personal mobility (PM), any-to-any communications, user presence, instant message (IM), unified messaging, speech access, and text access. the solution is scalable since it is implemented on personal domains. A further advantage is that, by using a universal personal identifier (UPI) and an alias system, a user can also be affiliated with different group domains. this makes it possible to define specific service profiles for each domain so that the user can also enjoy the unified communications provided specifically for that domain.

Mesh router (MR) placement is one of the fundamental issues that need to be addressed carefully to achieve a desired performance of a wireless mesh network (WMN). the objective of the MR placement schemes is to systematically determine the minimal number of MRs and their positions while satisfying various constraints, such as coverage, connectivity, traffic demand, etc. this paper explores the solution for placing the MRs with multiple transmission rates, which influence both transmission range and wireless link capacity. In the paper, we first formulate the problem with a mixed integer programming model. We then present a heuristic placement algorithm called ILSearch which takes into account both multiple transmission rates and co-channel interference. the ILSearch consists of two components: (1) Coverage MR determination which greedily exploits the capability of each selected MR to cover mesh clients (MCs);and (2) Relay MR determination that incrementally chooses the additional MRs for traffic relaying through the local search. Our simulation has not only shown that ILSearch can effectively obtain the MR placement that meets all the constraints, but also demonstrated that a MR placement which considers the variable transmission rates outperforms those don't.

New Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controllers (PI-FCs) are suggested in this paper. the PI-FC design is based on the optimization of PI controllers in terms of the Iterative Feedback Tuning (IFT) approach. Next the parameters of the PI controllers are mapped onto the parameters of the Takagi-Sugeno PI-FCs in terms of the modal equivalence principle. An attractive design method is derived to support the implementation of low-cost PI-FCs. the design is enabled by a stability analysis theorem based on Lyapunov's theorem for time-varying systems. the theoretical approaches are validated by a case study corresponding to the position control of a servo system. this article will discuss how rapid CBM methods for production testing can be performed without losing the robustness, thus saving important money for the company. Testing time is an issue that quickly can make many methods obsolete or impossible to use. When testing e.g. electrical motors, a magnet mounted accelerometer would be "easy to use and mount," but would change the motor's electrical performance and thus impossible to use. A glued sensor would take too long mount and probably leave residue and marks on the motor. this is not allowed. therefore, smart and embedded sensors in the test bed, still enabling a robust testing, is the goal making the systems very easy to use. Robust algorithms can always be designed but are they able to stay robust when the test time is only 2 seconds? Such systems will be outlined and discussed in this paper. the test system software must be intuitive and rapidly accomplish the needed test result. Due to the speed requirement, many "university methods" cannot be used. Effective but robust classification methods must be used. Some examples of methodology will be discussed withtheir pro's and con's.

Many analysis algorithms are performed in real time on the collected data. the tasks to be implemented mainly depend on reconstructing road profile as well as performing texture analysis in real time. the tasks will be implemented in parallel, which leads to the use of a multi-core based embedded system. this paper studies quantitative model checking of infinite tree-like (continuous-time) Markov chains. these tree-structured quasi-birth death processes are equivalent to probabilistic pushdown automata and recursive Markov chains and are widely used in the field of performance evaluation. We determine time-bounded reachability probabilities in these processes which with direct methods, i.e., uniformization, results in an exponential blow-up- by applying abstraction. We contrast abstraction based on Markov decision processes (MDPs) and interval-based abstraction;study various schemes to partition the state space, and empirically show their influence on the accuracy of the obtained reachability probabilities. Results show that grid-like schemes, in contrast to chain- and tree-like ones, yield extremely precise approximations for rather coarse abstractions.
