Ceramic outdoor insulators play an important role in electrical insulation and mechanical support because of the good chemical and thermal stability, which have been widely used in both transmission and distribution power system. However, the brittleness and surface discharge of ceramic material greatly limit the application of ceramic insulators. therefore, flash sintering technology is used to improve the insulation performance of ceramic insulators. In this paper, the simulation model of producing the ceramic insulator by the flash sintering technology was set up. Using alumina powder as the specimen, the influences of electric field intensity and current density on the sintering speed, density and grain size were investigated. Using COMSOL Multiphysics, the geometric model was built, the boundary conditions were set, and the grid was divided. Obtained results show that the current density has significant effects on the ceramic density and grain size. the increase of current density can result in higher ceramic density and larger grain size. the intensity of electric field affects incubation time of flash sintering. With increasing the electric field intensity, incubation time shows the decreasing tendency and energy consumption are reduced. Ceramic insulators with the higher uniform structure and the smaller grain size show the better dielectric performance and the higher flashover voltage. © 2020 IEEE.

Reconstruction of 3D objects and their application in practice is more and more studying. the input data are acquired from different devices and techniques. they are processed based on geometric modeling, image processing techniques, and computer graphics. the output data are 3D models that represent their initial shapes of the real-world objects. this paper presents research for reconstructing the 3D objects by using an RGB-D camera. the main contribution of the paper includes studying and analyzing several methods to reconstruct a 3D object from a set of 3D point clouds acquired from different devices. Our proposed method is then performed based on a combination of geometric modeling and images processing to build a 3D model of an object from a set of noisy 3D point clouds. We have also implemented and compared obtained results between the methods to determine the most suitable in term of precision and robustness on noisy real data captured by the Microsoft Kinect. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2020.

the IceCube realtime alert system has been operating since 2016. It provides prompt alerts on high-energy neutrino events to the astroparticle physics community. the localization regions for the incoming direction of neutrinos are published through NASA’s Gamma-ray Coordinate Network (GCN). the IceCube realtime system consists of infrastructure dedicated to the selection of alert events, the reconstruction of their topology and arrival direction, the calculation of directional uncertainty contours and the distribution of the event information through public alert networks. Using a message-based workflow management system, a dedicated software (SkyDriver) provides a representational state transfer (REST) interface to parallelized reconstruction algorithms. In this contribution, we outline the improvements of the internal infrastructure of the IceCube realtime system that aims to streamline the internal handling of neutrino events, their distribution to the SkyDriver interface, the collection of the reconstruction results as well as their conversion into human- and machine-readable alerts to be publicly distributed through different alert networks. An approach for the long-term storage and cataloging of alert events according to findability, accessibility, interoperability and reusability (FAIR) principles is outlined. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.

the IceCube Neutrino Observatory measures high energy atmospheric neutrinos with high statistics. these atmospheric neutrinos are produced in cosmic ray interactions in the atmosphere, mainly by the decay of pions and kaons. the rate of the measured neutrinos is affected by seasonal temperature variations in the stratosphere, which are expected to increase with the energy of the particle. In this contribution, seasonal energy spectra are obtained using a novel spectrum unfolding approach, the Dortmund Spectrum Estimation Algorithm (DSEA+), in which the energy distribution from 125 GeV to 10 TeV is estimated from measured quantities with machine learning algorithms. the seasonal spectral difference to the annual average flux will be discussed based on preliminary results from IceCube’s atmospheric muon neutrino data. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons.
