5 G cellular networks are supposed to accommodate the ever-increasing data explosion and hyper-dense installation of base stations thanks to their capacity to leverage connectivity and cost-effectiveness. 5G networks can accommodate far more applications concurrently than the existing infrastructure easily and efficiently. this is particularly relevant in view of the fact that the Internet is going to be used by around 41.6 billion linked users by 2025. Many will require guaranteed access to cloud services to function safely, like autonomous vehicle systems and industrial sensors. Whilst 4G networks (which use the Internet Protocol and Wifi, wireless and reaction-based networking) dominated the environment of telecommunications, Artificial intelligence Technology has advanced, along with its numerous sub-categories, including machine learning and deep learning, which was ready for delivering 5G networks for individuals to tackle the decreased bandwidth capacity of 4G. this project encourages us to create location optimization technologies that chooses ideal places for services antennas, ensuring the best potential coverage and use computer training algorithms to distribute resources dynamically to minimise user interference and to save energy.

the proliferation of the high-speed railway (HSR) promotes the rapid development of communication technology greatly. In this paper, we explore the application of the cloud radio access network (C-RAN) with the limited-capacity fronthaul in HSR scenarios. Moreover, a cache-based pre-downloading scheme for dynamic resource allocation is proposed to maximize the throughput of the HSR communication system. Specifically, the remote radio heads (RRH) are added with cache devices to store the resources in advance based on the pre-downloading scheme by using the predictable train trajectory information. the simulation result reveals that total network throughput based on the proposed scheme outperforms both the non-cache-based scheme and the conventional cache-based scheme, indicating that the proposed scheme provides some new insights on the enhancement of the HSRs network performance. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology. the Internet of things (IoT) enables connected devices that are an integral part of the physical world. the possibility to connect, manage, configure and dynamically reprogram remote devices through local and global cloud environments will open up a broad variety of new use cases, services, applications and device categories, and will enable entirely new product and application ecosystems as well. In this paper we discuss the software architecture options of IoT gateways as a follow-up to our earlier paper that defined a taxonomy of software architectures for IoT devices. We summarize several different software architecture options for IoT gateways. these options have a significant impact on the overall end-to-end architecture and topology of IoT systems, e.g., in determining how much computation can be performed on the edge of the network. Based on our observations and industry experiences we then make predictions on the future of gateway solutions and IoT systems more broadly.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have been widely used in wireless communication systems because of their flexibility and maneuverability. In this paper, for more efficient computing services, we consider computing tasks offloading in an air-ground system that a ground base station (GBS) and a UAV cooperatively serve the ground users. Our goal is to minimize the total transmission energy consumptions of the ground users by jointly optimizing the multi-user offloading strategy and the UAV's trajectory, while ensuring UAV's mobility and task delay constraints. this problem includes non-convex objective function, binary variables and non-convex constraints. therefore, we transform the original problem into two tractable sub-problems by introducing the auxiliary variables and relaxing the binary variables. Furthermore, we propose an alternative optimization algorithm to handle these sub-problems. Simulation results illustrate that our proposed algorithm can significantly reduce the total transmission energy consumptions of the ground users. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology. Internet of things (IoT) and Big data technologies combined with context-driven control could play an important role in developing approaches for reducing energy consumption while maintaining occupants' comfort in smart buildings. For instance, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning systems (HVAC) are the most used systems for maintaining the thermal comfort inside buildings, however, they are considered among the main electricity consuming systems. therefore, adopting new approaches for minimizing energy consumption seems to be the relevant solution. Renewable energy sources, such as geothermal energy is a promising technique that could be integrated together with the HVAC systems in order to save energy. In this paper, we propose a new approach towards an integrated system using Earth to Air Heat exchanger together with active HVAC systems operated and controlled by IoT and Big Data technologies. An experimental setup is discussed to highlight its components and usefulness towards energy saving in smart buildings.

the United Nations has developed 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to transform our world. Smart computing aims to combine advances in Information and Communication Technologies including Internet of things, cloud computing, mobile computing and social computing to create smart systems to make human life better. Smart computing is providing a new approach to address many of the complex and challenging problems and is a valuable tool to support progress towards many SDGs. the lack of a suitable framework to handle the complex multi-disciplinary nature of these applications is hindering sustainable development. Based on a series of solutions we have developed for agriculture domain to address the first three SDGs (i.e., No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Good Health and Wellbeing), we proposed a smart computing framework centered on user and societal empowerment. this framework consists of six dimensions: Economics, Domain Knowledge, Interaction Design, User Interface Design, User Empowerment and Societal Empowerment. As a way of validation, we adopted this framework to design a mobile-based information system to address "Hidden Hunger" in African countries and carried out a preliminary evaluation. Having the framework to guide our thinking and designing of the solution helped us to frame a holistic solution centered on user and societal empowerment. the proposed framework can be adopted to develop effective and innovative solutions to address many SDGs. © 2019, ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

With advances in mobile technology, use of mobile devices like smartphones, has grown rapidly around the world including thailand. Many mobile applications (apps) have been launched to help patients with chronic non-communicable diseases to manage their health behavior. However, little is known about the apps available in commercial application stores. Our study aimed to explore and evaluate the content and features of free download mobile apps available for diabetes self-management according to eight categories: (1) information support;(2) subscription requirement;(3) notifications;(4) visual aids;(5) goal setting;(6) export data;(7) medical consultation;and (8) compatibility. We found 22 apps available in the AppStore and 84 apps in the Google Play store. the applications available in the App Store could be categorized as tracking only (23%) as well as tracking and education (77%) with the three most common features;visual aids (95%), export data (82%), and notification (73%). the applications on Google Play store could be categorized into 4 groups;tracking (35%), tracking and education (15%), education alone (29%), and diabetes food recipes (21%). the apps in the tracking and tracking and education groups had a wide range of features, with app scores ranging from one to seven. Apps in the education and diabetes food recipe groups only had one feature - information support. Many apps also contained advertisements, with no references provided. therefore, it may be practical that healthcare providers explore each application before recommending to their patients. mobile apps that specifically fit the thai setting, with quality assessment of the reliability of information as well as assessment of e-health literacy are needed for diabetes self-management among thai patients. © Copyright 2019 IADIS Press All rights reserved.
