Feature models provide an effective approach to requirements reuse. One important problem related to feature models is the verification problem, which is NP-complete in theory. the existing approaches to feature models' verification mostly focus on how to automate the verification of feature models using third-party's tools, while these tools are usually designed to resolve general kinds of problems. However, by simply using these third-party's tools, large-sized feature models still can hardly be verified within acceptable time. We argue that, to improve the efficiency of verification, the problem itself should be at first optimized. In this paper, we propose an optimization strategy to feature models' verification, in which, verification-irrelevant features and constraints are eliminated from feature models and the problem size of verification is therefore reduced. We prove the correctness of this strategy, while experiments show the effectiveness of this strategy.

At present, traffic micro-simulation studies are mostly based on the following model and lane changing model, which are the fundamental models. What make them distinct are their different forms and parameters. Although these methods can simulate the foreign traffic system fairly well, they can not precisely simulate the mixed traffic of Chinese urban branch roads. this study, which focuses on the unique situation of Chinese motorized vehicles and non-motorized vehicles advancing in a mixed way on the urban branch roads, puts forward a new model that can be applied to motorized and non-motorized vehicles. It is an advanced model for mixed traffic on urban branch roads. Take motorized vehicles for example;it will no longer be limited to fundamental forms, such as free driving, following driving or lane changing driving and so on, but will always be in an advanced state. there is no rigid lane dividing principle when the vehicle is advancing. Its lateral location, speed and other factors depend on the comprehensive traffic circumstance around it. In theory, there are numberless possibilities and choices. the principles of the non-motorized vehicles model resemble the motorized vehicles model. When the model was built, we used the crossing bridge of north Jianshe street in Shijiazhuang for testing and verification. It turned out that this method can make an accurate micro-simulation of mixed traffic on Chinese urban branch roads. In this way, it filled the blank left by the imported software. © 2009 ASCE.

the use-level of road network prediction is the key for making a good plan of pavement maintenance. Traditional methods used for the use-level of road network prediction have some limitations. It is difficult for traditional prediction models to set up multi-parameter equations and predict many factors' changes. the precision is low, particularly in dealing with massive data of road networks. A neural network has certain advantages to predict the change of road network service's level. In this paper, a prediction model based on the Back-Propagation Neural Network (BP neural network) was established to predict use-level of a road network. China's road-related standards divide the use-level of road networks into 5 levels, so 5 state vectors were defined in the BP neural network. the status of a large number of roads over the years was turned into a 5-dimensional time series. the BP neural network was built on the MATLAB software platform. Many methods were used to improve prediction precision, such as Bayesian methods, repeat training, and so on. the prediction method was ameliorated too. Combined with factual data of road conditions in Tianjin, through the comparison of direct prediction and gradually rolling prediction, the results showed that gradually rolling prediction offered a better prediction precision and was more applicable to use in the use-level of road network prediction. Using gradually rolling prediction, this paper predicted and analyzed the changes of the use-level of road network in Tianjin. © 2009 ASCE.

this paper shows an analysis how to calculate proper bandwidth for VoIP calls after proper dimensioning PSTN network. For this purpose, we use Erlang B and extended Erlang B formulas. Further, we have developed a software tool to calculate proper numbers of the circuits on the PSTN side (using our bandwidth calculator) and after that, bandwidth on the IP. By another word, traffic analysis will be conducted to VoIP networks considering impact of many factors on the bandwidth: voice codec, samples, VAD, RTP compression. the regression analysis is used to show trends of the subscriber behavior in the future (for specific category of subscribers). Finally, simulation results are compared with data obtained by bandwidth calculator.

A reusable model-based testing method for software product lines (SPL) is used to create test specifications from use case and feature models, which can then be configured to test individual applications that are members of the SPL. this paper describes feature-oriented model-based testing method for SPLs that can be used to reduce the number of reusable test specifications created to cover all use case scenarios, all features, and selected feature combinations of a SPL. these test specifications can be automatically selected and configured during feature-based test derivation to test a given application derived from the SPL. this paper also addresses what application configurations to test and how to configure test specifications for these applications. this model-based testing method was applied and evaluated on two SPL case studies.

there are many approaches for Computer-aided software engineering (CASE), often accomplished by expensive tools of market-leading companies. However, to minimize cost, system architects and software designers look for less expensive, if not open-source, CASE tools. As there is often no common understanding on functionality and application area, a general inspection of the open-source CASE tool market is needed. the idea of this paper is to define a "status quo" of the functionality and the procedure models of open-source CASE tools by evaluating these tools using a criteria catalogue for the areas: technology, modelling, code generation, procedure model, and administration. Based on this criteria catalogue, 8 open-source CASE tools were evaluated with 5 predefined scenarios. Major result is: there was no comprehensive open-source CASE tool which assists and fits well to a broad set of developer tasks, especially since a small set of the evaluated tools lack a solid implementation in several of the criteria evaluated. Some of the evaluated tools show either just basic support of all evaluation criteria or high capabilities in a specific area, particularly in code generation.

It is believed that reusability in formal development should reduce the time and cost of formal modelling within a production environment. Along with the ability to reuse formal models, it is desirable to avoid unnecessary re-proof when reusing models. Event-B is a formal method that allows modelling and refinement of systems. Event-B supports generic developments through the context construct. Nevertheless Event-B lacks the ability to instantiate and reuse generic developments in other formal developments. We propose a way of instantiating generic models and extending the instantiation to a chain of refinements. We define sufficient proof obligations to ensure that;the proofs associated to a generic development remain valid in an instantiated development thus avoiding re-proofs.

Body segment parameters (BSP) are essential inputs in the kinetic analysis of human motion. these data include mass, center of mass and moments of inertia, and are usually obtained from population-specific predictive equations. Several limitations remained with the use of cadaveric measurement. these include limited sample size, as well as discrepancies in age and morphology. the limitations motivated the development of direct BSP measurements on living subjects. However, other limitations such as exposure to radiation, high cost and sheer lack of facilities that are readily available evolved. In addition, some methods provide only two-dimensional (2-D) measurements while others require intensive tomographic images for three-dimensional (3-D) reconstruction. this article proposes a novel technique for reconstructing subject-specific 3-D body mass distribution using from Dual Energy Absorptiometry X-ray imaging and 3-D exterior geometry. the accuracy of our method was assessed by calculating percent error between the criterion based on total body mass and our proposed total body mass measurements (TBM). We found less than one percent error between the criterion and our TBM measurements for subjects of four different body types: endormorph, mesomorph, ectomorph and central. We found significant differences between our proposed method as compared to cadaver-based and living-based models for segment mass (SM) at the hand;center of mass (CM) at the thigh, shank, foot, head and neck, trunk, upper arm, forearm and hand;and moments of inertia at the hand, shank, foot and trunk. Extensions of the research could further examined the influence of other BSP measurements derived from our proposed method and the four selected estimation models, as well as their impact on the inverse dynamics solutions in human motion.

In a current research project we are developing a software tool for the predictive life-cycle management of reinforced concrete structures. there are two main novelties in our approach: On the one hand we integrate non-destructive inspection techniques in combination with full-probabilistic deterioration models, thus allowing for an early detection of possible future damages and economic planning of preventive remedial actions. On the other hand we base our system on a 3D geometry model of the building. All non-geometric information concerning the building, e.g. material properties, environmental loads or inspection data, can be attached to this model. In this way an easy localization of such data is achieved, facilitating both the data collection and the estimation of the building condition for engineers involved in inspection planning, inspection or the scheduling of repair actions. the prevalent environmental loads and material resistances vary over the whole structure and can deviate over single elements of a structure as well. A subdivision of the structure into surface areas of comparable load and resistance is necessary to gain reliable results of deterioration modelling. therefore a hierarchic "level of detail" approach is being employed from network level down to individual hot spots on a sub-element level. All data, geometric and non-geometric, is stored in a central relational database. this database is coupled with Java applications that serve as user interface for storing new data in the database or gaining information from it. Using the Java 3D-library, the building geometry can be presented three-dimensionally in the user interface. © Civil-Comp Press, 2009.

Measuring and estimating are fundamental activities for the success of any project. In the software maintenance realm the lack of maturity, or even a low level of interest in adopting effective maintenance techniques and related metrics, have been pointed out as an important cause for the high costs involved. In this paper data mining techniques are applied to provide a sound estimation for the time required to accomplish a maintenance task. Based on real world data regarding maintenance requests, some regression models are built to predict the time required for each maintenance. Data on the team skill and the maintenance characteristics are mapped into values that predict better time estimations in comparison to the one predicted by the human expert. A particular finding from this research is that the time prediction provided by a human expert works as an inductive bias that improves the overall prediction accuracy.
