the lack of flexibility in software process modeling is an important drawback pointed out as the main cause for the low adoption of Process-centered softwareengineering Environments (PSEEs). the Object Management Group (OMG) has been working on the software Process engineering Meta-model (SPEM) in order to provide a uniform object-oriented meta-model for building software process models, like the Rational Unified Process (RUP). Nevertheless, the SPEM neither takes into account flexibility aspects nor provides a flexibility meta-model for derived software process models. this paper proposes a flexibility meta-model for building flexible SPEM-based software process models. SPEM compliant PSEEs that implement the proposed meta-model will provide the ability to build flexible software process models, and to associate distinct flexible mechanisms to their corresponding modeling elements.

Especially when trying to produce accurate and reliable software cost estimates, these difficulties are amplified due to the high level of complexity and uniqueness of the software process. this paper addresses the issue of estimating the cost of software development by identifying the need for countable entities that affect software cost and using them with artificial neural networks to establish a reliable estimation method. Input Sensitivity Analysis (ISA) is performed on predictivemodels of the Desharnais and ISBSG datasets aiming at identifying any correlation present between important cost parameters at the input level and development effort (output). the degree to which the input parameters define the evolution of effort is then investigated and the selected attributes are employed to establish accurate prediction of software cost in the early phases of the software development life-cycle.

software engineers tend to repeat mistakes when developing software. Automated static analysis tools can detect some of these mistakes early in the software process. However, these tools tend to generate a significant number of false positive alerts. Due to the need for manual inspection of alerts, the high number of false positives may make an automated static analysis tool too costly to use. In this research, we propose to rank alerts generated from automated static analysis tools via an adaptive model that predicts the probability an alert is a true fault in a system. the model adapts based upon a history of the actions the software engineer has taken to either filter false positive alerts or fix true faults. We hypothesize that by providing this adaptive ranking, software engineers will be more likely to act upon highly ranked alerts until the probability that remaining alerts are true positives falls below a subjective threshold.

Source code metrics can be used as input features for a classifier, however, there exist a large number of measures that capture different aspects of coupling, cohesion, inheritance, complexity and size. In a large dimensional feature space some of the metrics may be irrelevant or redundant. Feature selection is the process of identifying a subset of the attributes that improves a classifier's discriminatory performance. this paper presents initial results of a genetic algorithm as a feature subset selection method that enhances a classifier's ability to discover cognitively complex classes that degrade program understanding.
