In 2003 the ateM workshop series was established to discuss the use of Schemas and Metaschemas in reverse engineering (ateM is Meta reverse). ateM 2003, which was part of the 10th international conference on Reverse engineering held in Victoria, Canada, already dealt with model driven approaches to support program analysis and comprehension. Since models in reverse engineering mostly deal with documents written in certain programming or modeling languages, the extension of ateM towards grammars was a consistent step. thus, ateM 2004, held at the 11th international conference on Reverse engineering, Delft, the Netherlands, viewed Metamodels, Schemas and Grammars. Nowadays model driven approaches are common in software engineering and furthermore, ontologies complement modeling technologies used today. So, the third ateM-workshop, which was part of the 9th international conference on Model Driven engineering, Languages and Systems in Genova, Italy, dealt with Metamodels, Schemas, Grammars and Ontologies.

there are multiple types of information which can be extracted from sensor actions and which affect the fusion of sensor data. Some information can be anticipated in the form of predicting which information will maximally reduce our uncertainty about a random variable, and some of it is after-the-fact and can be used to change the quality of fusion by, for example, selecting different state estimator process models. the next level of improving fusion is by actively determining which information for a sensor system to obtain and therefore taking a proactive roll in the fusion process, rather than simply performing the best fusion of data that is provided

the paper considers piecewise linear system with bounded disturbances (PWLBD system). Some properties of the minimal disturbance invariant set F infin of PWLBD systems are discussed and an algorithm for the computation of its outer bounds is presented. In general, the set F infin of PWLBD system is non-convex and a union of many polytopes. the resulting outer bounds are convex and remain disturbance invariant property

In this paper, application of a modified nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) method with simplified optimization problem has been studied. the NMPC scheme used here is based on Wiener model which requires only little more effort in development than a standard linear step-response model, yet offers superior characterization of systems with highly nonlinear gains. In this work, Wiener model has been incorporated into model predictive control scheme in a way that effectively removes the nonlinearity from the control problem. this scheme is based on identification of inverse nonlinear part of the Wiener model. the presented method results in an optimization problem with the implementation and computation levels of difficulty, that are nearly equivalent to the case where the plant and constraints are linear. A standard quadratic programming (QP) algorithm is enough to solve the optimization problem. PH neutralization, as a highly nonlinear plant, is used in simulations to demonstrate the efficiency of the presented method

this paper introduces SmartC, a language designed for programming automotive electronics embedded systems such as engine control systems. SmartC is a hierarchical modeling language and implements the SmartOSEK operating system model. the SmartC models are classified into four levels, namely module level, task level, subtask level and component level. In the SmartC models, control-flow oriented models and data-flow oriented models are integrated in the hybrid SmartC models. At the task level, the model is constructed based on the control flow, whereas the component level model is constructed based on the data flow. In SmartC programs, all inter-task communication, task triggering mechanisms, and access to guarded global variables, are automatically generated by the SmartC generator which generates the C code from the SmartC code. Having well-structured concurrency mechanisms, SmartC greatly reduces the risk of concurrency errors, such as deadlock and race conditions. the SmartC language is implemented on the automated manual transmission (AMT) control system and is compatible with the OSEK/VDX specifications. We use a continuous time (CT) model as an example to illustrate the effectiveness of the language

Interest has focused on the analysis of vehicle emission based on the remote sensing data during the last two decades. this paper proposes an artificial neural network model for predicting taxi gross emitters using remote sensing data. Firstly, it introduces the field test in Guangzhou, and then analyzes the various factors from the emission data. Secondly, after doing principal components analysis and selecting algorithm and architecture, the back-propagation neural network model with 8-17-1 architecture was established as the optimal approach. It gives a percentage of hits of 93%. Finally, comparison among our former research results and aggression analysis results were presented. the results show the potentiality and validity of the proposed method in the prediction of taxi gross emitters

Soft sensors are especially required in lots of advanced process control applications. the ANN based soft sensor are widely studied recently. But the ANN is an uncertain method in nature. In view of the complexity of the industrial processes, the robustness is an important criterion to evaluate a model. the generalization capability is another factor to affect the applicability of a model. Aiming at improving the robustness and generalization capability of a system, a two-level architecture MNN model is proposed for soft sensor modeling. In our model, multiple networks are combined with the Bayesian and fuzzy C-means (FCM) clustering combination methods at different levels. Two experiments are conducted to validate the effectiveness of our model. the results reveal that the proposed model exceeds other three models indeed

Naturalness can be achieved in a text-to-speech (TTMP) by incorporating prosodic features which include duration of basic units, intonation patterns and stress. this paper presents the preliminary duration analysis required for a speech synthesis system for Malayalam, one among the 17 languages spoken in India. the statistical analysis of the duration of phonemes has yielded results, which can effectively be used for developing a duration model for the language. the durational patterns of vowels and consonants are compared. the study shows that, it is the duration of vowels that get significantly modified and hence duration modelling has to focus primarily on vowels. For vowels, the positional factors have more effect on duration than the contextual factors. the results obtained in this study can simplify a rather complex task of framing rules for duration variation.

this paper describes a system that replaces an individual's facial features with corresponding features of another individual -possibly of different skin color- and fuses the replaced features with the original face, such that the resulting face looks natural. the final face resulting from the fusion of the original face with exogenous features, lacks the characteristic discontinuities that would have been expected if only a replacement operation was performed. the proposed system could be used to simulate and predict the outcome of aesthetic maxillofacial plastic surgeries. To achieve its task, the system uses five modules: face detection, feature detection, replacement, shifting and blending. While these modules are designed to address the problem of face fusion, some of the novel algorithms and techniques introduced in this paper could be useful in other image processing and fusion applications

Aerobraking is an efficient technique for orbit adjustment of planetary spacecraft, such as Magellan (Venus), Mars Global Surveyor, and Mars Odyssey. Determination of the vehicle state during the aerobraking phase has conventionally been performed using only radiometric tracking data prior to and following the atmospheric drag pass. this approach is sufficiently accurate and timely to meet current mission operational requirements;however, it is expensive in terms of ground support and leads to delayed results because of the need for post-drag pass data. this research presents a new approach to estimation of the vehicle state during the atmospheric pass that sequentially incorporates observations from an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and models of the vehicle and environment. the approach, called Inertial Measurements for Aerobraking Navigation (IMAN), is shown to perform at a level comparable to the conventional methods in terms of navigation accuracy and superior to them in terms of availability of the results immediately after completion of the pass. Furthermore, the research shows that IMAN can be used to reliably predict subsequent periapsis times and locations over all aerobraking regimes. IMAN also yields accurate peak dynamic pressure and heating rates, critical for a successful corridor control strategy, comparable to navigation team reconstructed values. this research also provides the first instance of the utilization of the Unscented Kalman Filter for the purpose of estimating an actual spacecraft trajectory arc about another planet. © 2006 by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Inc.
