Describes a software modeling system for predicting image quality of a radiological X-ray system. As opposed to simulation, this model bases the prediction on several quasi-separable performance measures, called system quantities (SQs). Examples of SQs are modulation transfer function, contrast gain, and noise distribution. Use of the SQs provides results which are more direct than simulation with significantly less computation. the modeling structure is created to be insensitive to the nature of its components or the methods of subsystem modeling. this system is designed primarily to facilitate component selection for new X-ray systems. It can also be used to predict the impact of component changes on existing systems, including incorporation of new technology, and to assist in resolution of discrepancies between expected and measured performance in existing systems.

the paper describes Opsis, a view mechanism applied to graph based process modelling languages of type Petri net. A view is a sub model which can be mechanistically constructed from another model by application of a perspective which: identifies all parts of the original model that are contained in the submodel; identifies and transforms all parts that constitute the interface to other sub models; adds new link relations to describe the behaviour of the sub model in interaction withthe other sub models. Sub models are more easy to grasp and can be limited in scope to some well defined aspects of a global model, such as the view point ofa single role player. Composition of sub models is achieved through a merge operation on interface elements of sub models. the intended use of Opsis is: 1) process evolution-changes can be localised to certain views, which largely reduces the complexity of applying change; and 2) process reuse-libraries can contain reusable fragments of type view that can be combined using the composition operators.

software Quality Manager(SQM) aims at the construction of software metrics evaluation environment in which their whole measurement process is performed in an engineering way. All of data, information and knowledge required for engineers during the process such as evaluation models and decision-supporting knowledge is formally represented and managed to enhance consistency and to reduce misunderstanding. And the concurrent measurement and analysis tasks occurred during the process is coordinated in SQM, in order to make their results significant. After defining software metrics briefly, we present objectives and three-stage structure of SQM in detail. SQM supports qualitative/quantitative measurement techniques and is equipped with knowledge bases for softwareengineering and application domains. It also utilizes domain knowledge of applications in the forms of software components. Finally, we present our on-going efforts to make it practical, including construction of two knowledge bases, integration of evaluation techniques, unified calibration units for software metrics, qualitative behavior generation techniques and so on.

In this work, we are concerned withthe technology and methods for integrating an application that is event-based, whether that application is being constructed from scratch or is a synthesis of existing event-based systems. Developing an event-based application is a complex task for programmers, who must address several issues not found in traditional systems, and, currently, must do so without much assistance. In this paper, we broaden the technology for integration to encompass event-based programming. A method is presented for separating event-based interaction properties from the implementation of the application modules, so that system integration can be performed using only the abstractions. then based upon the abstract aggregate, all interface software needed to validly implement the system will be generated automatically. A software bus model is enhanced to accommodate the models which drive event-based distributed applications. In this way, designers may define complex event-based interaction abstractly, making it easier to integrate and experiment with event-based distributed applications.

Performance debugging and prediction for parallel systems is a difficult problem. the difficulties in identifying performance bottlenecks stem from the need for an intimate understanding of the underlying architecture. It has been recognized that portability is an important requirement for parallel program development. However, this makes the task of performance debugging even more difficult. In this paper, we present a simulation based approach for performance prediction of portable-parallel programs. We demonstrate it using Charm: a message driven programming environment, which provides program portability across a variety of shared and distributed memory MIMD parallel systems. the proposed approach makes it possible to use a single debugging environment for the development of portable parallel software. this environment can provide correctness and performance debugging support that provides the developer with valuable feedback for improving program performance.< >

A software for the design of individually optimized profiles of the process parameters during hemodialysis has been developed. Withthis program the required profiles of the ultrafiltration rate and of different solute concentrations in the dialysate are calculated such that the desired time courses of the blood solute concentrations in the patient are attained as closely as possible. the algorithms are based on an individually identifiable patient model and a standard optimization routine.
