Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) are crucial in industrial automation, making proficiency in their use an essential skill for engineering students. Choosing the right platform for teaching PLC programming in universities, however, may be challenging. this paper summarizes, compares and evaluates various software platforms used in universities. the leading platforms could be identified based on a defined criteria framework encompassing cost, accessibility, learning curve, industry relevance, supported languages, and additional features. through detailed examination and discussion, the platforms that offer the most efficient and effective learning experience for PLC programming education in universities could be identified. this selection should further be justified by considering additional factors like instructor experience, student preferences, institutional support, and geographical location. this paper not only highlights the strengths and weaknesses of different platforms but also provides valuable insights and recommendations for universities seeking to optimize their PLC programming curriculum. the findings hold the potential to enhance the quality of PLC programming education, better preparing students for successful careers in automation-driven industries.

We tried to assess the actual demand for biomedical engineers (BMEs) in Tanzania comparing it withthe figure of 7,000 BMEs reported by the Tanzanian Minister of Education in 2017. To estimate the present demand and whether existing degree programs would cover it an extensive literature review was conducted. In addition, both a quantitative and a qualitative survey answered by 30 Tanzanian BMEs was analyzed. Local staffing guidelines, the number of registered hospitals and results of the survey were used to further calculate the current staffing requirements considering degree courses offered in this field and the associated number of graduates. Our results show an actual need of at least 2,500 BME graduates which can be covered within 11 years by the existing degree programs. However, it remains open whether the present training courses will meet the demand also in the face of the actual rapid growth of technologization in the healthcare sector. We conclude that our solidly based results highlight the imperative for further measures in order to enhance the future development of the biomedical engineering sector in Tanzania.

LinkedIn is the largest professional network in the world. As such, it can serve to build bridges between practitioners, whose daily work is softwareengineering (SE), and researchers, who work to advance the field of softwareengineering. We know that such a metaphorical bridge exists: SE research findings are sometimes shared on LinkedIn and commented on by software practitioners. Yet, we do not know what state the bridge is in. therefore, we quantitatively and qualitatively investigate how SE practitioners and researchers approach each other via public LinkedIn discussions and what both sides can contribute to effective science communication. We found that a considerable proportion of LinkedIn posts on SE research are written by people who are not the paper authors (39%). Further, 71% of all comments in our dataset are from people in the industry, but only every second post receives at least one comment at all. based on our findings, we formulate concrete advice for researchers and practitioners to make sharing new research findings on LinkedIn more fruitful.

software logs play a vital role in ensuring the reliability and availability of large-scale software systems. In recent years, researchers have made significant efforts to build log analysis approaches to manage software systems. However, these approaches focus on log compression, log parsing and log anomaly detection. In the current context, engineers continue to spend substantial time and effort on resolving errors once anomalous logs have been detected. To achieve truly automated software system management and high-level Artificial Intelligence for IT Operations (AIOps), it's necessary to bridge the gap between anomalous logs and their resolutions. In this paper, we propose a novel framework LogExpert to automatically generate recommended resolutions for anomalous logs. Specifically, we build a log recognizer to utilize the wealth of softwareknowledge in technical forums such as Stack Overflow (SO). In addition, LogExpert combines the great power of a Large Language Model (LLM) with domain-specific knowledge to generate the resolution. We conducted a preliminary evaluation of our framework on datasets from SO. Our log recognizer achieves the F1 score of 0.936. Our lexical metrics and human evaluation show the overall LogExpert framework achieves excellent performance in log-based resolution generation.
