Graphical userinterfaces used to be static, graphically representing one software state after the other. However, animated transitions between these static states are an integral part in modern userinterfaces and processes for both their design and implementation remain a challenge for designers and developers. This paper proposes a Petri net model-based approach to support the design, implementation and validation of animated userinterfaces by providing a complete and unambiguous description of the entire userinterface including animations. A process for designing interactive systems focusing on animations is presented, along with a framework for the definition and implementation of animation in userinterfaces. The framework proposes a two levels approach for defining a high-level view of an animation (focusing on animated objects, their properties to be animated and on the composition of animations) and a low-level one dealing with detailed aspects of animations such as timing and optimization. A case study (in the domain of interactive Television) elaborating the application of the presented process and framework exemplifies the contribution. Copyright 2012 acm.

In this paper we propose an exploratory augmented reality(AR) system for mobile devices. A hybrid system of 3D object detection and 3D tracking is used to rapidly localize the object in the scene. Based on randomized tree classifier, object detection supports large viewpoint changes. While edge-based 3D tracking provides efficient computation and better accuracy for pose estimation of incremental motions. The result is an augmented reality system that works well with large viewpoint variance and has superior accuracy. Using a mobile device such as iPad or iPhone, our system further provides exploratory capability using their touch screen and wireless connectivity. The user is able to interact and explore the 3D object on the image or video, and collaborate with a remote user. Extensive experiments with different subjects demonstrate that the proposed system advances the state-of-the-art in augmented reality with novel and intuitive applications. Copyright 2012 acm.

Interactive workspaces are increasingly physically distributed, highlighting the challenge of building interfaces that support group interaction with digital documents through multiple locations and devices. This paper presents the technical implementation and userinterface of ReticularSpaces. Based on the concepts and principles of Activity-Based Computing (ABC), ReticularSpaces implements a novel approach to smart space userinterfaces, and supports task-based information management, mobility, and collaboration. Differential Formal Analysis (DFA) is an evaluation method based on stochastic simulation for evaluating safety critical userinterfaces with subtle programming differences. This method enforces rigorous science by requiring two or more researchers to perform the analysis which in itself, raises important issues for discussion. This method is demonstrated through a case study on 5-key number entry systems which are a safety critical interface found in various popular commercial medical infusion pumps. The results of the case study are an important contribution of this paper since it provides device manufacturers guidelines to update their device firmware to make their 5 key number entry UIs safer, as well as a method that could be applied to other designs. One of our main goal is to provide a VR chemical laboratory system as a VR-learning system for the people, i.e., who have to stay in the hospital. Therefore we have already proposed an interactive model of virtual liquid like water which focus on user impression and real-time processing rather than exact behavior simulation. However free fall water was simulated and rendered with particles simply. In this paper, we propose an efficient and effective method of free fall water with key particles instead of conventional particles. The envelope surface is rendered around the key particles as a surface of the water.

Web applications have gained significant popularity. Relevant technologies, however, are to a great extent still immature and in constant evolution. This means many current applications are subject to constant change to keep up with the technology, leading to a degradation of application quality, both from an implementation and a usage perspective. In this context, tools that enable reasoning about the quality of the application from its source code can have a significant role. This paper reports on our preliminary work on reverse engineering the userinterface layer of web applications directly from source code. Its applicability to GWT is described through two examples. In our research, we are trying to realize the visuo-haptic system which can give users a sense as if they were touching on virtual objects with various shapes, using pseudo-haptic effects. In this paper, we focus on altering the identified position of edges on a object when touching it with a pointing finger, by displacing the visual representation of the user's hand as if they were touching a virtual object, in order to construct a intended visuo-haptic system. To confirm the effect of a visual feedback for altering the identified position of primitives, we composed a video see-through system, which enables us to change the perception of the shape of an object a user is visually touching, when in actuality s/he is touching another shape. The experiments were conducted with a video see-through system we composed and their results showed the participants perceived positions of edges that was the same as the one they were visually touching, even though the positions of edges they were actually touching was different. These results prove that the perceived positions of edges could be modified, and even if the ratio of the successive distance between edges is 1 : 1, we can modify the perception of this ratio from 3 : 2 to 2 : 3.
