interfaces for conceptual and creative design should recognize and interpret drawings. They should also capture users' intended ambiguity, vagueness, and imprecision and convey these qualities visually and through interactive behavior. Freehand drawing can provide this information and it is a natural input mode for design. We describe a pen-based interface that acquires information about ambiguity and precision from freehand input, represents it internally, and echoes it to users visually and through constraint based edit behavior.

Spatial augmented reality (SAR) makes possible the projection of virtual environments into the real world. In this demo, we propose to demonstrate our SAR tools dedicated to the creation of physical drawings. From the most simple tools: the projection on virtual guidelines enabling to trace lines and curves to more advanced techniques enabling stereoscopic drawing through the projection of a 3D scene. This demo presents how we can use computer graphics tools to ease the drawing, and how it will enable new kinds of physical drawings.

An interaction technique for immersive virtual environments called 'head-tracked orbital viewing' is described. The user's head orientation is tracked and mapped so as to move the viewpoint of the user about the surface of a virtual sphere surrounding a center of rotation. The technique is useful for object examination tasks in a virtual world, allowing the user to quickly and easily view an object from many perspectives.

This paper adopted an iterative design process to gain insights into programmers' strategies when using LLMs for programming. We proposed CoLadder, a novel system that supports programmers by facilitating hierarchical task decomposition, direct code segment manipulation, and result evaluation during prompt authoring. A user study with 12 experienced programmers showed that CoLadder is effective in helping programmers externalize their problem-solving intentions flexibly, improving their ability to evaluate and modify code across various abstraction levels, from their task's goal to final code implementation.

HapticLever is a new kinematic approach for VR haptics which uses a 3D pantograph to stify render large-scale surfaces using small-scale proxies. The HapticLever approach does not consume power to render forces, but rather puts a mechanical constraint on the end efector using a small-scale proxy surface. The HapticLever approach provides stif force feedback when the user interacts with a static virtual surface, but allows the user to move their arm freely when moving through free virtual space. We present the problem space, the related work, and the HapticLever design approach.

Voice-controlled medical devices in operating rooms face challenges due to face masks and noise, hindering speech recognition accuracy. We present a novel solution: a detachable piezoelectric microphone attached to a face mask, prioritizing hygiene and comfort. By capturing surface vibrations from the user's voice, our system significantly improves scale-invariant signal-to-distortion ratio (Si-SNR) compared to traditional unidirectional microphones, especially for whispered speech, as demonstrated in a simulated noisy environment. This real-time, noise-suppressive approach offers a promising avenue for enhancing voice input and conversations in various applications and settings.

We present a new tongue detection system called SITA, which comprises only a Kinect device and conventional laptop computer. In contrast with other tongue-based devices, the SITA system does not require the subject to wear a device. This avoids the issue of oral hygiene and removes the risk of swallowing a device inserted in the mouth. In this paper, we introduce the SITA system and an application. To evaluate the system, a user test was conducted. The results indicate that the system could detect the tongue position in real time. Moreover, there are possibilities of training the tongue with this system.

When users handle large amounts of data, errors are hard to notice. Outlier finding is a new way to reduce errors by directing the user's attention to inconsistent data which may indicate errors. We have implemented an outlier finder for text, which can detect both unusual matches and unusual mismatches to a text pattern. When integrated into the userinterface of a PBD text editor and tested in a user study, outlier finding substantially reduced errors.

While management of today's software systems is usually performed by humans using some userinterface (UI), autonomic systems would be self-managed. They would typically consist of a managed element, which provides actual system functionality, and an autonomic manager performing system management. However, truly self-managed systems are hard to achieve and not (yet) in wide-spread use. During the transition towards autonomic software systems it is more realistic to manage a large and complex software system partly by humans and partly by an autonomic manager. For facilitating this approach, the communication between the managed element and human administrators on the one hand and the communication between the managed element and the autonomic manager on the other, should be unified and specified on the same semantic level. However, there is no scientific basis for such a unified communication approach. We present a unified specification of this communication in a high-level discourse model based on insights from theories of human communication. This approach would make this communication "natural" for humans to define and to understand. In addition, we propose to use the same specification for the automated generation of userinterfaces for management by human administrators. As a consequence, a smooth and gradual transition towards self-managed software systems will be facilitated, where the portion managed by human administrators becomes smaller and smaller.
