The postural sway in 24 subjects performing a boresight calibration task on a large format head-up display is studied to estimate the impact of human limits on boresight calibration precision and ultimately on static registration errors. The dependent variables, accumulated sway path and omni-directional standard deviation, are analyzed for the calibration exercise and compared against control cases where subjects are quietly standing with eyes open and eyes closed. Findings show that postural stability significantly deteriorates during boresight calibration compared to when the subject is not occupied with a visual task. Analysis over time shows that the calibration error can be reduced by 39% if calibration measurements are recorded in a three second interval at approximately 15 seconds into the calibration session as opposed to an initial reading. Furthermore parameter optimization on experiment data suggests a Weibull distribution as a possible error description and estimation for omni-directional calibration precision. This paper extends previously published preliminary analyses and the conclusions are verified with experiment data that has been corrected for subject inverted pendulum compensatory head rotation by providing a better estimate of the position of the eye. Large open source software repositories are polluted with incomplete or inadequately functioning projects having scarce or poor descriptions. Developers often search these repositories to find sample applications containing implementations of relevant features. While relying on software search engines that retrieve germane applications based on direct matches between user queries and words in the descriptions (or source code files), it is difficult to warrant that retrieved applications contain functionality described by their authors in project summaries. We propose a novel approach called K9 that helps users evaluate if recommended applications implement functionality, which is described by the authors in project summaries. Using programmers' queries describing high-level concepts (e.g., sql server, floating toolbar, or smart card), K9 uses information retrieval and program analysis techniques to evaluate recommended applications based on how they implement these high-level concepts. We conjecture that K9 will effectively support developers in evaluating functionality of the retrieved applications. Copyright 2008 acm.

This paper describes the design, implementation and evaluation of a wearable interface for ubiquitous gaming, dubbed Gauntlet. Our objective has been to achieve a userinterface for intuitive and immersive interaction in mobile gaming environments, but generic enough to be used in diverse game styles and untethered from location-specific hardware and software frameworks. A fully-functional prototype has been built from the first design approach and its use illustrated by a gaming application based on manipulation of real objects. The multilevel memory hierarchy of CBEA poses significant challenges to traditional programming. software-managed cache shipped with CBE SDK is a technique that attempts to address such issues, but its poor performance and inconvenient userinterface present significant obstacles for it to be widely applied. This paper proposes an efficient software-managed cache named ECellS which views a sequence of array elements as its caching object. Several such objects belonging to different variables are combined into a "cache bind" and managed in parallel by using SIMD technology. By this type of coarse-grain managing method, ECellS cache reduces both the burden of SPU to manage cache buffer and the size of cache managing code. Finally, a more convenient programming interface which is similar to OpenMP directive is presented to facilitate programming. Experiments in this paper clearly demonstrate that ECellS cache is not only easy to be used but also performs better than traditional software-managed cache on CBE architecture.

End users of software typically have to let someone else develop it and its userinterface, or to learn to design and to program it themselves. Especially userinterfaces developed by someone else may not fit well the given task. Designing and programming is hard and takes a lot of effort in general, and even more so for people not especially trained or experienced. Therefore, we propose end-user development of userinterfaces through a new approach and interface for discourse modeling. End users may themselves model an interaction design as a discourse (in the sense of a dialogue between human and computer). From such an interaction design, eventually a userinterface is to be generated automatically by a tool. As a consequence, end-user development becomes end-user modeling instead of programming.
