Log parsing, which extracts log templates from semi-structured logs and produces structured logs, is the first and the most critical step in automated log analysis. While existing log parsers have achieved decent results, they suffer from two major limitations by design. First, they do not natively support hybrid logs that consist of both single-line logs and multi-line logs (e.g., Java Exception and Hadoop Counters). Second, they fall short in integrating domain knowledge in parsing, making it hard to identify ambiguous tokens in logs. This paper defines a new research problem, hybrid log parsing, as a superset of traditional log parsing tasks, and proposes Hue, the first attempt for hybrid log parsing via a user-adaptive manner. Specifically, Hue converts each log message to a sequence of special wildcards using a key casting table and determines the log types via line aggregating and pattern extracting. In addition, Hue can effectively utilize user feedback via a novel merge-reject strategy, making it possible to quickly adapt to complex and changing log templates. We evaluated Hue on three hybrid log datasets and sixteen widely-used single-line log datasets (i.e., Loghub). The results show that Hue achieves an average grouping accuracy of 0.845 on hybrid logs, which largely outperforms the best results (0.563 on average) obtained by existing parsers. Hue also exhibits SOTA performance on single-line log datasets.

The rapid growth in the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI Agents as part of software development and deployment is revolutionizing the information technology landscape. While code generation receives significant attention, a higher-impact application lies in using agents for the operational resilience of cloud services, which currently require significant human effort and domain knowledge. There is a growing interest in AI for IT Operations (AIOps), which aims to automate complex operational tasks, like fault localization and root cause analysis, reducing human intervention and customer impact. However, achieving the vision of autonomous and self-healing clouds through AIOps is hampered by the lack of standardized frameworks for building, evaluating, and improving AIOps agents. This vision paper lays the groundwork for such a framework by framing the requirements and then discussing design decisions that satisfy them. We also propose AIOpsLab, a prototype implementation leveraging agent-cloud-interface that orchestrates an application, injects real-time faults using chaos engineering, and interfaces with an agent to localize and resolve the faults. We report promising results and lay the groundwork to build a modular and robust framework for building, evaluating, and improving agents for autonomous clouds. © 2024 Owner/Author.

Sighted programmers often rely on visual cues (e.g., syntax coloring, keyword highlighting, code formatting) to perform common coding activities in text-based languages (e.g., Python). Unfortunately, blind and low-vision (BLV) programmers hardly beneft from these visual cues because they interact with computers via assistive technologies (e.g., screen readers), which fail to communicate visual semantics meaningfully. Prior work on making text-based programming languages and environments accessible mostly focused on code navigation and, to some extent, code debugging, but not much toward code editing, which is an essential coding activity. We present Grid-Coding to fll this gap. Grid-Coding renders source code in a structured 2D grid, where each row, column, and cell have consistent, meaningful semantics. Its design is grounded on prior work and refned by 28 BLV programmers through online participatory sessions for 2 months. We implemented the Grid-Coding prototype as a spreadsheet-like web application for Python and evaluated it with a study with 12 BLV programmers. This study revealed that, compared to a text editor (i.e., the go-to editor for BLV programmers), our prototype enabled BLV programmers to navigate source code quickly, fnd the context of a statement easily, detect syntax errors in existing code efectively, and write new code with fewer syntax errors. The study also revealed how BLV programmers adopted Grid-Coding and demonstrated novel interaction patterns conducive to increased programming productivity.

All-flash array (AFA) has become one of the most popular storage forms in diverse computing domains. While traditional AFA implementations adopt the block interface to seamlessly integrate with most existing software, this interface hinders the host from managing SSD internal tasks explicitly, which results in both short endurance and poor performance. In comparison, ZNS AFA, such as RAIZN, adopts ZNS SSDs and exposes the ZNS interface to the users. This solution attempts to raise the level of responsibility for SSD management. Unfortunately, it faces severe compatibility issues as most upper-layer software only takes block I/O accesses for *** this work, we propose BIZA, a self-governing blockinterface ZNS AFA to proactively schedule I/O requests and SSD internal tasks via the ZNS interface while exposing the user-friendly block interface to upper-layer software. BIZA achieves both long endurance and high performance by exploiting the zone random write area (ZRWA) and internal parallelisms of ZNS SSDs. Specifically, to mitigate write amplification, BIZA proposes a ghost-cache-based algorithm to identify hot data and absorb their updates in the scarce ZRWA. BIZA also employs a novel guess-and-verify mechanism to detect the mappings between zones and I/O resources at a low cost. Thereafter, BIZA can serve write requests and internal tasks in parallel with our customized I/O scheduler for high throughput and low latency. The evaluation results show that BIZA can reduce write amplification by 42.7% while achieving 93.2% higher throughput and 62.8% lower tail latency, compared to the state-of-the-art AFA solutions. © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s). Visual effects and elements to visualize the perceptions of one's own virtual character (also referred to as Visual Delegates) are often used in video games, e.g., status bars visualize the character's sense of health, filters on the interface layer visualize the character's state of mind. It is still largely unexplored whether Visual Delegates can also be used to transfer the perception of non-player characters comprehensibly. Therefore, we developed a medical virtual reality scenario using five different types of Visual Delegates to visualize three different perceptions of a virtual non-player patient. We tested for character assignment in a qualitative user study (N = 20). Our results can be used to decide more effectively what types of Visual Delegates can be used to convey perceptions of non-player characters.

The intensification of urbanization has exacerbated traffic congestion issues, necessitating intelligent traffic light control system to optimize traffic flow. This study designs and implements an intelligent traffic light control system based on the STM32 microcontroller. The system dynamically responds to real-time traffic data, adjusting signal timing to alleviate traffic pressure. Through meticulous hardware design and C language programming, the system demonstrates efficient and stable performance. Field tests validate the system's outstanding performance in real-time data processing and dynamic timing adjustments, while also highlighting areas for improvement in data processing capability, energy-saving technology, and user interaction. The results indicate that this intelligent traffic light control system offers an efficient and reliable solution for urban traffic management, contributing to the development of intelligent transportation systems and the sustainable development of urban traffic. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s). Designers and makers are increasingly interested in leveraging bio-based and bio-degradable do-it-yourself' (DIY) materials for sustainable prototyping. Their self-produced bioplastics possess compelling properties such as self-adhesion but have so far not been functionalized to create soft interactive devices, due to a lack of DIY techniques for the fabrication of functional electronic circuits and sensors. In this paper, we contribute a DIY approach for creating Interactive Bioplastics that is accessible to a wide audience, making use of easy-to-obtain bio-based raw materials and familiar tools. We present three types of conductive bioplastic materials and their formulation: sheets, pastes and foams. Our materials enable additive and subtractive fabrication of soft circuits and sensors. Furthermore, we demonstrate how these materials can substitute conventional prototyping materials, be combined with off-the-shelf electronics, and be fed into a sustainable material life-cycle' including disassembly, re-use, and re-melting of materials. A formal characterization of our conductors highlights that they are even on-par with commercially available carbon-based conductive pastes. © 2022 acm.

Program synthesis has the potential to democratize programming by enabling non-programmers to write software. But conventional approaches to synthesis may fail if given insufficient information-a common occurrence when asking non-experts to describe the application they want to write. This paper introduces a new concept-based program synthesis mechanism that can cope with incomplete knowledge, targeting low-code model-driven languages. Concepts are modelled in an ontology that represents user intent, including basic actions (e.g. show, filter, and create) along with their associated data as well as basic user interface structures like screens or pages. Our synthesis framework consists of a system of derivation rules that supports deferred premises, which need not be immediately satisfied during synthesis. A derivation in which some deferred premises are missing will thus contain holes;semantically, it represents a proof that is conditional on the developer filling the holes with additional facts from the ontology. We translate derivations with holes to standard first-order logic derivations, where the holes are transformed into assumptions. We illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our framework with a proof-of-concept implementation and a set of illustrative examples.

Automated Graphical user interface (GUI) testing plays a crucial role in ensuring app quality, especially as mobile applications have become an integral part of our daily lives. Despite the growing popularity of learning-based techniques in automated GUI testing due to their ability to generate human-like interactions, they still suffer from several limitations, such as low testing coverage, inadequate generalization capabilities, and heavy reliance on training data. Inspired by the success of Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT in natural language understanding and question answering, we formulate the mobile GUI testing problem as a Q&A task. We propose GPTDroid, asking LLM to chat with the mobile apps by passing the GUI page information to LLM to elicit testing scripts, and executing them to keep passing the app feedback to LLM, iterating the whole process. Within this framework, we have also introduced a functionality-aware memory prompting mechanism that equips the LLM with the ability to retain testing knowledge of the whole process and conduct long-term, functionality-based reasoning to guide exploration. We evaluate it on 93 apps from Google Play and demonstrate that it outperforms the best baseline by 32% in activity coverage, and detects 31% more bugs at a faster rate. Moreover, GPTDroid identifies 53 new bugs on Google Play, of which 35 have been confirmed and fixed. © 2024 acm.

Graphical user interface (GUI) testing has been a significant topic in the software engineering community. Most existing GUI testing frameworks are intrusive and can only support some specific platforms, which are quite limited. With the development of dis-tinct scenarios, diverse embedded systems or customized operating systems on different devices do not support existing intrusive GUI testing frameworks. Some approaches adopt robotic arms to re-place the interface invoking of mobile apps under test and use computer vision technologies to identify GUI elements. However, some challenges remain unsolved with such approaches. First, existing approaches assume that GUI screens are fixed so that they cannot be adapted to diverse systems with different screen conditions. Second, existing approaches use XY-plane robotic arm system, which cannot flexibly simulate human testing operations. Third, existing approaches ignore the compatibility bugs of apps and only focus on the crash bugs. To sum up, a more practical approach is required for the non-intrusive scenario. In order to solve the remaining challenges, we propose a practi-cal non-intrusive GUI testing framework with visual-based robotic arms, namely ROBOTEST. ROBOTEST integrates a set of novel GUI screen and widget detection algorithm that is adaptive to detecting screens of different sizes and then to extracting GUI widgets from the detected screens. Then, a complete set of widely-used testing operations are applied with a 4-DOF robotic arm, which can more effectively and flexibly simulate human testing operations. During the app exploration, ROBOTEST integrates the specially designed Principle of Proximity-guided (PoP-guided) exploration strategy, which chooses close widgets of the previous operation targets to reduce the robotic arm movement overhead and improve exploration efficiency.
