A MATLAB toolbox is presented, with the goal of checking occurrences of design errors typically found in fixed-point digital systems, considering finite word-length effects. In particular, the present toolbox works as a front-end to a recently introduced verification tool, known as Digital-System Verifier (DSVerifier), and checks overflow, limit cycle, quantization, stability, and minimum phase errors in digital systems represented by transfer-function and state-space equations. It provides a command-line version with simplified access to specific functionality and a graphical-userinterface, which was developed as a MATLAB application. The resulting toolbox enables application of verification to real-world systems by control engineers.

The work presented in this paper, explored the enhancement of user Experience (UX) by introducing a novel gesture-based controller in a mobile multiplayer Virtual Reality (VR) game. Using only the smartphone's RGB camera, the image input was used for both gesture analysis, capable of understanding user actions, as well as segmenting the real hand that was illustrated in the Virtual Environment (VE). users were also able to share the VR space by cooperating in a survival-strategy scenario. The results from the user studies indicated that both the bare hand controller and the addition of another player in the VR scene, affected the experience for the participants. users had a stronger feeling of presence in the VE when participated with an other user, and the visual representation of their hand in the VR world made the interactions seem more natural. Even though, there is still a number of limitations, this project nodes this approach capable of offering a natural and engaging solution of VR interaction, capable of rich UX while maintaining a low entry level for the end users.

Knowledge workers consume and annotate digital documents such as PDF files, videos, images and text notes - in some cases collaboratively - to form mental models and gain insight. An abundance of software solutions and utilities that were designed to assist users in stages of this process but not in the process as a whole, which makes knowledge work with documents unnecessarily inefficient. In this paper, we introduce ideas on how to streamline common knowledge worker tasks, such as collaboratively searching, gathering and freely arranging fragments of various media documents to gain understanding and then transforming emergent insights into interactive structured visualizations. Furthermore, we present NuSys, an integrated development environment (IDE) specialized for document-centric work flows, that implements the core of these ideas.

This demo presents a virtual environment for assembling archaeological artefacts from 3D scanned fragments. We have implemented a set of interaction techniques tailored to this specific task, allowing users to examine, manipulate and assemble fragments to obtain the original shape of the object. The tool is developed and continuously tested by domain experts from the field of anthropology. The presented pilot user study confirms our initial expectation that the restoration process using a virtual environments can be significantly faster than restoration done in a desktop environment keeping the same level of assembly precision.

Today's model for computer interaction, one built around the coordinated use of mouse, keyboard, and graphical display, has been optimized for visual interaction since its inception nearly forty years ago. The transition from the textual interfaces of early desktop computing to the graphical userinterface brought with it new challenges of access for individuals with a range of visual impairments[3]. Although researchers within HCI and beyond have introduced a multitude of answers to these challenges [8, 19], few have found their way into everyday use by the visually impaired community [30, 6, 7]. Ubicomp offers particularly compelling options for additional modalities that can better assist users with visual impairments.

With the omnipresence of mobile devices coupled with recent advances in automatic speech recognition capabilities, there has been a growing demand for natural language query (NLQ) interface to retrieve information from the knowledge bases. Business users particularly find this useful as NLQ interface enables them to ask questions without the knowledge of the query language or the data schema. In this paper, we apply an existing research technology called "ATHENA: An Ontology-Driven System for Natural Language Querying over Relational Data Stores" in the industry domain of SAP-ERP systems. The goal is to enable users to query SAP-ERP data using natural language. We present the challenges and their solutions of such a technology transfer. We present the effectiveness of the natural language query interface on a set of questions given by a set of SAP practitioners.

A multi-user experience extending a standard TV content with AR elements is presented. It runs with both a standard tablet and a premium MR headset, the Microsoft HoloLens. A virtual TV mosaic is displayed around the TV screen and used as a GUI to control both TV and MR content. This paper focuses on the collaborative and personalized dimension offered by the experience. Unlike most AR applications, it can be simultaneously run by several users using different devices. The users can share content with others while keeping a personalized display. The added-value of such an extended TV experience has been demonstrated through complementary types of content, and user feedback confirms a real interest in this new kind of home entertainment, at the same time immersive, interactive, collaborative and personalized.

Virtual Reality (VR) has numerous mechanisms for making a virtual scene more compellingly real. Most effort has been focused on visual and auditory techniques for immersive environments, although some commercial systems now include relatively crude haptic effects through handheld controllers or haptic suits. We present results from a pilot experiment demonstrating the use of Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) to trick participants into thinking a surface is dangerously hot even though it is below 50 degrees C. This is accomplished by inducing an artificial heat withdrawal reflex by contracting the participant's bicep shortly after contact with the virtual hot surface. Although the effects of multiple experimental confounds need to be quantified in future work, results so far suggest that EMS could potentially be used to modify temperature perception in VR and AR contexts. Such an illusion has applications for VR gaming as well as emergency response and workplace training and simulation, in addition to providing new insights into the human perceptual system.

Virtual pet games, such as handheld games like Tamagotchi or video games like Petz, provide players with artificial pet companions or entertaining pet-raising simulations. Prior research has found that virtual pets have the potential to promote learning, collaboration, and empathy among users. While virtual reality (VR) has become an increasingly popular game medium, little is known about users' expectations regarding game avatars, gameplay, and environments for VR-enabled pet games. We surveyed 780 respondents in an online survey and interviewed 30 participants to understand users' motivation, preferences, and game behavior in pet games played on various medium, and their expectations for VR pet games. Based on our findings, we generated three user types that reflect users' preferences and gameplay styles in VR pet games. We use these types to highlight key design opportunities and recommendations for VR pet games.
