The concept of a user interface includes the complex of command languages, operations, design principles, and standards associated with the increasingly important and wide-spread use of interactive systems. Technological innovations, mostly in hardware but some in software, have been the driving forces. These include: time-sharing, workstations with bitmap graphics, graphic input devices, efficient multiprocessing, and multimegabyte memories for personal computers. techniques of interaction followed, with operating systems that support user interaction, menus and icons, window systems, graphic interaction techniques such as snap-dragging, and integrated systems where all interactive applications share certain universal operations. interactivegraphics-based computer programs have been developed for simulating major aspects of the electronics circuits laboratory including the support equipment, test instruments, and measuring procedures. The graphically generated test instruments instruments mimic real-world devices in both appearance and operation while reflecting the principles involved in the measurement of physical quantities. A graphically generated circuit construction breadboard is available for component connection and provides familiarization with component labeling and circuit hookup. Circuit component layout on the simulated breadboard is not limited to a given orientation or configuration. The 'smart' features of the board cause the correct voltages to appear at the nodes for measurement and display by the graphically generated instruments. The simulation techniques permit randomizing of component values within specified tolerance limits and provide for voltage and current measurements over a wide range of circuit operating temperatures.< >

We present a technique for modeling global illumination which allows a wide variety of reflectance functions. Scene coherence is exploited in a preprocessing step in which the geometry is analyzed using iterative techniques. Memory is traded for speed, in anticipation of the high memory capacities of workstations of the future. The algorithm operates well over a wide range of time and image quality constraints: realistic results may be produced very quickly while very accurate results require more time and space. The method can be extended for animation and parallelization.
