Eye movements could provide information on a person's cognitive context. Previous works showed that human visual recognition processes could be detected via electrooculography (EOG) data and revealed top-ranked eye movement features for detection. However, they lack analysis on how eye movements differ when viewing recognised (familiar) and unrecognised (unfamiliar) images. EOG methods are less prevalent and have limited scalability for detecting other cognitive processes. Our study with 34 participants showed that saccade count and fixation count decreased while the mean and variance of fixation duration increased with image familiarity. We discuss the differences in eye movements when seeing images of different categories and lessons learnt for our next steps to enable implicit interactions using wearable camera-based eye trackers. © 2023 Owner/Author.

Reflecting the operational status of the engine, the determination of rotator speed is crucial, directly impacting the engine's control precision. In response to the engine speed measurement requirements, a system architecture and hardware design scheme of frequency acquisition circuit were proposed in this study, followed by an overall simulation using Saber software. In accordance with the technical requirements, an analysis and calculation of the transfer function of the band-pass filter network and the hysteresis threshold were conducted. By adjusting the RC parameters of the low-pass filter and incorporating a reference voltage to reduce the hysteresis threshold, the theoretical ideal design results were achieved. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

Context: SBSI ties together the Brazilian Information systems community since 2004, 20 years ago. Through their research, the community has matured, grown and established, through authorships, institutions, research interests, and collaborations. Problem: complexity, diversity and plurality grew as the SBSI, and IS community, grew and spread;presenting self-monitoring challenges. There are few meta-scientific studies covering collaborations and quantitative studies, in different dimensions. Solution: we conducted a comprehensive and complete study, analyzing several SBSI aspects, with a materialistic emphasis on authorship (3595) and studies (1052), covering all 19 years of the event. IS Theory: Argumentative theory, Critical social theory. Method: we conducted a descriptive-analytical study, similar to a scope review. We use quantitative analyzes and Social Network analysis techniques, prioritizing a temporal perspective, exposing the evolution of phenomena. We deal with different dimensions and interrelate the appropriate or plausible ones. Summarization of Results: this work reiterates or enriches the findings of previous works. Reinforces a low number of female authors, while several of the most prolific authors are women. As institutions, USP, UNIRIO, UFPE, UFRJ and UNISINOS stand out. The Southeast region, Rio Grande do Sul and Pernambuco stands out. Collaborations and authorship numbers differs. Brazilian Portuguese predominates as the main language, except in 2021, an outlier. The keywords are reflect an emphasis on information systems. Contributions and Impacts on the IS area: we present a multidimensional Brazilian IS panorama understanding, for better meta-scientific and organizational decision-making. It serves as input and complement to think about Brazilian IS challenges, current and future.

With the broader adoption of virtual reality (VR), objective physiological measurements to automatically assess a user's emotional state are gaining importance. Emotions affect human behavior, perception, cognition, and decision-making. Their recognition allows analysis of VR experiences and enables systems to react to and interact with a user's emotions. Facial expressions are one of the most potent and natural signals to recognize emotions. Automatic facial expression recognition (FER) typically relies on facial images. However, users wear head-mounted displays (HMDs) in immersive VR environments, which occlude almost the entire upper half of the face. That severely limits the capabilities of conventional FER methods. We address this emerging challenge with our systematic literature review. To our knowledge, it is the first review on FER in immersive VR scenarios where HMDs partially occlude a user's face. We identified 256 related works and included 21 for detailed analysis. Our review provides a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art and draws conclusions for future research.

Assurance of evolving large cyber-physical systems (CPS) is time-consuming, and usually a bottleneck for deploying them with confidence. Several factors contribute to this problem, including the lack of effective reuse of assurance results, the difficulty to integrate multiple analyses for multiple subsystems, and the lack of explicit consideration of the different levels of trust that different analyses provide. In this paper, we present an approach to assure large CPS that aims to overcome these barriers.

This work develops a distributed graph neural network (GNN) methodology for mesh-based modeling applications using a consistent neural message passing layer. As the name implies, the focus is on enabling scalable operations that satisfy physical consistency via halo nodes at sub-graph boundaries. Here, consistency refers to the fact that a GNN trained and evaluated on one rank (one large graph) is arithmetically equivalent to evaluations on multiple ranks (a partitioned graph). This concept is demonstrated by interfacing GNNs with NekRS, a GPU-capable exascale CFD solver developed at Argonne National Laboratory. It is shown how the NekRS mesh partitioning can be linked to the distributed GNN training and inference routines, resulting in a scalable mesh-based data-driven modeling workflow. We study the impact of consistency on the scalability of mesh-based GNNs, demonstrating efficient scaling in consistent GNNs for up to O(1B) graph nodes on the Frontier exascale supercomputer. © 2024 IEEE.

The First 5G-LTE Comparative Study in Extreme Mobility

5G claims to support mobility up to 500 km/h according to the 3GPP standard. However, its field performance under high-speed scenes remains in mystery. In this paper, we conduct the first large-scale measurement campaign on a high-speed railway route operating at the maximum speed of 350 km/h, with full coverage of LTE and 5G (NSA and SA) along the track. Our study consumed 1788.8 GiB of cellular data in six months, covering the three major carriers in China and the recent standardized QUIC protocol. Based on our dataset, we reveal the key characteristics of 5G and LTE in extreme mobility in terms of throughput, RTT, loss rate, signal quality, and physical resource utilization. We further develop a taxonomy of handovers in both LTE and 5G and carry out the link-layer latency breakdown analysis. Our study pinpoints the deficiencies in the user equipment, radio access network, and core network which hinder seamless connectivity and better utilization of 5G's high bandwidth. Our findings highlight the directions of the next step in the 5G evolution. © 2022 acm.

Mainstream media, through their decisions on what to cover and how to frame the stories they cover, can mislead readers without using outright falsehoods. Therefore, it is crucial to have tools that expose these editorial choices underlying media bias. In this paper, we introduce the Media Bias Detector, a tool for researchers, journalists, and news consumers. By integrating large language models, we provide near real-time granular insights into the topics, tone, political lean, and facts of news articles aggregated to the publisher level. We assessed the tool's impact by interviewing 13 experts from journalism, communications, and political science, revealing key insights into usability and functionality, practical applications, and AI's role in powering media bias tools. We explored this in more depth with a follow-up survey of 150 news consumers. This work highlights opportunities for AI-driven tools that empower users to critically engage with media content, particularly in politically charged environments. © 2025 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

The increasing use of camera streams on mobile systems has raised significant privacy concerns due to unauthorized visual data access by applications. Existing solutions either burden users with excessive interaction or lack semantic understanding of contextual privacy norms. This paper introduces PrivacyAgent, a novel visual privacy protection framework leveraging multimodal large language models (LLMs) to enable context-aware and fine-grained privacy control on mobile systems. PrivacyAgent intercepts camera streams via a virtualized I/O layer and restricts untrusted apps to privacy-compliant content with minimal user overhead.

Accurate data acquisition plays a pivotal role during the execution of diverse maintenance, monitoring, and testing tasks involving switchgear equipment. This significance is particularly pronounced when dealing with extended site maintenance periods or conducting routine assessments of equipment health. In such scenarios, potential challenges arising from limitations in measurement instruments, human oversight, and shift scheduling for supervisors can introduce errors into the process of capturing data. This paper presents a methodology to identify the erroneous data and process for correction of acquired data. Further the GUI based Application is created for user friendly interface, wide accessibility, and cross platform compatibility. © 2023 IEEE.
