distributed constraint optimization is very important for solving asynchronous distributed search problems in the multi-agent field. Various methods have been proposed for solving distributed constraint optimization problems, and among these, Asynchronous distributed OPTimization (ADOPT) has proven to be very effective. ADOPT is able to find solutions that optimize the total cost, but depending on the distribution of solutions for the problem in question, loads can tend to localize. When handling practical problems, solutions that take local load into consideration may be required. If this type of load concentration can be resolved, it should be possible to apply this approach to various resource allocation problems such as frequency allocation or sensor network allocation. In this paper, we propose a method that improves on ADOPT by taking distribution of local loads into consideration, making it applicable to these sorts of practical problems. We also verify the effectiveness of this new method by performing simulation experiments using the frequency allocation problem.

Cloud computing and other computing paradigms share the similar visions which aim to implement parallel computations on large distributed resources. However, this cloud computing is more involved in purchasing and consuming manners between providers and users than others. So how to allocate resources reasonably to cater requirements from both sides attracts wide attentions. Based on game theory, we introduce a new Bayesian Nash Equilibrium Allocation algorithm to solve resource management problem in cloud computing. This algorithm fully considers several criteria such as the heterogeneous distribution of resources, rational exchange behaviors of cloud users, incomplete common information and dynamic successive allocation. Compared to former researches, experimental results presented in this paper show that even though rivals' information is uncertain, cloud users can receive Nash equilibrium allocation solutions by gambling stage by stage. Furthermore, the resource price evaluated by the algorithm will converge to the optimal price at the end of the gambling sequence.

Recent advances in mobile computing and distributed multimedia systems allow mobile hosts (clients) to access wireless multimedia systems anywhere at anytime, but not without creating a new set of issues and trade-offs. To the best of our knowledge, there has been very little research done to deal with the synchronization problem in wireless and mobile multimedia systems. In this paper, we propose an efficient distributed synchronization algorithm for wireless and mobile multimedia systems to ensure and facilitate mobile clients' access of multimedia objects. We describe our synchronization scheme, which we refer to as MoSync, its implementation, and report on the performance results that we have obtained using a discrete event simulation testbed we have developed. Our results indicate clearly that our synchronization scheme is a viable approach to a wireless multimedia environment.

This paper presents the new approach to parallel calculations with the use of mixed formats. Usually parallel computations are done in multibit Pulse Code Modulation (PCM). Using this format requires doing multibit multiplications what often decreases the speed of calculations. Mixed formats, which join differential modulation codes such as Delta Modulation (DM) with PCM, can lead to the decrease of code word length and speed-up operation in DSP (Digital Signal Processing). Some kinds of DM such as MDPCM-PCM (Modified Differential Pulse Code Modulation) and SDPCM-PCM (Synthetic DPCM) enable to replace the time-consuming multiplications with fast shift operations. The purpose of this work is working out the new processing methods for the fast-acting increase of DSP algorithms on the basis of parallel computations in mixed formats, especially with the use of MDPCM-PCM and SDPCM-PCM formats.

Ubiquitous computing paradigm involves handling physical spaces having abundance of computing devices, with variety of resources, capabilities, services and policies. The physical and logical work environment created with ubiquitous computing characteristics can be termed as smart space. It will assist user in performing his tasks without bothering about intricacies of handling or configuring the devices and applications programs. Such tasks of configuring are handled unobtrusively by the smart space itself. Most of the design efforts for smart space have been centred on development of new middleware for creation of the ubiquitous environment. This paper presents an operating system based design of a software infrastructure for a campus-wide smart space. A mapping of the proposed design to a use-case scenario is also presented.

Although a number of risk management processes and guidelines have been developed, many IT projects still fail due to inadequate management of project risks. In fact, risk management is an emerging practice to be applied in managing IT projects, and very few studies have been conducted to transfer it into industrial practices. In this paper, some weaknesses are identified in the available tools and techniques that affect the effective use of risk management practices. Two new practices and an implementation model are proposed to address these weaknesses.
