Power diode is a special type of semiconductor device mainly used in circuit rectification When the diode fails, it will have an adverse effect on the power system. The study of power diode fault prediction is essential to improve the reliability of power systems. By analysing the failure mode and aging characteristics of power diodes, the forward voltage drop can be considered as a characteristic parameter of diode aging. A platform for thermal cycle aging of power diodes is designed. The platform supports thermal cycling control and parameter acquisition, the former can control the cycle times and aging temperature, and the latter can obtain the forward voltage drop during diode aging process. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

The sensational outcomes of machine learning (ML) are witnessed. As the big success relies on continual training with massive data encompassing sensitive information, deep neural network (DNN) models easily leak private information. For instance, large pre-trained language models contain a substantial volume of private information, which can be acquired by querying with appropriate prompts. This raises concerns regarding privacy in ML, and DNN models are evolving for privacy-preserving ML (PPML).

HVDC systems that interconnect large generation and load centres are expected to facilitate the massive expansion of offshore wind energy. These HVDC systems combine vendor-specific technical designs and operation concepts. The successful operation of these HVDC systems requires well-defined functional specifications and test procedures for all the components of the protection system. To validate the performance of DC protection relays, a test bench for DC relays is necessary. However, existing requirements for DC relay tests are unclear, and no standardized procedures exist to validate the functionality of HVDC protection. Currently, real-time simulation is the most advanced testing method available, but it has accuracy limitations for high bandwidth testing, and its practicality and cost-effectiveness can vary based on the application. This paper presents a novel design of a DC protection relay test bench and discusses key considerations and hardware specifications for a suitable test bench. The presented test bench meets future testing requirements and includes high sample rates, accurate models, and necessary automation controls. Finally, several case studies are presented to demonstrate the practical implementations and test limitations of the test bench. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

In this paper, a garment pressure test device is designed through the study of garment pressure test device and method. It mainly introduces the hardware equipment FlexiForce sensors, analog circuit converters, power adapters, and data acquisition cards to build the test device, and the system for measuring garment pressure values is programmed through the graphical programming language Lab VIEW development tool, which mainly contains the functions of data acquisition, storage, analysis and processing, and display, and the device is calibrated for testing the The device was calibrated to test the pressure of garments worn on different parts of the human body. By testing the pressure value of elastic fabric products worn by the human body, the test site is selected as the minimum circumference of the ankle, the gastrocnemius muscle stop, the maximum circumference of the calf and the lower end of the tibial tuberosity of four transverse test lines, each of the four transverse test lines is divided into eight equal parts, a total of 32 test points, the test verifies the actual testing effect of the garment pressure testing device, and finds that the device is accurate and stable, and can be used for the study of the pressure comfort of the garment and the later design and production of the device. It is found that the device is accurate and stable, and can be used as a reference for studying the comfort of the pressure and the later design and production of garments. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

Sample preparation, where a certain number of reagents must be mixed in a specific volumetric ratio, is an integral step for various bio-assays. A programmable microfluidic device (PMD) is an advanced flow-based microfluidic biochip (FMB) platform, that considered to be very effective for sample preparation. However, the impact of mixer placement, reagents' distribution, and mixing time on the automation of sample preparation has not yet been investigated. We consider a mixing efficiency model controlled by the number of alternations “μ” of reagents along the mixing circulation path and propose a loading-aware placement strategy that maximizes the mixing efficiency. We use satisfiability modulo theories (SMT) and propose a one-pass strategy for placing the mixers and the reagents, that successfully enhance the loading and mixing efficiencies.

Helicopters are widely used in the field of general aviation due to their excellent low altitude performance. As a key capability of helicopter flight performance, ground maneuver flight is an important subject in helicopter flight testing. In order to ensure the safety and controllability of helicopters during ground maneuver flight tests, it is necessary to monitor some key parameters during helicopter flight in real-time. In response to the testing requirements for close range measurement of rotor and tail rotor, real-time monitoring and warning of aircraft near ground altitude during helicopter flight tests, key technologies such as matrix laser ranging technology and platform control algorithm were studied to determine the design scheme of key testing technologies for helicopter near ground flight. Based on this, the helicopter near ground flight safety monitoring and warning system developed has achieved helicopter near ground flight safety monitoring, which has important reference significance for the design of future helicopter flight test systems. © The Institution of Engineering & Technology 2024.

Typhoon is a common natural disaster in coastal areas of China, which is characterized by high speed and strong destructive power. For the analysis of wind turbine under typhoon condition, it is necessary to measure and survey the wind load characteristics during typhoon passing by. Based on this, a reliable automatic unmanned wind measurement system was designed, and the typhoon Muifa was measured during the whole process with the system. The test results verified the feasibility of the wind measurement system, the results showed that: (1) Under the influence of typhoon movement and Coriolis force, the horizontal angle at the measurement point changed significantly, and there was a averaged vertical angle of about 9.1°;(2) The cross-wind turbulence is more significant, the turbulence intensity was the largest, and the integral scale of the turbulent vortex was small;(3) The probability density function of fluctuating wind speed obeyed the Gaussian distribution law, and in the high frequency range above 1 Hz, the spectral density energy of typhoon was larger than that of benign wind, and appropriate correction should be made when von Karman was used for simulation. The research methods and conclusions can provide reference for typhoon simulation and safety analysis of nearshore wind farms. © 2024 SPIE.

the windshield wiper is installed on the front glass of the locomotive-driver's cell to sweep away the rain, snow and dust, which block the view. At present, there is no special test equipment for locomotive wiper in the market, and the relevant regulations of locomotive overhaul can not be implemented. Maintenance cost increased and time long are the limited factors which can not meet locomotive depot development. Maintenance requirements of the wiper must meet the rated work pressure detection, speed wiper frequency, high and low speed difference, intermittent time, wiper angle. The device automatically controls the wiper, collects the signal of the photoelectric switch, and switches the swing direction of the wiper automatically, which achieved the accurate measurement and calculation of rotation angle and rotation speed. the test results can be automatically determined and the maintenance records are automatically generated. It can effectively improve the efficiency of operations, reduce maintenance costs and ensure the quality of maintenance. © 2023 IEEE.
